Well, Shaw scored and is in form. MU has replacement for Lindelöf. Every man and his dog has Shaw and since he plays for MU his price will sky rocket fast if he hauls early. At 5.5 I prefer to have him on my team and have Brighton def for the first game. Many are also planning to get him in for gw2, so not having him may cost 1 ft or not getting price rise. He is simply too obvious risk not to have.

Not sure yesterday's events such as disgusting behaviour of fans, disrespectful behaviour of players and organisational issues (safety breaches) wil help with England's World Cup 2030 bid.

Yet money talks in football... But that behaviour migh cost lives in the future when other fans are allowed to be there also. No chance of zero violence at all.

What sort of host is drunk, violent and booing his guests national anthem ?

Not my fault English fans are stuck in medieval.

Players taken off the medals didn't cover themselves in glory either...

Just a shame that nation which claims to be home of football is incapable of acting accordingly to the occasion.

None of us normal England fans, who are in the vast majority, condone that behaviour.

Within most large groups, you’ll find a subsection who are moronic, violent and prejudiced.

I think the issue I have is when we are all tarred wjth the same brush. Let me be clear, there is no one more ashamed of that minority’s behaviour than me this morning but that doesn’t mean all England fans are like that.

If the majority of the fans don't condone such behaviour why we haven't heard any cheering during German, Dennmark & Italy's anthem ?

I cannot comment on that, I wasn't at any of the games, but to use that as evidence that the majority of fans are drunken, disrespectful morons is unfair.

No one I know is anything less than disgusted by the behavior of those who've been violent, racist etc.

When Eriksen had been carried away from the pitch to hospital with Finnish flag covering him and people waited for the news the following happened: Finnish fans started to shout supportively Eriksen and Danish fans shouted back Christian. Difficult to imagine bigger contrast in behaviour.

Why chiellini dont get a red card? Its clear foul on Saka.

At least Chiellini or Jorginho get a red.

Unfortunately you can’t send Chiellini off for that. Yes it was almost assault, but only a yellow. Jorginho on the other hand was more of a case. Could easily have gone for that.

Rashford and Sancho were 'on ice' for the penalty kicks.

Much like in NFL where the opposition take a time-out before a field goal attempt to 'ice' the kicker.

Perhaps England need to bring a bit of astro-turf with them to put in the changing rooms so that penalty takers who are being subbed on can practice a few kicks just to get in the groove before penalties.

In the NFL, that is a 'horse-collar' and has been banned. If you 'horse-collar' an opponent, as well as your team getting penalised on the field, you get a personal monetary fine from the NFL.

Rashford took a decent penalty. He sent the GK the wrong way and only slightly missed.

Belotti's penalty was the worst out of all of those taken. Maguire's was the best.

      Sancho's penalty the most disappointing.

Two ways to look at it. Yes it was really annoying to wait for him to actually take the penalty and he looked daft afterwards, but he did send the keeper the wrong way and was half a foot away from being the perfect penalty. People will always have different opinions on it.

    4. Zimo

The fault lies with the senior players and Southgate. Why would u allow a teenager to take a penalty before you in such an intense moment that they've never been in before.

    5. Now I'm Panicking
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

When you send the keeper the wrong way you have 50% of the goal to aim at. I think he was just trying to be more precise than he needed to be. Still, if the ball goes a few inches to the right and goes in off the post, the pressure is off a little, and maybe Sancho and Saka both score. Fine margins.

This is the kind of comment that shows how much arrogant you are, unable to be humble and make self-criticism when needed. You were singing it was coming home, but you couldn't play better than us.
England team scored very soon and then they did their biggest mistake: they retired in their own half, behind the ball, trying to do what we usually do - defending as a team - without being able to do it. You should have continued your offensive action, trying to score another one. Instead, you chose to change the plot and that was your biggest mistake: it led you to disgrace, it gave us mental energy and it demonstrate us you were not unvincible.
You had very strong players individually, but they were not a team as we were.

England did well and lots to be hopeful in Qatar for but you test your metal in finals and southgate's biggest failure was having an Italian side on the ropes for 44 minutes and not going for that second goal. there was this facade of attacking football after shaw scored , pretty to watch but it wasn't ever credible. you never really believed they didnt just want to sit on a one goal lead against one of the best tournament teams in history. it was maddening to watch. another goal and the it was dead for the italians

      Good assessment.

What was interesting was that in the first half the Italians looked frustrated and were having a go at each other.

In the second half the exact reverse happened, Italy got in the ascendancy and England started getting frustrated and having a go at each other.

The Italian equaliser was so inevitable and from then on it looked like there was only going to be Italy win in ET or pens.

it sadly fits with Gareth's by the book style of management. all the same subs at the same time in every game throughout the tournament. he's the type of manager you can set your watch to and that can take you far but in a final you have to be brave and its just not his MO.

        1. pingissimus
          • 5 Years

Don't disagree with your overall assessment but I do think Southgate has grown as a manager and done better in game management this time than last.

Still think the praise of him is overdone. And agree on the lack of bravery point mostly - he is innately conservative and I'm slightly amused by the twisting of selections such as Trippier as LB as being "brave" - it would be branded as something quite different had another manger tried it.

Rice off was really the one predictable sub - you have to query his fitness there as he just doesn't seem to be robust enough for the full 90. In the Denmark game Southgate handled it well I thought.

As you and Nomar point out England had the game for the winning in the first half hour or so and really and truly that was where the game was lost - not going for the jugular then.
