Joe, Seb and Andy help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 13.

This week, the Scoutcast crew tackle the myths of Fantasy Premier League management as they look ahead to the weekend’s games and keep a watchful eye on upcoming festive fixture congestion.

Never make an early transfer. Don’t captain a defender. Avoid handing the armband to a player in the Saturday lunchtime fixture. These are among the myths put forward by the community under consideration in this episode.

Should such mythical notions be consigned to the dustbin?

In addition, each of our intrepid Scoutcast adventurers takes a myth that has annoyed them over the years to task.

For Seb, the notion that FPL managers require differentials is in need of a rethink. This chat takes in issues around combinations of highly owned players being different enough.

Meanwhile, Joe wonders whether reports of the demise of 3-4-3, due to the proliferation of excellent attacking options at the back, may be a myth. He puts forward the case for three strikers up top and still limiting budget in defence.

As news broke of an injury to Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell (£6.0m) towards the end of the stream, many may certainly be reconsidering investing heavily in their rearguard.

For Andy, he tackles the mythical money-saving merits of drafting in a non-playing cheap asset, especially with Christmas rotation on the horizon. He asks, is Aston Villa’s benchwarmer Keinan Davis (£4.4m) a myth?

Elsewhere, there are fixtures to frisk, transfer plans to ponder and captaincy plans to discuss.

They also reveal their differentials to consider, for those who still believe in the rank climbing powers of a low-owned gem.

Don't see what all the fuss is about.

        1 game out - keep
2-3 games out - keep unless you have spare transfer
4+ games out - swap for Alonso

When the replacement is basically just as good (FPL wise) and similarly priced it hardly makes a difference.

In fact (whisper this) a long term injury could be just what we need to combat Xmas rotation.

Was set on Reguilon but after Chilwell’s injury, I think I prefer Alonso. But it would mean triple Chelsea.

On both players, I’d wait - Raphinha has great fixtures and is a talisman for Leeds & Chilwell may only be out for one or two games.. and I’m sure you have a bench & would a replacement get you your 4 hit points back & your lost TV??

Not sure Raph's fixtures are as good as they look. Brighton, Palace & Brentford are all within the lowest 7 xGC so far this season. Then after that Leeds play CHE, MCI, ARS, LIV in a row.

It frustrates me that I have exact funds to do Chilwell + Vardy > Alonso + Kane (2FTs) if Chilly is out long-term, however, I wouldn't be able to do this transfer because people will move early, cause price changes, and I will be priced out...

Of the opinion that Burnley, Norwich, and Brentford are the perfect opposition for him to get a few goals under his belt. Spurs have not exactly impressed, but worth taking the risk imo. Also, an easy switch to Ronaldo afterwards.

Biggest myth is money is wasted on the bench. Sure, there's times when efficiency wins, but it's increasingly less often imo. Certainly I've turned my season round and climbed 1.5m to a totally respectable position directly via all the advantages of a 4/5.5/6.5 bench

At the very least we have never seen any serious kind of attempt at a longitudinal analysis of what can be achieved.

        1. GreennRed

Depends on the strength of your 11 . If 0.5m extra on a 5th defender or 2nd keeper could give you an upgrade in your 11 for more points then it's wasted on the bench.

          It’s Been true of late

I’ve been doing well in my ml and have a decent OR thanks to a strong bench over the last few weeks

This week I have antonio livra and gilmour on the bench but all 3 might be needed, means I don’t need to take a hit

Antonio, Wilson and Livra bench warming this week. Raph, Gallagher and Pukki fielded in good fixtures and with a back 4 of chill, canc, taa and James you just know there's at least a 50% chance that you'll be calling on one, before you consider injuries. Extremely happy to be going into this run through to new year with a good rotation and already planning for gw16 onward without another premium in my mind. What's the point when Salah is so utterly locked c

Kinda helps when the only premiums getting points regularly are Salah and Mane so we can afford a decent bench.

Yep - I've had some frustratingly high bench scores over the last 4 GWs (17, 29!, 20, 15), but in the same period I've climbed from 244k > 14k.

So, while leaving Ramsdale on the bench for his heroics against Leicester, or not predicting Gallagher's 13-pointer against Man City away are always going to happen, having a strong 15 that can rotate seems to be really paying off this year.

        Appreciate some help!

        2FT, 0.0ITB

        Sanchez
        TAA, James, Chilwell, Cancelo
        Salah, Son, Gallagher, ESR
        Kane, Toney

        Steele. Hwang, Livra, Brownhill

Planning on doing Chilwell to Alonso, but would you also do Son to Jota?

        Any other suggestions?

Surely keep Son for these upcoming fixtures?

What I was thinking. The Spurs double up has not paid off so far

I didn't realise you have the spurs double-up. Tough one especially with Burnley have Tarkowski and Westwood suspended for the weekend. I would be leaning towards keeping Son

Hudson-Odoi is another replacement for Chilwell, I just remembered. But surely it will be Alonso who starts in Chilwells absence.

Alonso started every game at the start of the season when CHO was on the bench.

Pulisic was used there once in preseason too, right?

This will be asked a million times but Alonso or Rudiger?

I have James and a deep bench to cover rotation.

Pretty set on rolling the transfer this week, fairly happy with how the team is set up:

        Guaita
        James, TAA, Cancelo, Reguilon
        Salah (C), Gundogan, ESR
        Kane (vc), Wilson, Pukki

        Gunnarsson, Gallagher, Bowen, Livramento
