The Aggressive Premium Transfer Strategy (TAPTS)

I want to start the article on this strategy by saying I am not a new player to Fantasy Premier League, but I am always looking for a new tactic, something else to spice up the season.

My best OR was 15,133 in 2013/14 but since then I haven’t really enjoyed it. I’ve been too stressed out in the first 10 weeks by the pressures of not being able to have all of the good players and not instantly being in the top 20K that I’d quit by Xmas, leaving my sad, hit ridden team to meander towards the finish line through a forest of red arrows.

Last season was really bad (I was so furious when any player I didn’t have scored points that I took out a 20+ point hit rage on two occasions) and I changed my strategy almost daily to the point of obsession that I swore I wouldn’t play again this season.

Yet here we are.

When the abundance of premium midfielders was announced I quickly set up a draft that included the most expensive midfield ever assembled. But, I soon realised that I couldn’t have all of these players – not just because my squad needed balance, but because it needed 15 players in it. But, I knew that I’d curse (and likely rage transfer) when a premium midfielder scored highly in a game and a thought popped into my head, what if I could have all the premium midfielders and at the same time not beat myself up because I was sticking to a strategy?

So, I devised The Aggressive Premium Transfer Strategy – TAPTS. It’s a strategy that uses fixture judgement more than stats and form, but you could apply stats and form to it (and probably be more successful than I will be). I just prefer to play the game based on my own eye test and targeting weak teams, but TAPTS is so flexible, you can play it in lots of ways.

Firstly, a warning. THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. It goes against most of the FPL principles that many teach and learn from this very website and others like it. However, it COULD be very rewarding and you have an excellent get-out clause at any time with the Wildcard. My game plan is not to use the Wildcard until GW 16 to set me up for the blank/DGW of GW18/19 but it’s a great option to have up my sleeve.

The tactic is designed to maximise the scoring I get from my premium midfielders ONLY, rather than any marginal gains from lower-valued players. To do that, I am going to pick the best two premium midfielders based on their fixtures that week and make sure I have them both by only using my free transfer to move a premium midfielder in and out, with no exceptions. It also means I won’t have to take any hits to get them in.

To set up a solid base for this you need to select 13 players and keep £25.0m in the bank – this covers any 2 midfielders with £1.0m ITB for any price changes. These 13 players should almost all be nailed on starters for their team and provide a steady flow of points. I have divided up the money as follows:

2 GK – £8.5m

5 DF – £27.5M

3 MF – £22M (With 2 free spaces)

3 ST – £17M

Leftover – £25M

But, you can spread the money however you like across the positions where ever you see good value. Just make sure your selections WILL start and provide a steady flow of points. The cheapest guaranteed value starter in each position is a good place to start – I’ve gone with Luke Ayling (£4.5m), Tomas Soucek (£5.0m) & Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.0m) as they’ll start every week. I’ve also got a Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) double up at the back as I thought they’d give me more value than any other £7.5m/£7.0m player. Then, I favour Chris Wood up front as the best long term value £6.5m striker, but again, you can choose whoever you want.

Out of the 13, one player can be bench fodder but try and have at least one of your bench players, if not two, as a regular starter who can get some points in case of injuries and suspensions so you don’t have to take a hit. My bench currently has one player that will play – a £5.5m midfielder (who I can rotate in and out of my squad), one that could play – a £4.0m defender and one that probably won’t play – a £4.5m striker (If Rhian Brewster goes on loan to a Prem club then he is an excellent option here, but I want to save my last Liverpool space for Mohamed Salah (£12.0m) or Sadio Mane (£12.0m)). The point is to have cover to save you taking a hit for a 1/2 week absence. Longer absences may require you to take a hit, but hopefully, you won’t need to. I’m also set up to play 4-4-2 so that if a defender doesn’t play my midfielder can come in.

In the 13, choose one premium player that you’d like to lock into your side for the whole season, for me it’s Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), but maybe you’re Team Fernandes or Team Salah or Team Werner – Strikers aren’t included in this rotation, so if you really want a striker, get them in the 13.

Make sure you choose these 13 players wisely as they are locked into your team FOREVER (Well, until you bottle it and play your Wildcard in week 2).

