Scoutcast Episode 351 – Ben Crabtree chats about life after winning FPL

Fantasy Premier League managers are used to having to seize opportunities when they arise in the game. The same applies for this week’s Scoutcast when Joe and FPL Family’s Sam don’t let the chance to quiz a former champion pass by.

The pair are joined by 2016/17 winner Ben Crabtree to look ahead to Gameweek 8 and find out what it is like to win a game that more seven million people play each season.

They find out what exactly happens when an FPL manager becomes champion and how it impacts on their life. Would Ben put the achievement on his CV? Which Premier League star did he meet when he claimed his VIP trip to see his team Everton? How does he stay motivated to continue playing? These and many more questions are answered during the show.

Meanwhile, Joe, Ben and Sam, who is filling in for the holidaying Az, also look ahead to Gameweek 8’s tough decisions. Will this be the last moment in the sun for Tottenham Hotspur assets, before their tricky fixture run starts?

While the games get harder for Spurs, the Season Ticker looks far better for West Ham United and Chelsea. Our Scoutcast trio assess which players to target from these other London sides.

Elsewhere, there are all the usual features as they look back on their Gameweek 7, reveal their transfer and captaincy plans and frisk the next four fixtures.

After Karam finally picked a differential that scored the Scoutcast points last time out, Ben takes his turn this week to select a low-owned gem. Has the tide finally turned for our selections? Given Ben’s exceptional pedigree in the game, we certainly hope so.

Early sub & Pulisic injury(?) means he may get minutes - but by no means a bankable starter for the match.

Zaha 0.58 xgxa p90 this season and 0.5 over his career as striker. Really cannot be ignored when upfront, unlike when he is on the wing.

I own him since GW2 and I can't wait to get rid in 2 weeks probably.
Not paying attention to stats that much, but Palace are awfull and unwatchable. Granted, if they score, he is probably involved, but he isn't fun to own.

You should probably ignore this in making your decision. 😉

Yea as a team attacking wise they are bad at getting many chances for different players. But when they do get them they go through him

Vardy party under way? He went on a ridiculous run last year & looked really sharp vs Leeds (+ great fixtures starting gw10)

Would you bring him in over Kane this GW?

Any idea if Reguilon will be fit for the weekend? Heard any news?

  12. Big boy Bowen

Anyone toyed with the idea of a front 3 of:

    Kane | Vardy | Werner

All on pens, explosive and playing for very attacking sides scoring plenty of goals...

Means likely no City or at least only one of Salah/Mane/Sterling/KdB.

    Thoughts?

    1. Big boy Bowen
      • 7 Years

As an idea playing around with mine, 0.5ITB:

      Martinez
      Chilwell | Lamptey | Dallas
      Salah | Son | Grealish | Soucek
      Kane | Vardy | Werner

      Steer | Mitchell | Kilman | Bissouma

Slight issue maybe playing Soucek every week though

      1. Big boy Bowen
        • 7 Years

Soucek could be ASM, who I think could still turn out to be great value

You will want City assets from GW 10 tbf, maybe United too.

Currently have Bruno and he could be KdB, but will essentially have to choose between the Manchester clubs

Would be a different approach. Don't fancy Kane with Spurs' fixtures though. Salah is still a must imo. Toying with the idea of Salah, KDB and Werner my self. I Think that is the way to go. Besides, who would your midfielders be then? With your rank I think you ought to play it a bit more safe

Just throwing the idea out there, for any looking to Wildcard and go a bit ‘risky’/different

    4. Mile Plankton
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

      I can't fit all three.

I wanted this front 8 in 2 weeks.
      Salah/KDB/Hames/Grealish/ASM
      Vardy/Kane/Brewster

And now I see there is no Chelsea in there.
So back to drawing board it is.

      1. Big boy Bowen

        Kane to Werner might work

        1. Mile Plankton
          • 11 Years
          3 years, 4 months ago

That might not be such a bad idea, given the situation in my ML. And it leaves some cash to upgrade defence or ASM.

    5. FPL Theorist

These are the worst kind of "go for broke" wildcards imo. At least if you go for broke with say, triple City attack, you can get out of it easily enough. With a bad structure, you can't.

      1. Big boy Bowen
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 4 months ago

Each to their own, it could boil down to the fact that maybe the forwards this year at their relative lower price to mids proves the best value.
