Fixtures

What the FA Cup fifth round ties will mean for the Blank and Double Gameweeks

The postponed fixtures in Blank Gameweek 29 will be known after the completion of this week’s FA Cup fifth-round matches, which get underway on Tuesday evening.

The quarter-finals of English football’s showpiece cup competition clash with a set of Premier League fixtures on the weekend of March 20/21 and, with an international break following immediately afterwards, there is no chance of the postponed league games moving to the subsequent midweek.

Some of these matches will likely be shifted to the as-yet-unannounced but widely expected Double Gameweek 26, leaving Fantasy Premier League managers with little time to make adjustments.

BLANK GAMEWEEK 29

Only Fulham v Leeds United is so far guaranteed to go ahead in Blank Gameweek 29, with one – but not both – of West Ham United v Arsenal or Crystal Palace v Manchester United also assured of taking place.

We could get anywhere between two and seven of the pre-scheduled fixtures going ahead, depending on the midweek results.

GW29 Premier League fixtureA blank will happen if the following happens in the FA Cup fifth round:
Brighton v NewcastleBrighton beat Leicester
Burnley v LeicesterBurnley beat Bournemouth AND/OR Leicester beat Brighton
Crystal Palace v Man UtdMan Utd beat West Ham
Liverpool v ChelseaChelsea beat Barnsley
Man City v WolvesMan City beat Swansea AND/OR Wolves beat Southampton
Sheffield Utd v Aston VillaSheffield Utd beat Bristol City
Spurs v SouthamptonSpurs beat Everton AND/OR Southampton beat Wolves
West Brom v EvertonEverton beat Spurs
West Ham v ArsenalWest Ham beat Man Utd

The unlikely scenario of only three blanks in Gameweek 29 will occur if Bournemouth, Swansea, Bristol City, Barnsley, Spurs and Southampton all win.

For those rooting for maximum carnage in Gameweek 29, victories for Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, Manchester City, Sheffield United, Southampton and Everton would ensure seven blanks.

There is, confusingly, the distant prospect of a game being added to Blank Gameweek 29.

Should Spurs be eliminated from the FA Cup in midweek and Sheffield United and Southampton progress, for example, then the Gameweek 18 meeting between the Lilywhites and Aston Villa could be accommodated.

We’re into the realms of serious guesswork now, of course, but the picture should be coming a lot clearer by the week’s end.

    Need a hand with subs!

Is this the best line up? Feel like I should make use of Mee double fix but who for?

    Martinez
    Wan Bissaka. Dias. Cancelo
    Rash. Bruno. Salah. Gundo.
    Werner. Antonio. DCL.

    Saka / Mee / Rudiger

      Easy Werner bench for me.

I know he has returned in the last couple but I think he's been lucky. Tuchel has other options for this game and with a dead leg he could easily be rested anyway

Worth binning Stones to get Sterling on 2FTs? Also have Gundo and Cancelo.

Just think those fixtures are more attack friendly than defense. Even with City's ridiculous defence numbers.

Over the last couple of years, I have noticed Sterling starts all the high difficulty fixtures. If Pep thinks Everton is easy fixture, he will rest him.

Been debating similar as can afford Stones/Soucek > Lowton/Sterling to go with Cancelo and Gundo

The thing that puts me off is that the MITB enables me to get Kane for Antonio for 26 in 1FT, if I get Sterling now I'll need a new plan to get him

    Pope
    Dias - Stones - Coufal
    Salah - Son - Bruno - Gundo - Soucek
    DCL - Antonio

    Martinez - Bamford - Dallas - Kilman

    I have 2 FTs

Generally my plan for DGW25 is to do Soucek & DCL ➡ Raphinha & Kane for 2 FTs (have exact cash)

Just don't know what transfer to do this week, not to burn a FT - any ideas..?

if you were worried about having exact cash then you could do Soucek a week earlier (so effectively have an extra transfer net week)

Other than that you are in burning territory or a 1 week punt on someone instead of Soucek who you are moving on anyway (not that I can see anyone that is a better pick in the bracket)

Zaha is an idiot. He signed a new contract without putting the RC in. That's why he can't go anywhere and why he fired his agent last summer.