Now, the fun part: I have identified the teams with premium midfielders that I believe will get me the most points throughout the season – the beauty of this is that you can add or remove teams to suit your personal preference, but for me currently it’s: Arsenal (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang), Liverpool (Salah, Mane), Manchester City (KDB, Raheem Sterling), Manchester United (Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford), Chelsea (Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz?). These teams for me have the midfielders who have the potential to score big points in a single game week.

Then, I went through the fixtures up until GW16 (the wildcard deadline) and identified which two of these teams had the most favourable fixtures in those weeks – For this, I mostly targeted sides lower down in the division that I personally think are going to be poor this season. This can and probably will evolve as the season goes on but for now, the teams I’m targeting are; Brighton, Aston Villa, Fulham, WBA, West Ham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace. With that in mind, the list of most favourable fixtures for me to target are:

GW 1 – ARSENAL (Ful A) / CHELSEA (Bri A)

GW 2 – ARSENAL (Wha H) / MAN U (Cry H)

GW 3 – MAN U (Bri A) / CHELSEA (Wba A)

GW 4 – LIVERPOOL (Avi A) / CHELSEA (Cry H)

GW 5 – CHELSEA (Sou H) / MAN U (New A)

GW 6 – MAN CITY (Wha A)*

GW 7 – LIVERPOOL (Wha H)*

GW 8 – ARSENAL (Avi H)*

GW 9 – MAN U (WBA H) / CHELSEA (New A)

GW 10 – LIVERPOOL (Bri A) / MAN CITY (Bur H)**

GW 11 – MAN CITY (Ful H) / MAN U (Wha A)

GW 12 – LIVERPOOL (Ful A)*

GW 13 – MAN CITY (Wba H)*

GW 14 – LIVERPOOL (Cry A) / CHELSEA (Wha H)

GW 15 – LIVERPOOL (Wba H) / MAN CITY (New H)

*Only one I’m really keen on identified

**Burnley’s normally excellent defence included here as historically City have hammered them.

Then, I worked out a transfer strategy of which premium midfielder to keep and which to transfer out in these game weeks – I’ve included one player from a team in each one, but it can easily be any premium midfielder from that team (i.e Pulisic could be Ziyech or Havertz). It might be crazy to say 2 weeks before the season starts but, these will be my transfers:

GW 1 – Start with Aubameyang and Ziyech

GW 2 – Transfer Ziyech to Rashford (still got Aubameyang)

GW 3 – Transfer Aubameyang to Pulisic (still got Rashford)

GW 4 – Transfer Rashford to Salah (still got Pulisic)

GW 5 – Transfer Salah to Fernandes (still got Pulisic)

GW 6 – Transfer Pulisic to Sterling (Still got Fernandes)

GW 7 – Transfer Sterling to Mane (still got Fernandes)

GW 8 – Transfer Mane to Aubameyang (still got Fernandes)

GW 9 – Transfer Aubameyang to Sterling (Still got Fernandes)

GW 10 – Transfer Fernandes to Salah (still got Sterling)

GW 11 – Transfer Salah to Rashford (still got Sterling)

GW 12 – Transfer Rashford to Mane (still got Sterling)

GW 13 – Either Keep Mane and Sterling or swap one for another Liv/Man C players***

GW 14 – Transfer Sterling to Pulisic (still got Salah)

GW 15 – Transfer Pulisic to Sterling (still got Salah)

***If you don’t use this to swap premium midfielders use the transfer on your other 13 players if you need to.

You can see that I do keep some premium midfielders for a run of 3/4 weeks some times, so make sure you choose the one you think will do best for all of those fixtures.

Selecting which midfielder from the team (e.g. Salah or Mane) will come in the week of the transfer still gives me choice and allows me to look at stats or form if I want. It also means I can move between players like Salah and Mane if I wanted to if one was horribly out of form.

If, at some stage, the original premium midfielder in the 13 that you chose is doing terribly and you want to keep one player that you’ve originally planned to transfer out, you do have the flexibility to swap them at any point. So, if KDB is out of form or injured for GW5, I can keep Salah in my team instead and transfer KDB out.

Now, this obviously relies on avoiding injuries and suspensions to your original 13 players, but if you have enough cover on your bench it could be very profitable. It might be that you want to Wildcard early so you know the cheaper players who are nailed on starters and offer good value, then employing this tactic. This could be something I do in the first few weeks if too many of my 13 players aren’t regulars, as I’ve said before do whatever works best for you.

