Mark Sutherns’ Double Gameweek 21 reaction and transfer plans

Andy North and Mark Sutherns are back once again for another Friday night Members-only video.

This episode arrives just a couple of hours after the Premier League’s fixture announcement which presented a Double Gameweek for three teams and, not surprisingly, that provides the main talking points.

Both Andy and Mark reveal their current line-ups and their potential transfers and captain selections as they look to exploit the two fixtures.

They also throw forward to Gameweek 22, when we’re expecting another set of doubles, with the pair talking through their Free Hit strategy.

You can watch their latest offering via the embedded video below:

    A. Laporte

Why do I feel like Everton & West Ham defences are traps waiting to happen

It very much feels that way, but I’m still getting roped in!

With Everton having not played recently I think I’m forgetting how bad their defence is.

Looking at bringing in Keane and Pickford (he will be backup to Ramsdale most weeks).

Think I’m gonna do B. More so because I’m sick of having 4 big at the back and having benching headaches with attackers. Dawson for the doubles and then cheap enough to bench to play a 3-5-2

It definitely looks good for this week, but do you want 6 Everton and West Ham players longer term. I think 4 would be enough for the double. DCL is one I would move on because he’s unlikely to play both games anyway as just returning to fitness.

Given the fixtures, i don't mind it. Gray would be a rotational bench option or even swapped with Martinelli at some point. Pickford, likewise.

Could do with advice - which mid to move for Bowen.

    a/ Foden (covid rumors)
    b/ Gundogan (rotation)
    c/ Gallagher (illness?)
    d/ Martinelli

c/ and d/ will be funded by James > Johnson. (Which I’ll probably do regardless).

FH22 is the plan so doubles then matter less to me than long term fixtures.

Tough one really. If you do B and then A doesn’t play, you lose any City attack. (I think Gundo is nailed for the next one)
C or D for me. Gallagher looking unlikely to start so probably C.

      Thanks guys!

I’m leaning Martinelli due to long term fixtures (and blanks for Arsenal).

Could go either way, but I’m leaning towards Keane over Dawson. I think both defences are a risk, but Everton at least have most of their key starters unlike West Ham.

Everton may also have another double next GW.

to elaborate - Cresswell could be back as early as the 2nd game and then he goes back to fighting Coufal for the right back spot (I'd expect Coufal to win that despite Johnson having taken games off him this season)

Thanks, he's been out a while already though - I think it's still fair to say he's not nailed though guess it depends on the timescale the OP wants to know whether he's nailed for. Think we've given him a fair idea though there's at least a bit of uncertainty beyond the short term.

He’s been first choice when fit for most of the season. Coufal ain’t been good. Masuaka is a liability. Cresswell has a bone chip in his back apparently which could take a while to mend.

I’m happily bringing Johnson in this week I think.

      1. Gabbiadini
        • 6 Years
        2 years, 2 months ago

        Yes, this is correct.
Performance-wise this season, Johnson has been a better performer than Coufal.
The only reason he went out of the side the other week was because of injury.

West Ham having a PL opponent, Leeds in round 3 of the FA Cup poses an element of risk as to whether players are given a rest in this fixture or the PL fixture that follows, Norwich.

    What are people's thoughts?

    1. RogDog_jimmy
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 2 months ago

I think Moyes focuses on the league. We got Europe to get a trophy in - FA Cup is a bridge too far I feel.

As an aside - we got screwed with cup fixtures. MU, MC the Tot in the Carabao - now Leeds in FA. Couldn’t get is a random easy team!

      1. Gabbiadini
        • 6 Years
        2 years, 2 months ago

Yes, your cup fixtures have been unbelievably tough.
You'd probably also expect Leeds to rotate heavily, given their league position and size of squad they probably wouldn't mind not having the extra fixture(s).

Would you risk doing Foden/James>Son/Diop tonight for a -4?

    Otherwise be James>Coufal

Bench would be Gallagher, Livra & Luiz

How guaranteed do we think Martinelli is of starting vs Man City? I’m thinking Smith Rowe might be brought back in

I just logged on. I saw there are rumors of Foden and Firmino having Covid? Any others? Any idea how reliable the sources are?

Allison maybe. No credible source has been mentioned other than the Pool players missed training (apparently)

Just to confirm, if Matty Cash gets booked in this weeks game, he'll miss the FA Cup game & not GW22 right?

      Not sure that's correct.

Yes, here is the very example.
Salisu picked up a red card against Tottenham, his suspension will be served against Swansea in the FA Cup.
KWP picked up his 5th yellow against Tottenham, however, his suspension must be served in the next PL game (Brentford).
