Sponsored by FanTeam

The UEFA Champions League is back tonight – and by the end of the group stage, you could be €50k richer!

Fantasy managers can put their European football knowledge to the test in FanTeam’s €250K Champions League Group Stage game, which comes with a guaranteed first prize of €50,000.

And not only that, we’ve got an offer for new and existing FanTeam customers whereby you can get your Fantasy Football Scout Premium Membership for free!

As the name of the game suggests, there is a total of €250,000 in the kitty, with the top 1,250 managers walking away with cash prizes.

With a maximum of 15,060 entries permitted and, at the time of writing, only around 8,000 teams currently entered, the odds are favourable for those who know their Sheriff Tiraspols from their Shakhtars.

Entries cost just €20 (£16.80), a sum that many of us will have readily forked out in our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues in the past.

Up to 100 teams per user are allowed, too.

Even better: the game rules and scoring system are very similar to FPL, so skills are easily transferred from one game to the other.

So if you’ve ever wanted to own both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in your Fantasy side – now you can!

JOSH’S UCL TEAM SELECTION

Josh Wooldridge, the winner of last season’s €250,000 first-place prize in FanTeam’s season-long Premier League game, has been chatting with Az over on our YouTube channel.

They have been discussing team selection for FanTeam’s Champions League Fantasy game, which you can view above.

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

  • Slightly from FPL, FanTeam Champions League managers build a team of 11 players that includes at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward.
  • Safety Net feature: If your player doesn’t start, he will be replaced by a starting teammate in the same position whose value closely matches the original selection (descending prices only).
  • A maximum of three players from a single Champions League club can be picked, with the budget for the initial squad set at 100.0m.
  • A captain is chosen to earn double points, with a nominated vice-captain scoring double if the captain doesn’t play.
  • Two free transfers are allowed every Gameweek, with each additional transfer costing minus four points. Managers can roll a maximum of two Gameweek transfers forward but can never have more than four free transfers in their locker.

With only the group stage covered in FanTeam‘s game, there is no need to worry about long-term planning for the knockout rounds, price changes or chip strategy: it’s simply a six-Gameweek tournament, which runs from mid-September to early December.

For a rule breakdown of the rules, see the above image.

SCORING SYSTEM

Seasoned FPL managers, or those playing FanTeam’s €1m season-long Premier League game, should have no problem in adjusting to the €250K Champions League Group Stage game.

The familiar scoring system is shown above, with the minor differences outlined below.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points (+0.3/-0.3) if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.
  • Each shot on target is rewarded (+0.4 for forwards/midfielders, +0.6 for defenders, +1.0 for goalkeepers).

What are Reguilon owners doing? With Antonio injury I have to start him this week. I am not expecting more than max one pt vs Che.

Shipped last week on WC. Would still ship this week - probs for James/Semedo

Spurs’ last performance coupled with their injury woes in DF would make me lean towards selling him - but only if I had a transfer going spare.

If other priorities, just keep him & hope for a cheeky assist or smth.

The issue for me is that the way I am playing this game, it looks likely that I would be only delaying that hit. Reece James is more likely to get that assist and CS now, so considering to bite the bullet now. At least it has some upside if I am lucky.

This week might be decent time to cash that 0.1 sv and get Reece James or City def in? Hate to take a hit for the transfer, but I might earn it back immediately. Having him and Lukaku already saves also probably WC come gw7.

Shipped him for James. Keeping Tony. Even if he does drop 0.4 over next 2 weeks. There's no one better at that price point, and I've Allan/Livra covering in his absence

I’m done with early transfers, it’s done me over twice now. The latest problem is I already took a -4 to bring in Ronaldo, and now I find out DCL has a broken toe.

Would you do a -8 for DCL > Jimi/Bamford or would you just hit the WC button? (I already have a draft I’m very happy with ready to go)

I already have Antonio as well so it would be Ayling coming in for Tony & Sissoko for DCL

one of the big advantages of having a WC is you can do early transfers with a get out of jail card - if you get burnt WCing isn't a problem - just judge it on your team rather than the -8. If you're taking a -8 and you've still got a few questionable players then it's WC time

This is what I'd say. If your team is fine otherwise then take the hit, if not and you still have pressing issues then go for it.