If you want to TAPTS please do and do it your way, use stats, add more players (Son could feel aggrieved to have missed out on mine, but I’ve been let down way too many times by him), use other fixtures, target other teams (I didn’t target Leeds as I’m a Leeds fan and have an unwavering belief that we’ll be excellent this year).

Remember the point of this is to have all of the premium midfielders positively affect your season so you can enjoy each and every one of them, knowing that even if they score big and you don’t have them, you’ll have them in soon. No regrets.

That’s it for this year, I’m all set. Well, until I come up with an even better strategy tomorrow.

Love some different thinking and different strategies!

I wonder if this relights the old form vs fixtures debate - whilst fixtures act as a multiplier to premium player's scores, should it be valued higher than form? You mention that you can adapt your transfers based on form, I just wonder where I personally would draw that line.

Really interesting idea though! Looking forward to seeing how it plays out, don't think I'm brave enough to try myself!

Thanks! It definitely has potential for big rewards, but it could also lead to a few low point weeks. I always have the wildcard to get out if needs be.....

Highlighting premium teams against supposedly weaker opponents is great. Planning 16 weeks of transfers is pointless.

He could save a lot of the transfers just by keeping Sterling as his set-and-forget premium if that's who he prefers to captain from Man City. Recognizing that some transfers will be needed elsewhere just to deal with injuries and such.

I think I'm having KDB, so Sterling will be a double up on the Man City games. Having KDB and TAA allows for a Man City or Liv captain if I'd rather captain them one week I don't have other premiums. I'm also toying with losing Robertson and having Werner so I can double up Chelsea on their good fixtures....

I see it more as planning 16 weeks of potential transfers - there's flexibility in the system to change it up. It might be come GW15 that it didn't go exactly as stated....

Well, isn't this basically upside chasing with premium mids or so called hokey pokey? Lateriser (and I) for example ditched KdB in and out of his team many times last season. Taking a hit when needed or big enough upside is seen elsewhere could and should be added imo. The only real rule needed is to have no other rules 🙂

This is exactly what I thought when reading this article.
I will be doing a little bit of upside chasing on the high value players but nothing close to the extent of TAPTS. I prefer a more balanced approach between planned transfers and flexibility (to allow slack for unexpected player unavailability).

Interesting. I’m doing something similar except I use a flexible formation so that I can transfer in any D/M/F at any price point to target specific weak clubs. This year’s main victim will be FUL I suspect. GL.

Thanks for a good read. Im a little tired of looking at 50 shades of template-teams. My experience is that everytime lm thinking about long term-planning, short-term problems needs to be fixed. So mostly interesting in theory.

I agree. It’s suppose to be fun. Seems to me that there is so much overthinking and seriousity about minor details now. And almost everyone have the same 7-8 players. Nice to read som alternative thinking.

I’m planning something similar with a set 4-4-2 formation big starters Salah Auba and Werner and will move those places to KDB, Bruno and Martial depending on fixtures. First transfer week 2 Salah to Bruno.

Only downside is it rules out a good third mid but there is plenty of value in defence and cheaper strikers this year I think.

I agree there could be good value in defence and cheap strikers (I'm tempted by a Leeds defence triple up, but am worried that could be a little extreme) - a limitation with this strategy from GW1 is identifying where the value is before the season starts. I think I have, but if I'm completely wrong I always have the Wildcard

Nice article, but I do disagree that we shouldn't target Leeds.

This article that Lateriser linked on his Twitter argued that we absolutely should target teams like Leeds because they always play attacking football even against the biggest clubs -- which is more important for captain choice than simply having a bad defence:

    https://jumpersforgoalposts.info/2020/09/02/captain-picks/

I do think Leeds will be a decent team, but I think the opponent's style deserves more consideration when deciding which opponents to captain players against.

Ah that is a good article. I guess my thoughts are there are different types of attacking football and Leeds have been a bit more pragmatic in their second season under Bielsa. Doesn't mean we won't get tonked 5-0 every now and then...

Ah this is great! Definitely much simpler, as it omits Chelsea and focuses on just 4 players plus they've classed Leeds as a lower table side (which they might be, but I hope they're not!) - but really interesting, thank you

Just to clarify, simpler doesn't have to mean a good thing in this context. Maybe ignoring Chelsea could be a bad thing and your approach could score a lot more.

