We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from West Ham United v Burnley in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-improving website (which now has a new look!), and our own Premium Members Area.

WEGHORST ON TARGET

Burnley began life without Sean Dyche with a point at West Ham after an action-packed encounter in east London.

The Clarets went ahead in the first half through Wout Weghorst (£6.4m) before Maxwel Cornet (£5.9m) missed a penalty, although they were indebted to Nick Pope (£5.4m) for a series of excellent late saves to preserve the point.

For Weghorst, the towering Dutchman had a decent first half and was much more involved than he had been in previous outings, as he ended a run of eight successive blanks by scoring his second Premier League goal.

Under the interim guidance of Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, Burnley set up in a familiar 4-4-2 formation that appeared to favour a more possession-based approach, with Cornet (no 20) particularly advanced down the Clarets’ left.

Above: Burnley’s average position map v West Ham in Gameweek 33

Matthew Lowton (£4.4m), meanwhile, retained his place in the starting XI at right-back ahead of Connor Roberts (£4.4m), who was introduced as a substitute shortly after the hour mark.

“Lowts (Lowton) hasn’t had a lot of game time recently, so he was struggling, and it was a hot day as well. We went like for like with Connor (Roberts). Then they get a goal back and you think ‘are we going to go safe here or do we go for it? We put Vyds (Vydra) on, and he’s coming back after injury, so we went for it rather than sit back.” – Mike Jackson on replacing Matthew Lowton after 62 minutes

Now, focus switches to Thursday’s home clash against Southampton, which forms the second part of both team’s Gameweek 33 double-headers.

“I think it is a good point for us. We did really well in the first half and had the penalty miss. It’s a terrific result and we had the incident with Ash (Westwood) as well which affected the group.

Max (Cornet) had taken the penalty and missed it and we move on. He had another chance later on. These things happen.

It was an amazing save (from Nick Pope). It’s why he plays for England.”

WESTWOOD INJURY LATEST

On the injury front, Burnley are waiting for news on Ashley Westwood (£5.2m), with the midfielder having gone to hospital after sustaining a serious injury in the first-half.

Mike Jackson was unable to confirm the nature of the injury, which saw Westwood require oxygen on the pitch, but it is expected to be a season-ending problem.

“He’s gone to hospital and we’re waiting for an update. We’re hoping he’s OK – our thoughts are with him. You could see it wasn’t good from the reaction of the players. He looked distraught, but fingers crossed.

When you see Declan Rice come over and say it’s not good, you know it’s not. The lad himself put his hand up, and he doesn’t usually go down.

It could be the end of his season, but there is a squad here ready to play. Josh Brownhill came in and has done really well.” – Mike Jackson on Ashley Westwood’s injury

WASTEFUL ANTONIO

Following Sunday’s blank, Michail Antonio (£7.5m) has now gone 13 Premier League games without a goal, his longest drought since he went 14 matches without scoring in 2018.

The Jamaican forward took up some decent positions and caused problems for Burnley’s backline, but was far too wasteful as he failed to hit the net from seven shots which included one ‘big chance’.

The Hammers, who looked a little jaded at times following their Europa League clash on Thursday, were second best for much of the opening 45 minutes but improved after the break, with David Moyes cutting a frustrated figure after full-time.

“Their goalkeeper made a couple of great saves but, in truth, we should have killed the game off. Even the couple near the end, we had great chances to seal it. Maybe you’d say we had a bit of ill-fortune, but we needed a win today and it’s disappointing we didn’t get it.

We need Michail Antonio’s goals because if you’re going to challenge and you want to be at the top, you need to take your opportunities when you make them. Today, we didn’t take our opportunities.

We had a great chance and we’ve not taken it. Today was a great opportunity for us and we’ve let that go. I’m gutted with that and I’ve not got a great deal to say about it.” – David Moyes

West Ham United XI: Fabianski, Johnson, Dawson, Diop, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Lanzini (Fornals 79), Vlasic (Benrahma 65), Antonio

Burnley XI: Pope, Lowton (Roberts 62), Collins, Tarkowski, Taylor, McNeil (Vydra 79), Westwood (Brownhill 30), Cork, Cornet, Rodriguez, Weghorst

Can city double still go to 36 now?

