FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Saturday goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Kostas Tsimikas (£4.1m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) produced double-digit Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hauls and Manchester City demolished Norwich City 5-0 on a busy Saturday of Premier League football. Let’s take a peek at the Gameweek 2 round-up!

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

KEY FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Alexander-Arnold made it 7.75 points per match in his last 12 appearances with a double-digit haul against Burnley. Tsimikas followed suit with an 11-point return but the presence of the fit-again Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) on the Liverpool bench does perhaps signal that the budget defender’s run in the side could be coming to an end.
  • Brentford and Liverpool are the only two sides with two Premier League clean sheets to their name so far this season. The Bees and Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday; the two sides’ defences have allowed a combined 56 shots so far this season but have only conceded one big chance apiece.
  • In the continued absence of Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.0m), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.1m) claimed responsibility for Everton’s spot-kick in the 2-2 draw with Leeds. A total of 34 shots were shared evenly between the two clubs at Elland Road.
  • It’s two goals from three shots for Danny Ings (£8.0m) this season. He is the only current FPL forward whose conversion rate was in excess of 20% in each of the previous two Premier League campaings. He looks to be second in line for penalties at Aston Villa, however, as Anwar El Ghazi (£6.0m) stepped up to take the Villans’ spot-kick on Saturday.
  • Pep Guardiola made five changes to his Manchester City starting XI, saying ahead of kick-off that he “wants to make everyone involved.” Ferran Torres (£7.0m) was again ‘out of position’ up top as Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) excelled in a right-wing role while two of the benched players, Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m), found the net – as did Jack Grealish (£8.0m).
  • Another £4.0m defender, Shane Duffy (£4.0m), rolled back the years with a goal from a Pascal Gross (£6.0m) corner in Brighton’s win over Watford. He has had seven headed efforts from set-play situations this season – three more than any other Premier League player.

INJURY WATCH

FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Saturday goals, assists, bonus and injuries 5

As mentioned above, Robertson returned from a brief spell on the sidelines along with Jordan Henderson (£5.0m) and Thiago Alcantara (£5.5m).

Ashley Westwood (£5.5m) and Matej Vydra (£5.5m) missed out with a toe injury and a knock respectively, with James Milner (£5.0m) also absent because of a knock – all three players’ issues are thought to be minor in nature.

Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£12.0m) ankle problem kept him out of Manchester City’s win over Norwich, meanwhile.

Robin Koch (£4.5m) sat out Leeds’ draw with Everton because of a pelvic problem, while Rafael Benitez gave an update on Calvert-Lewin’s fitness after full-time:

He’s had a problem with his toe. He has not been doing full training sessions in the last 10 days. He is missing a little bit of the stamina to finish the games in the way he wants to finish them.

Leon Bailey (£6.5m) missed Villa’s win over Newcastle with a hamstring injury, with the Mapgies’ Isaac Hayden (£4.5m) aggravating a knee problem.

Minutes after scoring Brighton’s second goal, Neal Maupay (£6.5m) picked up a shoulder injury that led to his half-time withdrawal.

Graham Potter said of his striker:

Hopefully, it’s just a few days/weeks, that’s what we’re hoping for.

FPL OWNERSHIP AND CAPTAINCY – TOP 10k

While it’s still early days to be trusting the top 10,000 as a barometer of FPL performance, the figures are often a sight more useful than the overall ownership numbers when it comes to assessing active Fantasy managers.

Tsimikas is owned by more FPL managers than even Alexander-Arnold in the top 10k, with Salah and Fernandes – as is so often the case – the only two players whose ‘effective ownership’ is in excess of 100%.

Fernandes and Salah mopped up a combined 95% of the captaincy in the top 10k.

While the Egyptian blanked, there was joy for many of the armband differentials such as Mahrez, Ings, Alexander-Arnold and Grealish.

Good opportunity to escape from Toney to a 3-5-2. Not that Toney won't do well, it's just you'll struggle to replace him with 1FT in the future.

Have 2 FT's. Need to get rid of Gundogan and Toney and i would ideally like to get Raphinha and DCL, but it's impossible without a third transfer. Any suggestions, better alternatives?

    Sanchez - Foster
    Taa - Shaw - White - Ayling - Tsimi
    Salah - Bruno - Son - Gundogan - Brownhill
    Ings - Toney - Scarlett

Yes unfortunately you will be 0.2/0.3 short. But I think it will be worth it over the next couple of GWs.
I can only think of "White" to a playing 4.0 defender, Ayling and Duffy rotates well.

And yes, if you want to do both DCL and Raphi, then you will need to downgrade either Shaw/Taa. Maybe Shaw to any 4.5 defender from Spurs?

I doubt it, Potter hardly played him in his first season, loaned him out to Celtic last year and is only playing him now because of injuries. He doesn't strike me as the kind of manager who is going to go back on that after two good performances.

What points are people on here out of interest? 150 here with 5 left this week but still seeing lots of potential for a much earlier WC to target fixture swings now compared to later for Cheslea and City (which can be got by selling Bruno and Salah then)

Nice. What were the players you wanted out or made you want to do it?

Im strongly considering it to get something like this for week 3:
        Meslier
        Shaw Pereira Reguillon (Tierney, Duffy)
Son Alli Bruno Barnes or Raphinha ( Biss)
        Vardy Antonio Bamford

With Vardy and son place holder for later DCL and Salah transfers, you got a draft?