Also yes they have, but I think it's more to do with the fact that the author tried to target mostly non top six, rather than differentiate by targeting the worst defences like you have, which again might be the better approach.

In fact, I'm thinking of going with a hybrid of your approach and the link that I posted. Doing it with 0.5m in the bank, so slightly worried. But let's see.

  12. Tarby

A lot of sense in this I think
Looking at last season some of the premium players did much better against the lesser sides in PPG:
    Salah 7.4 vs 4.9
    Mane 7.5 vs 3.8
    Vardy 6.7 vs 4.8
    Auba 6.7 vs 3.1
    Son 6.2 vs 4.2
Although for some it made little difference!
    KDB 6.9 vs 7.7
    Sterling 6.1 vs 6.3
    Fernandes 8.4 vs 8.3

So it makes sense for the captain pick for sure and having 1 premium player against weaker opponents.

The points difference is also the same for cheaper players though, so it's important to have as few as possible against top oppo, so I'd say captain needs to be against weak oppo, but ideally as many of your 11 are as well so might be better to use transfers elsewhere sometimes rather than being so rigid

    1. Jimbuck2FPL

It's made me add to my thinking to avoid many double ups of same team. For keeper & defenders and midfielders & forwards that is, what's a weak game for a defender might be prime for an attacker like against Arsenal for much of last season!

So the combo's like Traore and Jimenez that was common last season might be something to avoid. Traore and Ings would have given the fixture flexibility. That's all unless there is good long run coming up, like Spurs to start with and Son and Kane look like a good double act to me!

Good article and well thought out. But is that not what people do anyway - roughly in 4-5 gw blocks?

My team has no liverpool gameweek 1 for instance.
    I roughly plan

Transfer Aubameyang to Pulisic gw3 as well as you - and use cash to get TAA/Robertson gw4

Only difference is I am not focusing on midfielders alone.

Great to see some new thinking.

I haven't looked closely at whether these are trades up/down in each instance, but would you not be concerned about Transfer Values...?
If you are consistently shifting players out and taking a 'hit' value-wise, are you realistically going to be able to afford them next time around?

I appreciate that the elite players may be slower to experience price changes but what happens if some of your bandwagon selections have a good week, or the new Chelsea boys get off to a flyer? From personal experience, sometimes that potential loss in value has encouraged me to be a bit more patient!

Out of that £25m, are you planning to retain at least £1m to cover the inevitable price rises? - Those Chelsea new boys could put on £0.5m each by October. Constant transfers does risk negating any profits you might have achieved by holding them a little longer...

My regular strategy has been to build and bank cash up til a late WC at which point you should have enough cash to get anyone you like. - I might revist your strategy in the second half of the season once I have the cash, or perhaps look at the 'premiums' in blocks of 4-5 fixtures so I have a chance of banking that all important 0.1-0.2m, as we've all had that frustration of finding ourselves 0.1m short of the next perfect move...!

Keep posting, would genuinely love to see how this works out for you...

It's a very valid point! I have £1.0m itb if I was to have 2 x £12.0m so I'm hoping that covers it. Although, looking at it the max combo I have is £12.0/£11.5 (Sterling & Salah/Mane) so in actual fact I might be covered with £0m itb as long as they don't go up a combined £0.5m. That also doesn't take into account price rises of my 13 starters (of which hopefully there will be some).

Thanks for the interest - I'll update twitter with how I get on and if it's interesting I might provide an update as an article on here!

TATPS makes sense, but it’s what everybody is trying to do

    (1) get value players that you can keep
    (2) don’t waste trades optimizing between Kante and Xhaka
    (3) trade for optimal captain material

    Then this happens...

    (1) son gets red carded
    (2) mane get injured
    (3) a mid price guy, that you don’t own, or two starts killing it
    (4) two of your value players become rotation

hahahah yeah - Son always lets me down!

I think that I'll just ride those other factors out with my subs and hopefully my premium midfield transfers will provide me with enough points to compensate.

I've always been reluctant to move out players in form or the more expensive ones for fear they'll score big in the next game, this removes that fear.

Agree with the premise but as some have said on here already isn’t this what most people will be doing at least in short-term?