Sound advice. I’d be making 6 changes on top of the -4 I’ve already taken, so yeah, I think it’s worth it just about

I see many WC drafts with James. Is he a better option than Rudiger?

I think so yes. More of a rotation risk, but also more chance of attacking returns.
It’s risky, but I’d go for him on WC over Rudi for sure

    1Mini-League Leaders, Gameweek 4.

This is a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after Gameweek 4, when many Wildcards were played and CR7 and Lukaku both brought much joy to their new owners.

    ** FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout mini-league ( https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) is open to all. The new leader is Ryan Quinn, despite slipping to 21st overall. He has already played his Bench Boost, Triple Captain and First Wildcard.

    ** FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c) is also open to all, and the league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home Page when signed in, but only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes. The new leader is Shifat H.Shurid, who has risen to 10th overall after his Wildcard returned 90 points. He has not used any other chips.

Prince Ugochukwu was the winner of the August monthly prize (an Amazon voucher) with 303 points in Gameweeks 1 to 3 and should email geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk to claim it.

    ** HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

The early-season problems with MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues have now been fixed (See Community Article http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/09/13/ffscout-head-to-head-leagues-2021-22-are-live/).
The Head-to-Head Leagues option in the drop-down menu under the Community tab at the top of the FFS Home Page explains how to find your League and Division as well as your Fixtures and Results for each Gameweek. It also contains tables of each Division’s Total Points and Match Scores for the current Gameweek, all of which are updated every night. The Total Points tables can also be seen at the bottom of the right hand column on the FFS Home Page.

The current leader in League 1 is Dylan Penhallurick with 10 points. Dylan has had four top 6k finishes and is 73rd in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.
Four teams in League 2 (one of them belonging to MIR himself), five in League 3, ten in League 4, 28 in League 5, 49 in League 6, 80 in League 7, 205 in League 8 and 292 in League 9 are all on 12 points after four straight wins.

    ** LAST MAN STANDING

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).
The highest scorer in Gameweek 4 was Jack Ryan, who wildcarded for 97 points.
The safety score was 49, with 159 teams being removed and 2,576 going through to Gameweek 5 of the competition. It remains open till Gameweek 22, but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (Home - torresmagiclms.simplesite.com) to qualify.

    ** STRIKERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS

See Community Tournament Strikers Keepers, Losers Weepers Build up to the MVP Draft for the latest on this FFS Community team tournament organised by Boris Bodega and Greyhead. The results of the MVP draft will be announced on FPL Blackbox on Wednesday.

    ** TOPS AND VETS

Dirty Dave is the new leader of my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1378/standings/c, league code kgmryk) and has risen to 145th overall after his Wildcard returned 87 points. He has had one top 10k finish - 8,557th back in 2013/14.

Luke Willgoose is the new leader in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1386/standings/c, league code 03t1fd), which is for teams with two or more top 10,000 finishes. He finished 746th in 2012/13 and has also had three more top 10k finishes. He is currently 1,548th overall after wildcarding for 77 points.

Luke is also the new leader in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/10031/standings/c, league code 01ef8y).

Martin Gupta is the new leader in Jed Alexander’s Top 100 Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/194472/standings/c, league code pztxjt) and has risen to 9,610th overall without using his wildcard or any other chips. Between 2011/12 and 2014/15 he had three top thousand finishes in four seasons (46th, 307th and 212th), followed by a fourth top 10k finish in 2016/17.

2009/10 FPL champion Jon Reeson (Westfield Irons) leads Simon March’s FPL Champions League (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/2594/standings/c) for a fourth week.

He has finished in the top 10k on five occasions (including four top 2k finishes in five seasons between 2015/16 and 2019/20) and is 66th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

Shaun Moggan is the new leader in Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/25315/standings/c, league code hz9bz2) after his Wildcard returned 77 points. He has had five top 10k finishes.

He has had four previous top 10k finishes, is 139th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame, and is also top of League 2 Division 1 in the FFS Head-to-Head Leagues.

