Spurs host Fulham in Blank Gameweek 18 as Villa fixture postponed

Fantasy Premier League have been subjected to yet another spin of the fixture-dice as Blank Gameweek 18 changes complexion once again.

Just over 24 hours before Tuesday’s 16:30 GMT deadline, Aston Villa’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur was officially called off.

That means no midweek fixture for Jack Grealish (£7.7m), Ollie Watkins (£6.1m) and Emiliano Martínez (£5.1m), three popular Fantasy assets.

However, Harry Kane (£11.0m) and Son Heung-min (£9.8m) remain viable options for Blank Gameweek 18 as their home meeting with Fulham was added as a replacement for the Villa game.

Considering how short-notice the fixture is for the Cottagers, both of Spurs’ dynamic duo are certain to wrestle their way into the captaincy conversation.

They both registered double-figure hauls in their last home Premier League game, against Leeds, and could benefit from Fulham’s short turnaround.

Meanwhile, it also means that budget options such as André-Franck Zambo Anguissa (£4.5m) and Ademola Lookman (£5.0m) have been added to the pool of players who could help managers in Free Hit squads.

The secondary knock-on effect of today’s fixture changes also impacts on Double Gameweek 19.

That is because Fulham’s Friday-night meeting with Chelsea has been delayed until the following day, kicking off at 17:30 GMT now.

As this was the opening match of Double Gameweek 19, it looks as if the deadline for that round will move to 11:00 GMT on Saturday morning ahead of Wolves’ lunch-time meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

    Current team:

    CTaylor (doubt) Mitchell Dias
    KdB Son Bruno Saka
    Kane

Out: Martinez Forster KWP Coufal Grealish Watkins DCL

Means I have probably 7 playing. 9 at best.

    Which option:

    A. FH
    B. Wildcard
    C. Keep as it is
    D Something else

Leanding towards B or C. Thoughts?

Rate my wildcard team please. Damage limitation in gw18 and hopefully 13 dgw players for bb19.

    Gw19: Kane & Zaha -> Antonio & Salah

    Areola (Martinez)
    Cancelo-Tierney-Stones-Lindelol (Coufal)
    KDB-Bruno-Son-Zaha (Soucek)
    Kane-Wood (Bamford)

Martinez, Konsa, Mings, Cash, Luiz, Targett, Grealish, McGinn, Ghazi, Barkley, Watkins and 2 more undisclosed.

Picked this from the Villa forums - these are the players who tested positive.

I didnt watch any Arsenal games this year 😀

No. He's young and potentially injury prone. Arteta won't want to push him too hard, but he's currently the Bruno Fernandes at Arsenal, so expect him to start most games and get removed as early as possible to protect him. That is unless Arsenal sign someone to usurp him this January. If you're talking the super short term, then yeah, he's very likely to continue starting games, I'd say, but he'll be very prone to rotation, especially if Tets rolls out a 343 against stronger opposition.

        He’s starting

Yes I expect him to start the next game too.

Well he's not been playing consistently at a high level since his groin injury. Of course, the loan at Huddersfield helped. But Arsenal has a history of overworking young players, and Arteta doesn't want to put too much pressure on the youth, hence his reluctance to play Smith Rowe and others all season; hence bringing in Willian while we have Saka, Martinelli, Nelson and the superstar Pepe already.

I think he'd hoped that Willian could play the 10 role if necessary, but realised early on that he didn't have the players, Willian included, to pull off his preferred formation. But it seems that he should ahve run with it anyway with Smith Rowe in the centre. However, with no backup to Emile, it's a of work in that direction when it could all fall apart with the injury of one youth player who hasn't proven his consistency in the prem yet. Willian was tried in the 10 role in the FA cup and failed.

Maybe we'll see a bit more of a 433-type thing going on with the return of Partey, and we'll see what part ESR has to play. Hopefully a bit part. But if Arsenal bring in another outfield player this window, it will likely be someone for ESR to understudy or, at the least, to share minutes with.

Have to disagree. He has been brilliant and one of the reason why Arsenal started to play well. I think it’s his spot to lose at this rate, if he continuous the way he plays then he is bargain

        1. Deulofail
          • 8 Years
          3 years, 2 months ago

I mean, I said the same as you. But that doesn't make him nailed. He's certainly a bargain. I just bought him an hour or two ago.

Smith Rowe was brilliant for Huddersfield, and played well for Arsenal whenever he's appeared this season, while others have been consistently poor. Yet Arteta hasn't been playing him. He needs others in the squad to perform too for his plans to work. He can't rely on one group of 11-12 players for the rest of the season, and he can't have all the senior plays be understudies to the young players. Even if they are first choice, he'll want to mix the experience in wherever and whenever he can. He's a tinkerer. I'm sure he doesn't intend to give Smith Rowe 90 mins once or twice a week for the mid- to long-term.

Besides, with Arteta, you're only ever one mediocre performance away, or one good performance by a more senior player while you're rested, from moving down the pecking order, temporarily or otherwise.

As an Arsenal fan, I've been wanting to see him in the first team for a couple of years at least. So it's great that it's happening, but Arteta is just so 'pragmatic' about these things.