Also would argue the need to transfer every week, I’m planning on having 3 premium mids, which can rotate most weeks, still a need for transfers if following the model but vastly reduced, and allowing for flexibility in other areas

This is an interesting strategy, for sure, and I like new strategies. Would there be a problem with pricing? Whilst premiums won't rapidly leap in price due to high ownership, I'd have thought you'd still be frequently selling and buying back at a 0.1m loss, meaning over time, even if you bank 0.5 or 1.0, you'd run out of funds and maybe need to downscale a permanent asset or two. There's also be unforeseen circumstances where eg your 4.5m defender gets injured and the decent budget replacements are all 4.7 by then. Or do you think this wouldn't be a problem?

Price rises are a slight concern, I had originally kept £1.0m itb to cover them but looking through my combinations the most money I’ll need will be A 12/11.5 combo So I might actually be okay spending that on my 13 - if the premiums have increased too much by then I’d either have to take a hit to free up funds, target a different premium mid that week (either one in form or a cheaper one at the same club) or play my wildcard. That price combo won’t happen for me until GW10 which, although is earlIer than I’d planned for my wildcard, wouldn’t be worst time to play it.

Another thought I had if the price affects other assets that I need to get in could be to split the premiums up into primary and secondary - so Salah/Mane/Sterling/Auba rotate one place And Rashford/Bruno/Havertz/Pulisic/Havertz rotate the other - that could free up more money later down the line, but would mean not targeting every fixture I’d like to.

Yeh. I think at the end of the day, you won't need to use quite so many transfers. If one premium is obvious captain material, you don't need 2 playing weaker teams.

Someone more organised than me pointed out the following rotation - so if you can identify a few of these, then much fewer transfers required...

        GW10: Mane (bha)
        GW11: KDB (FUL)
        GW12: Mane (ful)
        GW13: KDB (WBA)
        GW14: Mane (cpl)
        GW15: Mane (WBA)

Don’t know what to make of Man City’s fixture run GW2-GW9

5 away (wol, lee, whm, shu, tot)
    3 home (LEI, ARS, LIV)

There isn’t a single game there they can’t win, but does it look ripe for 3 & 4 goal wins? Champs league before GW6, 7, 9 too

Whereas GW10 onwards sees BUR, FUL, WBA, NEW in a 6 game stretch, closely followed by BHA, CPL, wba, SHU in a 4 game block

    Hi!

Thanks for the article, it was very entertaining 🙂

I'm doing something similar, but more like targeting some premium teams for good fixtures (seems to be swapping between TOT and CHE assets for good part of the season at least). But also idea of finding out many assets to potentially hold on even for whole season. And then of course playing this so that it would be fun! 🙂

Tip to consider: I would include Tottenham's Son in your plans. Example GW6-8 problems could be solved with one Son 🙂 I also feel Tottenham is a bit overlooked this year and both Harry and Son could be great value and small "premium differentials" even.

    My team at the moment:
    McCarthy-Ryan
    TAA, Robertson, VVD, Justin, Vinagre
Auba (GW1 to Bruno), Son, Ritchie, Souchek, Noble (GW1 to Greenwood)
Kane, Vardy (GW1 to Martial), Vassilev

So as a Manu fan want to keep the game fun: therefore planning -8 in GW1. I also cant afford any price changes so at the evening of GW1 Saturday will trigger the moves! 🙂 I also have Vassilev as a fodder to avoid any price drops (compared eg. to Davis) if I want to change template later in the season.

But if fit and nailed I think I can keep hold of the whole team (after Manu players in) for the whole season in theory, expect Son and Kane like explained earlier. Of course the team will change, but at least planning this way I could avoid any major issues, expect for the team just performing badly, ha! 🙂

Also this is not the template, I guess, which I personally appreciate!

    Any feedback warmly welcome!

Good luck with your tactic! I hope it works well - One thing I saw was that Ritchie might be sold (maybe to Bournemouth) so you might need someone else if that happens?

Okay, thanks for the info! Based on games after the lockdown last season, I thought he would play quite a lot in any formation and be on pens as well. But back to tinkering then! 🙂

Hey that's a great strategy and im willing to give it a go. But to be honest i got a bit confused with the 13 other players. Who are the proposed strikers (or slots rather)? Wood, mitro and 4.5? Also how many premium mf will be in the team? One locked and two rotating? Can you please give us a visual example of a team? Not necessarily with names but with price tags? Thank you in advance!