    Here’s my early setup with 2FT and 0.5itb. BB36 FH37
What moves do you suggest? Nothing stands out to me
Kane to Ronaldo or just hold now? I said I wasn’t going to own Ronaldo all season but maybe worth the switch. Also feels like chasing after a hatty!

    Schmeichel
    Robbo Laporte Matip Rudiger
    Salah Saka Havertz Maddison
    Kane Pukki
    Foster Kulu White Cucho

Cucho to Mateta before 36 is on the cards

Good team considering no WC. Not much to do with 1 FT.
      Think Ron is points chasing.
      Maybe play Kulusevski over Matip.

Actually - You may as well just do Cucho to Mateta this GW as they’ll both no doubt be affected by price changes.

Have 2FT but can’t see the right move and don’t want to burn one.
Wc’d in 31 and just sold Weg for Pukki last week, was going to bench him anyway.
Agree re points chasing and United better at home which they don’t have as many games.
Need some differentials with bb36 in mind

Hmm Cucho to Mateta costs me 0.3 but not super urgent.
Would probably have to downgrade Matip to do it.
Maybe Maddison given the uncertainty even though fixtures are good

Saturday was the worst I have ever felt playing FPL...

10:56 - I was about to bring in Ronaldo and captain him, all the moves were in place I just had to confirm. It was the move I had planned all pre-deadline as with Pogba in the pivot now Fred and Mctominay were out Bruno would be more defensive to help Pogba as has been proven this and last season.

10:57 - SamuelMartin a usual reliable ITK on twitter, tweeted that Ronaldo might not be playing today and also backs it up by him quote tweeting the united ITK Oddsonfpl.

10:58 - Last minute change the transfer plan and don't get in Ronaldo, instead get Bruno and captain, as 1, these sources have been very reliable in the past, I don’t want to have a non-playing captain and 2, Bruno returns this season have been much better without Ronaldo.

So then of course I am punished to the max.

It just hurts more than usual as I had decided all week I preferred Ronaldo and was minutes from confirming, only to be put off by an incorrect leak, which means I have gone from getting into the top10k with Ronaldo captain to probably not gonna make it this season after a Bruno blank up to 20k!

Of course there was variance, as Ragnick made it even worse for Bruno by starting Lingard, but still Ronaldo was always the better play with Pogba pivot and I knew that pre-deadline, yet last minute misinformation changed my plan... Live by the ITK sword, die by the sword.

Sorry about the outcome but you only have yourself to blame.

That 'leak' was not really a leak. It's just someone's FPL team.

I know plenty of United fans who went without Ronaldo this week on FH just because they thought Ronaldo wouldn't do well.

Also, if OddsOnFPL knew Ronaldo wouldn't start, he'd just tell us. It made zero sense that Ronaldo wouldn't start vs Norwich and there were very few other rumors about him missing out too.

You gotta be able to separate the wheat from the chaff if you play the Twitter ITK game.

yup I agree it is me to blame and not disagreeing.

I think I just was scarred by previous in the season when I had Ronaldo and everyone had Bruno for that last double.. ronaldo had an undisclosed injury, was benched and Bruno went on to score a brace against Villa.

So I panicked and trusted an uncertain leak, just a shame that sam martin guy was just speculating himself and trying to get people off ronaldo rather than any substance.

I doubt Sam Martin was trying to screw anyone over, he's very reliable for Leicester news and was just trying to help out others with what he assumed was good info.

Well why else would he tweet twice minutes before the deadline that Ronaldo might be benched?
No reason other then to make people uncertain and sht stir.

“why else would he tweet twice minutes before the deadline that Ronaldo might be benched?”

Because, as with all things Twitter, he wants attention/to be noticed

If you think that people are like that then I don't understand why you'd follow any ITKs as you wouldn't deem them trustworthy. Not saying all are but I just don't see how much he'd gain from it. I've had a look and he literally said when posting the team "Read in to that what you want."

                • 5 Years

If he was just reading into a tweet and making an assumption based on no info that is not ITK, that is baseless opinion, big difference.

Should have just stayed quiet if had no info himself on ronaldo instead of causing panic mins before deadline.

Oddly, I'm having trouble picking a starting GK on WC. They only need to cover GWs 34,35 and 38. Because I'll start Foster in 36 and FH37.

    Who would you pick up?

