Pro Pundits - Lateriser

Are Gameweeks 4 and 7 the best time to play the first Wildcard in FPL?

The Gameweeks are coming in thick and fast and more often than not we forget to sit back and think macro.

Chelsea’s performance on Sunday was incredibly encouraging and with most Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers having no Blues assets, a few might be thinking of a Wildcard during the first international break which follows Gameweek 3.

So, I thought it might be a good time to look at the merits of a Gameweek 4 versus a Gameweek 7 Wildcard.

The idea of this article is to help you think about the factors involved, that is all. Whether you Wildcard or not obviously depends on the state of your team and I leave that decision to you.

GAMEWEEK 4 WILDCARD

    Sanchez
    TAA - Shaw - Amartey
    Salah - Bruno - Raphinha - Benrahma
    DCL - Ings - Antonio

    (Foster - Tsimikas - Brownhil - Omobamidele) - 1.4 ITB - 0 FT

Tsimikas -> Coufal for a -4 or avoid hit and trust Amartey to give me 1 more week?

With DCL rising tonight and Toney falling before gw3 - should I do

    Cresswell, Toney > Coufal/Reg, DCL -4

Really don’t want to be priced out.

I WC'ed last GW, you can have 3 of Salah, Bruno, Lukaku and TAA but 4 is too much of a push

      Sanchez
      Shaw James Ayling
      Salah Bruno Greenwood Benrahma Sarr
      Lukaku Antonio

Steele Livramento 4.5 def 4.5 Fwd

I've got it currently but I'm not on WC
      Sanchez
      Shaw Ayling Duffy (Livramento White)
      Salah Bruno Benrahma Raphinha (Gilmour)
      Lukaku Ings Antonio
0.5 in the bank(and a planned Ings to jiminez move next week) to upgrade my defense with a Chelsea defended for ayling/white. I'm pretty happy tbh.. Or atleast i will be once my defense gets sorted in a few weeks

One needs to accept they can't have taa though.. And be happy with a defense of
        manutd, Chelsea, 4.5er and 2 4.0s

So what you compare to is

          Ings + TAA
          or
          Lukaku + ayling

I bet the first two has a bigger chance to outscore the second two

      I’m looking at something like

      Sanchez
      Dier, Ayling, Coady
      Salah, Bruno, Greenwood, Benrahma
      Lukaku, Dcl, Antonio

      Foster, Duffy, Bissouma, Livramento

Not WCing but with 3 transfers could get this:

      Sanchez (Gunn)
      TAA/ Dier/ Ayling (Veltman/ Livramento)
      Salah/ Bruno/ Jota/ Raphina/ Gilmour
      Lukaku/ Antonio (Scarlett)

Could downgrade Trent or Jota to upgrade Gilmour or Scarlett

I'm not sure it's worth having all 3 though, the premium values aren't the best value unless you're captaining them and with 3 it's not a good use of budget I don't think.
I'll be sticking to just 2 in the 10m+

Fanteam prices now updated, and really not many changes of note. I picked a late reg team for a bit of fun and only have 100.7 to play with.

Compare to my early teams (with more points obviously) that are now on 100.3 or 100.5, late registrators in the mud?

Benny and Tsimikas went up .2 and only ones as far as I can tell.
I can't see any fallers at all? I have Bertrand and Veltman and they are still on 4.5, no complaints. Even DCL and Pogba have not budged... Duffy, Alonso and Antonio other +.1s in my team(s)

Why so many managers want to use their precious FT for 4.0 player to gain just 0.1? Is that amount really that crucial you should take a hit for it, just asking.. I got it if you don't have any other burning issues with your team.

    But anyhow, 2FTs and 1.5ITB

    Sanchez
    TAA, Shaw, Ayling
    Salah, Bruno, Barnes*, Benrahma
    Ings, Antonio, Toney*

    4.0, Brownhill, Tsimikas*, White*

Barnes -> Raphinha most sensible transfer or wait Norwich game? If wait, then probably White/Tsimikas -> Livramento and save another FT.