Hey - you can choose absolutely anyone you want for your other 13 players. I've been tinkering and moving things around and keep changing my mind - I've got most slots locked in, but it's the final 4 I keep moving about - below are 3 different spreads of money for you to try and see what you're happier with - each one allows 1 premium mid to keep for the whole season (i have it as KDB) but, if you want someone cheaper and to involve KDB in your rotations you'd free up more cash for other positions.

      GK £4.5m - £4.0m
      DF £7.5m - £4.5m - £4.5m - £4.5m - £4.0m
      MF empty - empty - £11.5m - £5.0m - £5.0m
      ST £8.5m - £6.5m - £6.0m

This would mean your £4.0m DF is probably bench fodder and then you rotate the final 2 bench spots with your £5.0m MFs and £6.5m/£6.0 strikers.

      I've also done:

      GK £4.5m - £4.0m
      DF £7.5m - £4.5m - £4.5m - £4.5m - £4.0m
      MF empty - empty - £11.5m - £5.0m - £4.5m
      ST - £8.5m - £8.5m - £4.5m
This allows two premium strikers but you have a def, mid and striker as bench fodder

      &:

      GK £4.5m - £4.5m
      DF £7.5m - £6.0m - £4.5m - £4.5m - £4.5m
      MF empty - empty - £11.5m - £5.0m - £5.0m
      ST £6.5m - £6.0m - £6.0m

This means all of my 13 players can be starters to cover any injuries/suspensions/covid

The thing I'm still weighing up is whether I need all 3 bench players and a GK who plays to save me from transfers and hits in the future. I don't really want any bench fodder - but if I do select the lowest price players then I can afford better starters.

When selecting your 13 I'd choose players you want to have all season, or at least until your first wildcard - Players like Ayling, Soucek and Mitrovic should play every game.

      Hope this was useful

Wow! Million thanks! More than i was expecting. Im currently on a draft very similar to your 2nd proposal here with two strikers around 8.5m. I think its important to have a quick opening in case a premium striker emerges during the season.

Good thinking! Play it however you're most comfortable. The thing that moved me away from option 2 was that my bench players weren't guaranteed game time. My final spreading of cash is below as another comment with a bit more of an explanation if that helps?

You have a point. The position that "hurts" mostlyis the 4.5m striker that you know he won't play (the 4.5m mf can bring a couple of points at least). Trying to figure out if somehow i can upgrade him without killing my team or just bite the bullet.
Let me check out your comment and come back to you.

Who will go with TAPTS strategy ?
I think its so simple but little gambling
    Any way
RMT my team pls if u agree with this strategy
    Mccarthy
    TAA doherty egan vinagre
    Salah auba son soucek
    Virner mitro

    Sub nyland anguissa davis Taylor
    1.5 m at Bank
    and according to TAPTS strategy
    Gw2 salah to Bruno
    Gw 3 auba to pulisic
And go on like article said

That's a good starting XI! You could even use some more of the £1.5m to upgrade players on your bench, in case they're needed to play! How much will depend on what you think of price rises and how many times you think you'll play 2 x £12.0m midfielders

If anyone is interested in how I've divided funds for my final team up for this strategy - this is what I've settled on:

    GK £4.5m / £4.0m
    DF TAA / Robertson / £4.5m / £4.5m / £4.0m
    MF KDB / £5.0m / £5.0m / empty / empty
    ST £6.5m / £6.5m / £6.0m

Nailed to start every week is:

    GK £4.5m
    DF TAA / Robertson / £4.5m / £4.5m
MF KDB empty empty (my premiums)

Then, I will play 3 of my strikers & £5.0m midfielders depending on who has the best fixtures, or who might be in form. For this reason, they're all players I think are guaranteed starters for their team. The other two will be on the bench. The £4.0m defender will occupy the 3rd bench spot.

I have spent £1.5m more than I say in this article - this was because I realised I wouldn't ever need £24.0m to cover my midfielders as I won't have a £12.0m/£12.0m combo. The most I'll need is £23.5m in GW 10 - this is the exact amount I have in the bank - so if there have been price changes that aren't covered by my 13 player price rises i'll take a hit or play my wildcard. But, I'm hopeful my players will increase in value enough to cover any rises in other players I might want.

