We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from West Ham United v Burnley in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-improving website (which now has a new look!), and our own Premium Members Area.

WEGHORST ON TARGET

Burnley began life without Sean Dyche with a point at West Ham after an action-packed encounter in east London.

The Clarets went ahead in the first half through Wout Weghorst (£6.4m) before Maxwel Cornet (£5.9m) missed a penalty, although they were indebted to Nick Pope (£5.4m) for a series of excellent late saves to preserve the point.

For Weghorst, the towering Dutchman had a decent first half and was much more involved than he had been in previous outings, as he ended a run of eight successive blanks by scoring his second Premier League goal.

Under the interim guidance of Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, Burnley set up in a familiar 4-4-2 formation that appeared to favour a more possession-based approach, with Cornet (no 20) particularly advanced down the Clarets’ left.

Above: Burnley’s average position map v West Ham in Gameweek 33

Matthew Lowton (£4.4m), meanwhile, retained his place in the starting XI at right-back ahead of Connor Roberts (£4.4m), who was introduced as a substitute shortly after the hour mark.

“Lowts (Lowton) hasn’t had a lot of game time recently, so he was struggling, and it was a hot day as well. We went like for like with Connor (Roberts). Then they get a goal back and you think ‘are we going to go safe here or do we go for it? We put Vyds (Vydra) on, and he’s coming back after injury, so we went for it rather than sit back.” – Mike Jackson on replacing Matthew Lowton after 62 minutes

Now, focus switches to Thursday’s home clash against Southampton, which forms the second part of both team’s Gameweek 33 double-headers.

“I think it is a good point for us. We did really well in the first half and had the penalty miss. It’s a terrific result and we had the incident with Ash (Westwood) as well which affected the group.

Max (Cornet) had taken the penalty and missed it and we move on. He had another chance later on. These things happen.

It was an amazing save (from Nick Pope). It’s why he plays for England.”

WESTWOOD INJURY LATEST

On the injury front, Burnley are waiting for news on Ashley Westwood (£5.2m), with the midfielder having gone to hospital after sustaining a serious injury in the first-half.

Mike Jackson was unable to confirm the nature of the injury, which saw Westwood require oxygen on the pitch, but it is expected to be a season-ending problem.

“He’s gone to hospital and we’re waiting for an update. We’re hoping he’s OK – our thoughts are with him. You could see it wasn’t good from the reaction of the players. He looked distraught, but fingers crossed.

When you see Declan Rice come over and say it’s not good, you know it’s not. The lad himself put his hand up, and he doesn’t usually go down.

It could be the end of his season, but there is a squad here ready to play. Josh Brownhill came in and has done really well.” – Mike Jackson on Ashley Westwood’s injury

WASTEFUL ANTONIO

Following Sunday’s blank, Michail Antonio (£7.5m) has now gone 13 Premier League games without a goal, his longest drought since he went 14 matches without scoring in 2018.

The Jamaican forward took up some decent positions and caused problems for Burnley’s backline, but was far too wasteful as he failed to hit the net from seven shots which included one ‘big chance’.

The Hammers, who looked a little jaded at times following their Europa League clash on Thursday, were second best for much of the opening 45 minutes but improved after the break, with David Moyes cutting a frustrated figure after full-time.

“Their goalkeeper made a couple of great saves but, in truth, we should have killed the game off. Even the couple near the end, we had great chances to seal it. Maybe you’d say we had a bit of ill-fortune, but we needed a win today and it’s disappointing we didn’t get it.

We need Michail Antonio’s goals because if you’re going to challenge and you want to be at the top, you need to take your opportunities when you make them. Today, we didn’t take our opportunities.

We had a great chance and we’ve not taken it. Today was a great opportunity for us and we’ve let that go. I’m gutted with that and I’ve not got a great deal to say about it.” – David Moyes

West Ham United XI: Fabianski, Johnson, Dawson, Diop, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Lanzini (Fornals 79), Vlasic (Benrahma 65), Antonio

Burnley XI: Pope, Lowton (Roberts 62), Collins, Tarkowski, Taylor, McNeil (Vydra 79), Westwood (Brownhill 30), Cork, Cornet, Rodriguez, Weghorst

If you're BB'ing with Crystal Palace players largely, is gw37 the stronger play?

Dgw Villa and Everton, but both away compared with Watford at home in gw36.

Which premium would you sell this week to fund Dalot to TAA….

    A. Son
    B. Salah
    C. Kane

Nobody seems to fancy Coutinho from the RMT and WC teams I have seen for the final few games of the season. Any reason? Villa have two DGW (36, 37) and some nice fixtures.

In gw37, especially on a FH.

Villa play Liverpool and Manchester City either side of that week and struggle against top 8 sides.

He's in my WC. Villa looked better 1st half vs Spurs. Don't play this week so aren't forefront in peoples minds. Norwich 35, double 36, double 37.

Is there more value in a FH34 into the Chelsea and Manchester United double?

Especially if you don't have many players from those teams.

Or another game week for the final FH chip?

Applying the logic that FH is more beneficial when there's a narrower range of opportunities to play into.

If City's DGW goes into GW37 then I will definitely FH that week as I only have Cancelo. Could also get Everton, Villa and possibly Palace players for that week. So it depends on City's DGW I guess.

