My latest FPL Gameweek 8 Wildcard team: Foden, Son and Hwang in, Antonio out

A lot of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have pushed the Wildcard button, including me, so I thought it would be a good time to talk about my current draft after tinkering for about five days.

Please take note that this is a draft and I don’t know where I will be with my team when Gameweek 8 eventually arrives.

GOALKEEPERS

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Gameweek 7 Wildcard

Currently, my goalkeepers are Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) and Ben Foster (£4.0m). Foster currently sits in my team as the second ‘keeper because he’s the most likely starting £4.0m goalkeeper out of the other options but obviously, we don’t know for sure what the situation will be with Claudio Ranieri now at the helm.

The goalkeeper spot is one I’m struggling with the most at the moment. Ramsdale does look like he has the number one spot and it is between him, David Raya (£4.6m) and Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) for me. Arsenal with their new-look defence have looked fairly steady and like I mentioned last week in my article, we are not relying on the short sample size of this season alone. In the second half of last season, Mikel Arteta’s team were the fifth-best defence for expected goals conceded (xGC) in 2020/21. Also, Arteta does come across to me as a defence-first coach whereas the Bees might go out and play a little. I also like the look of defenders from Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford, who offer a slightly higher goal threat compared to the £4.5m options from Arsenal.

DEFENDERS

Jimenez ends goal drought as Arsenal claim convincing north London derby win 7

In my defence, Tino Livramento (£4.2m) picks himself because of Southampton going on a great run of fixtures. He has shown a lot in attack and the Saints have shown some newfound defensive resilience as well right now.

Curious wildcard. Can't help but feel there are a lot of cheapies forced in to make room for expensive players. How many captain picks are really needed?

I think it's fair question. 3 bigs does upset the balance with only 1 captain needed. More options the better tho. I personally have Salah and then a number of hail marry options. Sure be weeks where it will be a problem but gotta ride the streaks

Agreed! Especially neither Lukaku nor Son has really lit the word afire. I'm also suspect of Hwang, he has no history to speak of and a couple good games don't necessarily impress.

Lateriser plays an aggressive game. Rather than wait for bandwagons to roll and belatedly hop on board, he tries to anticipate the next big things. Like, nobody's got KDB yet, but he could be hauling big in the next few GWs. He ought to call himself 'Earlyriser' really.

Graeme Jones will immediately improve their tactical balance and keep them safe with a couple of modest winter signings. The high-profile manager and galacticos can wait until the summer.

Vaguely amused to see those names

Newcastle have an absolutely abysmal defence and a very dodgy midfield - essentially a weaker version of the same defence they’ve had for 4 years. To guarantee that they stay up they need to sort that out

It is always possible to go all Keegan and try and score 4 knowing you’ll concede 3.

Everton are surely a modern-day cautionary tale here.
Just having a ton of money doesn't guarantee anything, players still need to come and FFP prevents 'Galactico' hiring - it took City MANY years of trial, error and building to get to title challengers and that was before the regulations were so strict.

Everton have spent £500M+ in 4.5 years on transfers, but haven't really done as well yet as we did under the frugal Moyes years. Maybe Rafa will change that, but it is ironically the season we've spent virtually nothing and bought in Townsend, Gray and Rondon that we're looking our best for a while.

This is how I look for next GW with 1 FT, 0 ITB.

    Ramsdale
    Cancelo Azpi Rudiger
    Salah Son Raphinha Harrison
    Lukaku Antonio Jimenez

    Foster Livra Williams Brownhill

How does Azpi & Harrison > 3.9 defender & Foden for -4 sound? Exact money, wouldn't be able to do it for free next week because price changes.
In defense, it esentially means starting Livra instead of Azpi in the future. Livra has very nice fixtures and has imo higher attacking potential than Azpi. Is getting Foden for Harrison worth -4 in this case?

      just swap harrison for doucoure

Nah. I’d do nothing and assume Livra comes in for Raph if he misses.

Don’t see why you’d take a hit for Foden when you have a week bench and Raph potentially not starting.

Woof. Do not like that defense - who are your 4th and 5th!!

Yeah so so thin. KDB rests and then you’re into the garbage players.

If you want the 4x big guys then I guess this is it - but you know the risks.

I would do Mbuemo - probably over Gallagher.

And maybe do Semedo to a 4.5 (Henry) and then upgrade the 3.9 to Duffy. Got 4x viable starting defenders then to play fixtures with.

Is olise finally going to start now? Surely Viera can’t keep trying to force poor Ayew to play like a premier league player. Olise was class when he came on Vs Leicester wouldn’t mind a punt on him as an 8th attacker at 5.4m

                        I don't know, am I being obtuse?

Looks like I (and others) have answered essentially the same question repeatedly, yet we keep being asked the same thing in a slightly different way. I'm really not clear what you're trying to get at or what you are looking for?

I am sorry to disappoint, but there is no conspiracy theory here.