Ok i see what you did here. So if i don't go for the double pool defence and keep one only then i can add the money to first striker and go for someone like ings or martial etc
Out of curiosity which strikers are you planning to get? You mentioned wood and mitro. Who else in this price tag worth it?

      1. Jimbuck2FPL

Yes exactly - if you want a Man U attacker every week then having Martial could be good - depends on where you see value. I’m not 100% sure yet on the strikers. I’m starting to lean away from Mitro with Rodrigo and Ayew coming into my thinking, but only as they’re both going to start (from GW4 at least) and their % ownership is lower so more chance of them increasing in price than decreasing to cover me later (Mitro could bang 2 hat tricks and be £7m in no time of course). There’s nothing stopping me having all 3 and banking an extra £1.0m as I wouldn’t have the £6.5m strikers.

My structure is very similar, and I'm with you until I get to the front line. For me, all the strikers below 8.5 are hopeless and not worth bothering with, so I ensure I have one premium striker spot.

          So my squad is
          GK 4.5/4.0
          DEF TAA/VVD/Gomes 4.5, 4,0
MID KDB, Bruno [one other premium] 2x4.5 [goes a bit wrong there]
          FWD 9.5 (currently), 6.0, 4.5

          0.5 itb

But I decided not to follow your transfer strategy because, unless I'm missing something, the price rises will soon scupper it. If, say, you sell MID1 in GW10 for MID2, then in GW11 sell MID2 for MID1, you're highly likely to lose 0.2 even if you do the transfer before the weekend is over. Not every time, but just 3 weeks' of transfers could use up 0.5. So it seems to me you'll be taking hits or making second transfers that weaken your little guys. So what I've done is worked out a system where my 3 MID PREMS and TAA take on all the captaincies. My floating premium striker could take the armband if the conditions are right but the system doesn't rely on him.

I like that a lot! Lots of room for manouvre - If you didn’t want Werner and fancied Ings or Jimenez your £4.5m become Soucek/Berge (or even Havertz and Martial for Bruno and Werner saves £3.5m for upgrades elsewhere?)

I've switched Werner to Vardy now!!! If I downgraded my main striker to 8.5, I think 10.5 would be out of reach if I suddenly want Kane or Aguero. Better to start at the top and look down, I think. But if it seems that the super=premium forwards are all a bit meh, that 2FT would be a definite go-er.

I get what you mean about the little guys too - Ings got 70 more points than any of my 6.5/6.0 guys last year, I hope that rotating them for form/favourable fixtures covers some of this. There is a world where I have Werner and Robertson but then I’m almost locking in a hit GW7

Splitting the KDB money across the forward line will also allow you to have 2/3 premium forwards - if you replace him with a £4.5m only one of your £4.5/5/5 mids start with the other two on the bench. You’d have £2.5m itb and then if you get caught by price rises one of your strikers becomes a 6/6.5 and the remaining cash can boost midfield

Ye gods, you're right. If I have KDB OR Raz, my captaincies are shared between him, Bruno and TAA.
I could have the dreaded 5-2-3 formation, morphing into 4-3-3. Lemme get to it!! Thanks.

This is what I've come up with:

    GK 4.5/4
    DEF 3 BIG REDS (controversial!), 5m, 4m
    MID 2 PREMIUM SEASON-KEEPERS, 5.5, 2x4.5
    10m, 8.5m, 6m

    4-3-3

If a great sub-prime mid arises (eg at Chelsea), I could get it by losing Ings. Any other structural changes would require major surgery. I think I'm alright with this.

    1. Jimbuck2FPL

It’s strong! The bench can always be changed to players who are starting if a 5/4.5 starter emerges.

I think I am going to spread KDB funds. This is possible and I’m keen:

      Gk £4.5m/£4.0m
      Df £7.5m /£7.0m/ £4.5m/£4.5m/£4.0m
      Mf 2 x rotating premiums / £5.0m/£5.0m/£4.5m
      St £9.5m/£8.5m/£8.5m

This means I’m 4-3-3 and one of £5.0m mf starts (or 4.0 df/4.5 mf if they turn out to be a good option)

I think it was spread as KDB - Soucek - A £5.5m. But, don't use that as vrebatim - there are lots of ways of spreading the money. I'm currently tempted by not having KDB and splitting his money amongst the forward line!