If Chelsea don't rotate on Wednesday against us, then there will be some rotation in the DGW I'm sure and Man United probably won't get anything from both of their games. Don't see Fernandes/Ronaldo outscoring Salah/Kane at all.

The Manchester City double is enticing on first thought, but Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United away, with rotation may not be great.

Could be tight at Wolves and more goals at the London stadium. Kind of depends on the Real Madrid semi final games too.

        1. Qaiss

I don't think they would rotate because there is a one week gap of rest between GW36 and 37 for them. With the title being so close, I don't see it.

Also West Ham may have a Europa League final 3 days later and they will likely rotate, so could see City scoring a few.

is a premium back 5 overkill? OR is poor this season and trailing 60 pts in ML. I can downgrade Kane to watkins and play 5/4/1 for the rest of the season with this team and BB 36/37:
    Pope
    taa/robbo/cancelo/james/alonso
    foden/havertz/salah/kulu
    watkins
    B: foster / pukki / mateta / ramsey

They have a nice fixture in GW35 against Leicester, who will likely rotate heavily for their Semi Final and then play Liverpool in the DGW, plus Arsenal. They counter attack well in the big games. Burnley, then Norwich. Think it's risky to go without them but you still have a good team.

A free hit this week gives you the possibility of

    Havertz, Mount + 1
    Elanga, Ronaldo + 1

X 2. Effectively 12 games from 2 attack minded teams. Plus 5 other players from Manchester City (WAT), Liverpool home to Everton, Spurs at Brentford.

FH36 and 37 to less extent we'll all be blessed with double game week players.

That's got to be an opportunity. Also those who FH with 2 left this weel can't also take advantage next week.

Does that make sense? To play Free Hit gw34.

        Yeah, played my wildcard.

It's tricky to fit all those premiums in with a full budget. Wouldn't want to squeeze a squad v Scout picks gw34. There's a huge budget constraint.

Would you rather have Ronaldo or Kane on a FH34?

    No replies, so reposting.

    What would you do?

Current plan is Saka to Jota, and Ramsdale to Schmeichel or Mendy
A risky one would be Kane to Werner, Saka to Mane

    Ramsdale
    Robbo, Cancelo, Laporte, Justin, TSilva
    KDB, Maddison, Saka, Mount
    Kane
    Foster - Ramsay, Cucho, Fodder

    Thanks!

Saka is still showing positive signs but Jota always a good call.

I had Schmeichel earlier in the season and despite fixtures and some save points see v little clean sheet potential.

Is Werner going to remain constructive, I'm not confident in him yet.

        Thanks!

My confidence in Arsenal is not high, and I need an LFC player in.

Saka to Jota sound bad move, Jota minutes still not nailed, Saka could easily score against Utd defense

      B for the run in.

.... It's a tough call and despite Ronaldo's occasional hauls Kane consistency is better overall.

The last 10 games have seen 82 points for Kane and 49 for Ronaldo, albeit he missed a couple of those but that is part of the consistency point.

    A Saka to Mount
    B Cout to Havertz

On the FPL site it says Liverpool have a blank in GW 37 but on here it says they play Southampton. Anyone know which is true?

The Soton game will still be in GW37 - the original date for that fixture was Sunday 15 May but it had to be postponed due to Liverpool making the FA Cup final a day earlier. There'll probably be an announcement v soon about it moving to the midweek of GW37.

Is Jota still a high rotation risk?

Yes, but he can always score, and will come on every game if fit imo

When is Vardy back? Any news?

He has a nasty injury, not easy especially at his age. He already missed out every single return date so something is not right there.

I went KDB a couple weeks back.

      Mane/Jota for LFC.

Agree with this. Probably go Mane as my Liverpool premium for the run in.

So can we assume Alonso is back in favour now and will play the majority of remaining games.
I have a max budget of 5.5 so could get him in as a replacement for doc.

Lets go for Wc34 also bb36 and fh37 is my strategy also.

      - which goalkeepers?
      - ronaldo or no ronaldo
      - salah or kevin ?

That's one of the options I'm looking at as well, but if the City games is in DGW36 I may FH that GW, and BB GW37

GW36 BB Foster, White, Gordon, Dennis
GW37 BB Guiata, Ramsey, Gordon, Mateta

Ronaldo or not if my dilemma as well. I can get the team below for a -4 this GW, then WC35, or WC to a CR7 less team this GW

        Sanchez
        TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger
        Son, Havertz, Mount, Raph, Saka
        CR7, Watkins

Depends, but I have Rudiger and Havertz so I will wait for GW35.
        - GK: Schmeichel and Foster
        - Would wait for Liverpool-match for eye test
        - KDB

I have Ronaldo and Bruno, but Chelsea and Arsenal are not Norwich. Could probably use the money better on a WC.

To be fair he is playing well and seems to be in favour at the moment and was motm yesterday. If he starts again against Arsenal then Im having him in my WC. I think captaining him though is a step too far for me.

    Other chelsea is Rudiger.

I'd go with Mount, more likely to play and can be very explosive plus about 0.3 cheaper I think

    Current team for 34:

    Schmeichel Ramsdale
    Burn Schar Livra Trent Robertson
    Salah Saka Kulusevski Maddison Barnes
    Kane Weghorst Broja

    0.6m itb

    Team value of 101.7m

1ft and just one WC left out of all my chips.

Is 34 the week to WC?