We do not 'sell' or 'give' user's information to third parties. What is it that you think is happening?

      Hi there Caveat King,

Whilst I must caveat that I'm not a massive fan of ultimatums and prefer friendly discourse, I will make an exception for a fellow toffee.

1+2) I can unequivocally state that we have absolutely no interest in Fantasy Football Hub and do not share information with them. Heck, we don't even talk or exchange Xmas cards. They are a distinct, competing entity.

We did invest a small amount to help support Fantasy Football Fest, as we think it can be a cool thing for the community, and Hub did also invest in that (as did Fix). However, we are very much in the background and this is an independent company that we do not control and do not decide who can/cannot be involved. No data is shared between FFS and Fest.

      3) As previously outlined in a statement on Twitter, we do not share any user data with any third party for marketing purposes or otherwise. The only marketing activities we carry out with partners are those which you can clearly see in relevant stories on the site or social media, video channels, etc.

      4) Not applicable really, as none of the above points are true

      Hope that helps!
P.S. I also hope that the wheels don't fall off the Rafa revolution!

Is everyone bored by the lack of football this weekend? On balance I think I prefer the RMTs !!!

I'm genuinely not sure what you're talking about fella and although I do like a bit of banter and enjoy a spot of amateur Columbo as much as the next man, sadly I have to pop out with my family shortly so will have to leave you to it for now.

Naturally, if you do have an issue you want to raise or some specific allegation you'd like to make, please do contact us directly and share it so we can investigate. As always, we will look into it and respond.

Well that is an appropriate and succinct response. All I have been asking during today is a decent response and you have put my mind at rest. I must say however, my comments are not brought on for gossip mongering. There are sites out there that do point fingers at FFS and others, who make out there has been a level of collusion.
There is no ultimatum, try frustration. As far as Twitter is concerned I would never and will not use it. So anything discussed on Twitter is irrelevant from my perspective.
I am obviously miffed about money leaving my bank account without being advised initially. This is a separate subject altogether but the fact it could be done means my personal details you clearly have.
Fantasy Fest I have no idea what this is. I would like to know more about this association.
Anyway, once again, thank you for your response. I am not the only one out there who is apprehensive about this news. I believe what you say and I hope you can guarantee my personal security with the information you have.
        Regards, A fellow Toffee.

          Thanks for that.

I'd be genuinely interested to know more about the sites pointing fingers at collusion, if you were inside FFS towers you'd understand how laughable it is that we'd be co-operating with the 'noisy neighbours' on anything much, let alone dubious shenanigans. It'd be a bit like us popping over to Anfield to discuss the finer points of strategy and future transfer plans!

afternoon all, hope you're having a good Saturday - anything worth a hit here or GTG? nothing in the bank, 0 FT and no wildcard remaining (played gw 4). potentially thinking jota or Sarr out for a hit ?

    Bachman
    taa Rudiger cancelo
    salah rap sarr jota
    armstrong Antonio Ronaldo

Huh? What Sarr got to do with Raph risk?

Raph is almost a must have, especially in gw10 (nor) but not in gw8 where he might not play due to Brazil's fixtures. Sarr otoh is a hold imo

Because my move this week was to get Sarr out and get one of Raph/Saka in. Sarr's got some really tough fixtures coming up

Aah I see. Fwiw I'm keeping Sarr because Liv could be without The Brazilian called up duo, plus new manager bounce possibility and he actually got good record against Liv.

Decent move you made there btw, just try to fit in Raph in gw10

I know some will be thinking of ‘playing Raph incase be starts’ but aren’t you worried he will cameo ?

Say he gets 60 or 30 mins for Brazil I could see him not starting then getting 15-20 mins if they are a goal down

For this reason I’m kind of tempted to start livramento ahead of Him

    What do you think?

I totally understand this. Much harder than it looks.

If I were you, I'd based my decision on which one would pissed me off more, benching Livra and he gets a cleanie, or benching Raph and he still get the points despite making a cameo.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez: "Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard. They're not in best conditions to play. They're leaving the national team camp due to these problems - I don't know how long it will take

Perhaps I'm just cynical but feel odds are he'd be feeling much better if they had beaten France and were going to play a final instead of a pointless 3rd place game 😉

Am a lukaku owner and he will probably start against Brentford. Crazy things. Clubs have taken risk with the players but not on the internationals. A slight hint of injury or something then boom return to club take rest and get ready for the next club match.

Wow! Tell me about it. With so many on this site with so much to say, I find it amazing how one has to pull teeth on the subject. People on Hub were idiots or crooks. I will settle with idiots for the time being. Cheers mate.

    Hi All

What are your thoughts on Laporte and Walker, will they be regulars or prone to the 'odd' rotation?

      Better value elsewhere

I am only considering Dias/Cancelo. Not worth taking risk with those 2 for their price imo.

The whole team except Dias and ederson is prone to rotation

Walker is fairly well nailed. But Laporte may be swapped out for stones soon enough