And Obay Eid (FPL_Milanista) has regained the outright lead in the FFS Family mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/342/standings/c), rising to 7,186th overall.

    FFS LIVE HALL OF FAME

The FFS Live Hall of Fame (which, unlike the FFS Career Hall of Fame, can only be viewed by Premium Members) was updated again after Gameweek 3, and 61,662 managers participating in the Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-leagues are now ranked in it.

Tom Stephenson is the new number one, swapping places with Pro Pundit Fabio Borges who slips to second.
Finn Sollie is still in third position and Morten Tveito still fourth.
Jon Ballantyne rises from seventh to fifth and Garry Murray (Sharky’s Machine) from eighth to sixth.

I've just been breaking down the standings in the Top 10k Finally league for regulars on here who are trying to break top 10k for the first time.

Impressive progress really if you consider that anything around 1 million is still perfectly competitive right now being just 70 points or so off. This time last year I was a cool 4.75 million OR and still had viable hopes of top 50 -100k anyway until the final stretch from GW30 on. So top 2 mill disappointing but scarcely disastrous.

Have to think multiple viable premiums are going to make this one more topsy turvy.

49 entrants (inc one dead team 🙂 )

    top 1k = 2
    top 10k = 3
    top 50k = 7
    top 100k = 10
    top 250k = 13
    top 500k = 21
    top million = 36
    top 1.5 million = 43
    top 2 million = 45

FFS thinking alive and well. Should be an interesting league to track with at least 40 still in it for the big prize of being evicted next season 🙂

Love it! I think this is the way forward. Personally I'd consider losing Shaw to fund Jimi > Antonio/Bamford, and prefer Duffy to Williams, but it's a strong squad.

Benrahma > Raph worth a -4 this week? I think it might be over the next few weeks with EL and Vlasic adding rotation risks...

    Salah, Jota, Benrahma, Traore
    Ronaldo, Antonio, Bamford

Antonio out means I need to start Benrahma and Williams (Norwich) this week.

He was injured beforehand. Seems a good bet to play - new signing, brought in to start straight away as soon as he’s fit.

Worth wildcarding this team? This is what I would have to field this week:

    Sanchez (Steele)
    TAA Digne Shaw Ayling (Livramento)
    Salah Jota Raphinha Benrahma (Brownhill)
    Ronaldo Dennis (Antonio)

    0 FT 1.8 ITB

I don’t expect any clean sheets for Everton or Leeds which is a particular problem and don’t expect anything from Benrahma….

I don’t think that is WC worthy, maybe a -4 for Benrahma if you are desperate to get rid (eg if he plays 90 in EL midweek)

Rough with the Smooth, Gameweek 4.

    How did your Gameweek go?

Did you get a big green or red arrow? Did you play your wildcard or take a hit? Were you rejoicing or despairing as the goals wemnt in from CR7 and Lukjaku?

You can share your tales of joy and woe here.

Rough - took an 8 point hit.
Smooth - out went Son, Vardy and DLC. In came Jota, Ronaldo and Lukaku.
Still dropped a few places, but got off lightly, I reckon.

Rage transferred out Barnes > Torres before the GW was done. Then Ronaldo got his move to Manchester United, and I couldn’t bring myself to take a -8 to get him in.

Every one in my ML brought him in and captained him. I dropped a lot of places as a result.

About the only smooth was Bruno scoring to soften the Ronaldo blow!

Wildcarded from within the top 10k - old team would have got 51, new team got 91.

Biggest win was a late decision to pick Marcal over Coady for my 4.5m Wolves defender, and for this week the correct selection of premiums (Salah, Lukaku, CR7) was the 3 I went for.

Within top 5k OR now, and very happy with how I’m set up going forward!

Used my WC. Kept Antonio (sensible) In came DCL (sensible) We all know the outcome. Seems very little left in the mid range forward category. Bamford yes. Jimenez form. Antonio red card and Europe. DCL Injury. Wilson Injury. The rough this week is one thing, to come is another. A common thread I think.