      £40m buys you Semedo.
      £50m Chilwell.
      £60m Ndombele.
      £70m Pepe and Havertz.

If I were Villa, I'd be wanting £100 based on that.

Value is largely determined by player pushing for a move and selling club finances. We don't need or want to sell so it would have to be a huge offer, and even then Jack would probably need to ask to go.

No way in hell we allow him to leave for £70m

He actually is a decent option. Will play both. But I might slap it on Gundo. Even if he does not play the full 90 in both, even a 60 per game should be good enough.

      Thanks G-Whizz!

For DGWs, I find it handy to look at the odds of each team keeping 0, 1, or 2 clean sheets. If my maths is right, based on your odds:

      Man City
      0 CS: 31%
      1 CS: 49%
      2 CS: 19%

      Burnley
      0 CS: 46%
      1 CS: 44%
      2 CS: 10%

      Everton
      0 CS: 53%
      1 CS: 42%
      2 CS: 6%

      Fulham
      0 CS: 55%
      1 CS: 38%
      2 CS: 6%

Given Fulham have 44% chance of at least one CS, compared to 43% chance for West Ham, maybe choosing between playing A Robinson and Coufal isn't as easy as I would have expected...

I haven't really decided really. Seeing how FA Cup pans out.

I may BB this week, keep Leeds etc in team (e.g. benched) for GW26 & then make a couple of odd transfers to prepare for GW29.

Wikdcard after to sort it out.

Equally I may WC 25 and just take the hit in 29 if it looks like a rubbish week.

Been seeing a lot of comments about Pope (c) in 24. I'm having nightmare flashbacks of Mark Schwarzer several years ago. Anyone else recall/fall into the trap?

If you want to captain Pope you might as well get Tarkowski on a hit and captain him. He most likely gets a goal on top of a claenie that you are hoping from Pope

But then the thinking is that Pope is more likely to get bonus than Tarko is to score.

That is also true. I don't have any Burnley but wouldn't get Pope ahead of Tarkowski for this double.

Odds of a Pope assist is probably as high as a Tarkowski goal . . .

Which one to drop my GW26 for Kane? Can't afford all of them
    A) salah
    B) Bruno
    C) son

Salah has shu in 26 at the moment, if he gets another good fixture in that GW, not owning him could hurt.

it's tough, have to wait and see the fixtures.

ah ok. Well Salah can score in any game, but Kane would be the clear C/TC choice.

It probably doesn't make much sense to drop Son for Kane, but IDK.

Different story if you have no Spurs going into it.

Can't really answer till we see the two players form after the next few. Don't feel like it's a good idea to ship Bruno full-stop, especially with Pogba being out... depends how long for though.

You already have two Leeds players for the double gw so I wouldn’t bring anymore in and just roll the FT to GW26

Hi - are son, Kane, Bruno and Salah essential for dgw26 based on what we know - or can I get away with no son (grealish instead)

Spurs likely to have 2 plum home games. But I'll need a - 8 to get son.

Alternative is to play wildcard in gw25 - but my team overall looks good for doubles so would be playing wildcard just to get son more or less

Prefer to save wildcard for gw30

    Thanks

    1. Tinkermania

You can get away without any one of those players.I

If Spurs lose to Everton in the Cup, there is a good chance they will double in 26 and play in 29 (which would be great for those of us without FH for 29), so I'd wait for that result before deciding.

    3. No Professionals
      • 6 Years

i wouldn't wildcard for 1 player. I think you can get away without Son.

Or lose Salah if you must (I probably wouldn't).

You don't really need all 4, no need rip out your team just to get all 4.

Thanks all. Son has been a massive thorn in my side all season....fully expect if u go without him I'll pay for it....but doesn't make sense to wildcard just for him....

When you are punting, it doesn't have to make sense. Especailly if it's a one week punt. Do it, but after the FA Cup games.

Only triple captaining an attacker and Everton and Spurs are no turnovers. I’m looking at an attacker against Leeds or Soton in 1 of their doubles.