    Sanchez - SOU wol WHU
    Forster - bha CRY lei
Dubravka - nor LIV bur (can play Foster for the Liverpool fixture who has BUR)
    Guaita - LEE sou MUN

They're all sort of viable. Genuinely not sure who to go. Dubravka actually is surprisingly tempting. Newcastle defense is decent. I can play Foster in the LIV game and make use of the rotation. Is this overthinking?

    1. Danstoke82

If I end up going Dubravka I'll have lost 0.1m by not buying him before his price rise a few nights ago!

Didn't even think he could be the best option since he has LIV and mci in his last 5 games but turns out when rotating with Foster he could actually be the best option...

Crazy. Very interesting to do full rotation and theoretical lineups for the rest of the season. The finish line is so close!

Yo DZ, I have two free transfers and want to bring in three Chelsea players:

    1) Lacazette, Doherty, Gabriel -> Werner, James and Alonso (-4)
    2) Lacazette, Doherty, Gabriel and Sa -> Werner, James, Rudiger and a bench fodder gk (-8)

So basically, can I trust Alonso or do I take an extra hit to bring in Rudiger?

So you recommend not going double Chelsea defence long term?

This is how I’m set up:

        Dubravka Sa

I’ve been on the bad side of James twice so I won’t go back. Currently own Rudiger Havertz
If you trust James he’s a good option

Would downgrade Weg to Mateta especially if you’ve used BB
Arsenal defence looking shaky so maybe Gabriel out plus Doherty tooth.
Laca to Werner decent differential too if you want to go there

Just watched NEW v LEI on delay. Not seen the stats but i reckon Wood had 5 touches in 60 mins. Not gonna lie, I am slightly disappointed with my decision to captain him!

True. My VC was Kane so if anything should be happy lol. Just a bit annoyed by 1,1,2,2,1,1,2, 2(C),2,2,2,4. Ha ha. Bigger problems in the world though. Also good to see someone from the earlier years of Scout, hope you are well!

Comment about 9 hours late (always watch on delay!) but Ref Anthon Taylor's decision to give Havertz a yellow for the cheat (rather than the pen) was as good a refereeing as you will see. Good man!

Would you start to ditch Arsenal defence especially planning for BB36?
Not the easiest run and face LEE tot in 36
    Own White and Saka
    Maybe Brentford defender

Can’t really see which moves to make this week?
    BB36 FH37

    Schmeichel
    Robbo Laporte Rudiger Matip
    Salah Saka Havertz Maddison
    Kane Pukki
    Foster Kulu White Cucho

Will aim for Cucho to Mateta before 36

I'd recommend a Mount or Havertz if you're planning on getting rid of Sancho at least they are both doubling.

If you're low on cash but still want a Chelsea mid, Ruben Loftus-Cheek at 5.4 might be worth considering, in view of the injury to Kovacic. But it is still a punt.

Anyone worried about Mateta especially as a BB player in gw36/37?

Viera plays 4-3-3 with Gallagher Schlupp abd Koyate in mid

Zaha is nailed. So its leaves other two spots between Mateta Ayew Olise Benteke Edoaurd Eze

It’s a concern, but cautiously optimistic. Will personally hold off on getting him until his situation is more clear. Hold if you own him.

Yeah thing is Viera is not afraid to rotate and will do so according to form or type of game. Just look what happened to Eduoard

    Strategy question.

2 Freehits and 1 TC left. I read you can't play Freebies back to back in successive game weeks so I'm thinking FH GW 36 > TC GW 37 > FH GW 38.

    Thought?

I have 2 FH and TC and WC left, thinking of doing similar and using WC next GW to get Chelsea and Utd..
But there are no stand out TC 37....ALSO Man Utd blank.

What about TC next week for Chelsea player James, Havertz or Mount

Depends on your team, but I don't see a worthy TC in GW37, unless it's confirmed Man City DGW.

Managed to fit majority of the players that I wanted... Foster is the only issue, but budget constraints means I have got only 4.2 left for GK, overall looks solid and different though.

    Foster
    Cancelo, James, Cash
    Son, Sterling, Mount, Havertz
    Kane, Richarlison, Dennis

    Sterling captain vs Watford
    Kane vs Leicester
Richarlison or Chelsea players in DGWs

    Probably going to FH38