      Rough:
      - My three forwards (Antonio, Pukki and Dennis) managed a grand total of two points between them.
      - Mahrez benched again.

      Smooth:
      - The rest of my team scored 68, with the only other blank coming from Benrahma, and I'm into the top 100k for the first time this season.
Veltman auto-subbed for Mahrez with a useful six points.

Took a hit that just barely paid off to get Jota, Semedo and Lukaku for Bruno, Tsimikas and Ings but happier with my team going forward.

Smooth would be Lukaku captain and a small green arrow despite the hit.

Rough would be that I didn't bother taking another hit to take Wilson out as I was quite confident in Webster getting a clean sheet but he got injured in the first half costing me another 5 points with Livramento next up on the bench. Those 5 points would have probably halved my rank but not too badly set up for the coming weeks.

A decent week on paper. In practice my transfers were a big fail.

      Wildcarded.

Smooth: CR7 and finished around average for the week, my highly owned assests mostly performed.

      Rough:

Held on to two free transfers all week to bring in Ronaldo (c) and Traore, happy enough to play Veltman at the back.

Decided in the last hour instead to captain Bruno, bench Veltman and bring in Dier and Jiménez.

Ultimately cost me 17 points and a would be 20k rank to finish 120k instead.

Silky smooth... Fourth green arrow on the spin and up to 296k from 1.2m after GW1.

Brought in Ronaldo & Greenwood for Wilson & Bruno with 2 FT's. The injury forced my hand, and I didn't fancy anyone for a straight swap so it had to be Ronaldo. Deliberated between Jota, Torres and Sarr as my makeweight, but Greenwood seemed the most nailed and covered me against any lost Bruno points to a degree. He returned for me too so well happy there as the others didn't. Full house of returns at the back - Sanchez, Trent, Dias, Shaw, plus Salah, Greenwood and Ronaldo(c).

Rough... Antonio red, Rapha and Toney blanks.

      Smooth
77pts helped by Auba(c), Ronaldo, Salah, Gray, and my entire defense either keeping a clean sheet or getting an assist in Shaw's case making it a decent WC and giving me my 3rd green arrow in a row

Stones is always lurking, but Laporte has played very well so far and they have been keeping cleensheets so I can see him retaining his place for now but there will surely be rotation when games get congested. Dias or Cancelo (I feel he will be the best).

Another decent week with 84 points and Ronaldo(C) helping me out along with double Wolves defence. Surely now a red arrow is just around the corner, getting a nosebleed being up this high 😆

Not made up my mind as yet what to do with DCL, but he will be leaving my team before Antonio does, that's for sure.

Maybe DCL ➡️ Bamford is the move but we'll wait until the very last moment and sort something out 🙂

Whatever your moves and dilemmas this week, hope it all works out for you, and I'll no doubt catch you again with more next week.

    Have a good'un!!!

    G

Thanks G, great (early) call on Wolves DEF. Solid.

Semedo & Bamford for me this week 🙂

Thanks mate! I just thought there was no point in using it and still keeping Shaw so looked at that Wolves run and just thought I'd go with it! NGL at one point I did have White and Coady, so glad I decided to double up and took him out for Marcal. Let's see if they can keep it up 🙂

Nice moves to get those two in, who are you losing for Semedo? Shaw or Veltmann???

Was thinking Amartey. I'll keep Shaw and Veltman until WC in GW 7.

Can you check past season results and whether any teams are routinely overestimated? I remember United having a 10% odds uplift caused by the Asian markets.

The odds I provide don't include the Bookmakers 'markup' 🙂

Who scores more in next 3?
    A)Sarr ( nor new lee)
    B)gray/doucoure(avl nor min)

Logically it’s sarr because he’s the talisman,on pens, easier fixtures but Watford attack has been poor
I fear the points will be disturbed between gray and doucoure and their fixtures are significantly tougher.

Early thoughts on DCL replacements ? Thinking playing safe with 1) ?

    1) Bam
    2) Jim
    3) Jesus

    Also would you:

    A) Get rid of Tsim for Wolves def -4
    B) Play Duffy or Tsim