Just playing around for now, nothing decided

Ali Son and Barnes would be Salah Sarr Raphina , would possibly maybe just have Raphinha over Barnes to avoid longterm moves

Alli and Son i think are decent short term (2 weeks punts) if looking at such fixtures. Alli will play most likely cam i expect with Kane to be transferred

I always go early. Picking a gw 1 team is an absolute lottery. After 20-40 premier league games I usually have an informed idea of the squad I want going forward.

          I'll have messlier.
TAA and two of Pereira/Tierney/reguilon. Duffy and livramento probably.
          Salah, son, jota,
          Vardy, Antonio

Weighing up last couple attackers. Bamford, DCL, benrhama, Barnes, Bowen, Sarr, Traore, Grealish all possibilities

            Ok

looks pretty decent and very similar to what im currently thinking, you not tempted to lose TAA and Salah for their fixture turn now?

Or at least have Son for Salah for a few weeks?

No plan for Shaw also btw or Bruno no?

TAA is probably the most nailed player in my team. He's the best player in fpl. Safe vet to outscore all the 7 to 9m forwards and mids over a season. Literal points machine. Baines on steroids.

Salah looks the best (C) in game weeks 4,5,6 imo so no won't sell ATM.

              No Shaw no bruno

Ya TAA i agree on, but i love to risk with Fixtures which can of course be burned, but tend to agree and may very well have him in. He was playing very centrally advanced yesterday. I reckon Periera at Leic is close to a cheat code, i have read many leic fans expect him to play RW instead of perez with castagne at rb. Seems very possibly as he has played their alot in his debut season few years ago

The Salah problem coming up ( International break + chelsea) seems a low risk chance to have Son for 2 weeks and ship,

Have seen your thoughts on Bruno before, agreed that people need to really think on captain options. I am also looking at the Bruno to Salah week 5 move. Since my captains would be Son/Vardy week 3 and Bruno week 4 and then dont see myself captaining him (Bruno) for a good while after.

Front 3 with DCL bamford and antonio could just be a set an forget, but im also on Vardy for this week at Norwich and waiting on DCL.

I'm annoyed because I nearly started with Perriera but opted for cancelo instead. Pereira RW is a possibility but far from certain. Strange situation for Rodgers now with three world class right backs. Perriera is much better at right back than RW or RWB. Castagne better as a RWB. Knowing Rodgers there will be a lot of chopping and changing when all fit

Yes can see rotation there also a possibility

It may be just best to go with Tierney and Reguillon since they are set and forgets. Pereira could be gold if we could be sure he starts. May indeed be some rotation but he has looked back to his best the past few weeks

Your plan is to also hold Son in the coming weeks beyond week 4 yes, i guess at his price he is sub premium and can get premium like returns.

You not considered Bruno for week 3 and 4, and then Salah for longer?

Definitely, I'm a bit glad he didn't score again to hopefully avoid him rising too soon but he looks like a great option. I had him during his good spell in Watford's last season in the PL and he's much more improved and important in that side now

Wish I knew who of the 4.5 defenders at Spurs was nailed... would bring one in for Ben White this week if I had any confidence in starts.

Tanganga looked good vs City, but there is rotation threat, and one of Dier or Sanchez looks like to keep their place, but no idea which.

Don't sell Raphinha vs. BUR. Liverpool attacked down the wing he plays on & it's a great fixture for him.

Only sell if it is confirmed he'll have to quarantine after the Internationals.

Sarr could possibly wait a week. Toney to Bamford, maybe. Reckon Bamford will do alright vs. BUR but DCL is higher up on my wishlist (in part due to Raphinha being a thing)

On a WC (drifted from template and now have too many fires to put out). I have three drafts.
      Boils down to:
      A) Keep Bruno, TAA, Mo, Son and have a weaker front three (Dennis,
      A Armstrong and Antonio)
      B) Lose Trent and squeeze in Vardy, Bruno, Mo and Son
      C) Lose Mo, with the money going on Vardy, Barnes, Jota and Ings/DCL.

      Erring toward B.
C is such a good team, but scares me taking Mo out (I don’t believe the quarantine thing will happen).

No need for so many big hitters

You need to plan out your captains and go from there

For me now its Son Bruno Vardy for next week as options

        Week 5-6 is Salah

        • 12 Years

Lose Bruno or Salah for Grealish. You need to have a good balance for 11, then fodder, possibly playing fodder. 4.5m mids have more potential than 4.5 forwards. A 4m sub keeper and a there are a few 4m ish defenders with maybe longer term potential.

Currently your wildcard is blowing the budget for potential hitters to the detriment of good balance.

Having gone on about greenwood as the standout capt pick this week, I choked at the last min and went for the safe option of Salah capt. I wasn’t so fussed about the blank as he was quite involved and should have had at least a goal. But I should have backed myself and I will moving forwards - this is after all a game and we should trust our instincts to make it more fun. Now let’s hope for a hassenhuttl masterclass to ease my pain

Yes sell. He was never going to be more than a punt for a week or two. Didn't pay off but was worth a crack.

"Coverage" is a nonsensical misconception. Dont worry about city player just pick who you think will get the most points

Townsend or Gray as an Everton option? Remember reading somewhere that Rafa said one of them was crucial in pumping crosses into DCL - now can’t remember which.

Hi. Any ideas on what to do here with 2 freebies?

      Sanchez
      TAA ,Coufal, Ayling
      Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Barnes
      Toney, Antonio, Ings

      Steele, White, Tsimi, Brownhill
      0.5 itb

Obviously Tsimi should go out, but wanted to check whether Toney or Gundo are more of a priority to be shipped out?