    Then GW4 planning to do:
    Ings + Toney -> DCL + Jimenez/Bamford

Wouldn’t do it for 0.1 but freeing up 3rd Liverpool spot could be useful down the line and, after 2 good weeks, 2 FTs available and no one else I’m looking to lose. Still mightn’t do it but that’s why I would.

      I agree
When I first started playing I put a huge emphasis on team value and it really made me make some dreadful decisions. So now I totally ignore it!
Once you've had a few players go up and sold for 'profit' there should be enough in the bank to cancel these things out

Got 2 FTs and 0.0 in the bank

    Martinez (Foster)
    TAA, Shaw, Coufal (Tsimikas, Veltman)
    Salah, Fernandes, Benrahma, Barnes, Gundogan
    Ings, Antonio (Obafemi)

Thinking Gundo to Raphinha and save the other FT, then probably Ings to DCL after the break.

    Thoughts appreciated!

Not yet. Liverpool don't want their players travelling so Leeds may think, well why should we give them that advantage?

I actually just brought in Raphinha knowing he could miss GW4.

Realistically if it does it makes a Liverpool CS more likely and I MIGHT be able to play Duffy vs. BRE instead. Overall might end up better for me...

All ifs and buts at this stage though.

I would take Raphinha and -4. But are you sure about him with the GW4 doubts? I'd be considering Sarr.

I should have decent cover for Raph in GW4 if White is back.

          2 years, 7 months ago

Ah you'd think he's back by then. Looks good then, I'd take the hit for Raphinha vs Burnley as it also saves you a FT in the future.

  13. SKENG
    • 8 Years

Thoughts on what to do with 2 FTs?

    Bachmann
    TAA Shaw Ayling
    Salah Bruno Mahrez Benrahma Buendia
    Antonio Ings

    Foster Amartey Tsimikas Obafemi

    A) Buendia > Sarr and save
    B) Tsimikas > Duffy and save
    C) smth else?

Both A and B will be done over the next 2 GWs, so it's a question on which one to do this GW first.

    1. I Member
      • 8 Years

I guess you can give Buendia the Brentford game and do B.

      1. SKENG
        • 8 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Have not really watched Buendia but I read he hasn't looked good. B) would not have any implications on the first XI this week, so I guess it's Buendia (BRE) vs Sarr (tot). The fixture is clearly there, but something tells me Sarr could outscore him vs Spurs...

Fair enough if you fancy Sarr to score. Tougher fixture and they looked blunt against Brighton.

    Mini-League Leaders, Gameweek 2.

This is a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after Gameweek 2, another high-scoring one despite the two captain favourites both blanking.

    FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout mini-league ( https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) is open to all.
It is already the Best League in FPL, based on the average scores of the top five managers in each league. Our current top five are Sir Julius Kelzer, Foji 56, Ashkan Dehghani, Ryan Quinn and Jens Kristensen, all of whom are ranked in the top 45 overall.
Sir Julius is number one in the world with 236 points after Triple Captaining Mo Salah for 135 points in Gameweek 1 and Bench Boosting for 101 points in Gameweek 2. This is his first FPL season.

    FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Members mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c) is also open to all and the league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home page when signed in, but only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes.
This is currently the Fifth Best League in FPL, and our top five in this one are Sir Julius Kelzer, Ashkan Dehghani, Ryan Quinn, Rakesh Parthiban and Marko Calovic, who are all in the overall top 137.

    HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

The 8,352 teams in MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues have now been allocated to appropriate Divisions in the nine Leagues.
Current standings are shown in the table at the bottom of the right-hand column of the FFS Home Page, which will be updated daily with the live totals. There should be an article about this soon, which will explain how to find out which Divisions our teams have been placed in and who we played in Gameweeks 1 and 2.
See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/08/10/2021-22-ffscout-head-to-head-leagues/ for an explanation of how it all works.

    LAST MAN STANDING

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).
The Gameweek 2 safety score was 55, and 2,700 teams will go through to Gameweek 2. The competition will remain open till Gameweek 22, but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (Home - torresmagiclms.simplesite.com) to qualify.
The highest scorer in Gameweek 2 was Hero Grows, who captained Lukaku for 111 points.

    STRIKERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS

The team captains for this FFS Community team tournament organised by Boris Bodega and Greyhead have been announced, and if you want to take part and join one of the teams then you have until 9th September to sign in. See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/08/20/community-tournament-strikers-keepers-losers-weepers-team-captains-announced/ for details.

Rough with the Smooth, Gameweek 2.

    How did your Gameweek go?

Did you get a big green red arrow? Did you make any transfers or use any chips? Did your differential captain outscore the favourites?

You can share your tales of joy and woe here.

One manager who had a very smooth Gameweek was Sir Julius Kelzer, who leads both of our main FFS leagues and is now world number one after following his Triple Captaining of Mo Salah for 135 points in Gameweek 1 with a Bench Boosted 101 in Gameweek 2.

Smooth - best start to a season ever, with 2 triple-digit hauls and a Top 1K spot.
Rough - the knowledge that, like Brighton, there is only one direction to go now.

I captained Mahrez (although I likely would have gone Bruno if I owned him).
Couple that with the Liverpool fullback and Antonio and I’m looking at an 87 this week!

Rough: GW1 calls to go Jota/Amartey over Greenwood/Tsimi and Wilson all backfired in GW2

Smooth - Best ever start in 14 years of FPL. 121pts in GW1 followed up by 85pts in GW2. 'Template' team with a smattering of differentials such as Alonso has paid dividends. Usual suspects contributing this week... TAA, Tsimikas, Raphinha, Benrahma, Antonio, Ings. Up to 1,600 overall.

Rough - Gundogan the only issue two weeks in... done nothing except reduce in price. Will hold for Arsenal though.

78 feels a bit meh, probably shouldn't moan, decent enough green arrow, inside top 200k - which is rare for me, normally at 1million in october then gradually claw my way up to 20-30k finish. So an encouraging start so far.

good points- same as everyone else -tsimikas, taa, ings, greenwood and the mighty Antonio, weirdly salah captain sort of worked out as i didn't captain Bruno instead
bad points - toney, gundogan and not having benrahma (note - already shifted from one to the other)

hoping the next 3-4 weeks shake up the template

Captained Greenwood and got a GW rank of 26k thanks to the Antonio + Benrahma double up and a differential in Mane.

Also made it to 105k without Bruno (Son + Greenwood instead), Shaw (Coufal instead), Trent (Tsimikas instead), or Toney (Ings instead).

Rough: Barnes, Bruno(C) and went Toney(343) over Benrahma(352) in a last minute call GW1.

Smooth: 76points and up to 375k. Ok start.

      Rough:
      - captain Bruno (what a hope it was on Sunday morning)
      - replaced Veltman with Reguilon instead of strongly considered Duffy :/
      - Toney / Mbeumo combo failing to deliver
      Smooth:
      - 109 pts with Bench Boost delivering 30 pts (Sanchez / Mings, Mbeumo, Reguilon). BB planned for GW2 already well before the season as Villa and Brighton enjoyed favourable fixtures enabling budget for good 15 playing options
      - Benrahma, Antonio, Greenwood, Ings, Tsimikas + double Brighton and Villa defensive = all delivering
      - ranked 196 overall (highest ever Gameweek Rank - 884)

Stick. Still not sold on any of the other 4m (4.1) defenders being nailed and feels pointless making a transfer to someone who might also be non-playing when they're going to be 2nd or 3rd sub anyway

Maybe, but Benrahma has better fixtures and definitely has form - can be difference between a 0.3 swing.

Im not sure the fixtures argument can be applied here. Leicester play Norwich, Burnley, Brighton, Palace and Brentford in 5 of their next seven. This is pretty much equal to West Ham's.

Already sold. Had no other pressing concerns and wanted to catch the price rise as well as save a bit of money so it's even easier to afford Lukaku when the time comes.

It could definitely backfire this week but think it's wise in the long run

But West Ham (and Ben individually) have the fixtures and the form. Also Barnes is a potential rotation risk if they switch to two up top. All that together with the price swings are why I ditched last night, there is a risk with Norwich yes, but I feel it was worth it considering Ben has excellent fixture of his own.
