Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are looking to Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal for the Gameweek 7 captaincy, and as per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 7 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Erling Haaland (£12.0m) is the leader of the captain poll in Gameweek 7, with a mite over 40% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Behind in second is Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), who is backed by just over a quarter of those polled ahead of his home tie against Wolves.

Gabriel Jesus (£8.1m) occupies third place with 7.23%, followed by Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) and Pascal Gross (£6.0m), with 5.11% and 2.52% respectively.

THE MAIN CANDIDATES

FPL pre-season: De Bruyne stars as Haaland misses out

ERLING HAALAND/KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Erling Haaland made FPL history by breaking the single Gameweek captaincy record in Gameweek 6 and scored his 10th Premier League goal in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa to repay masses of armband backers.

The Norwegian has effectively broken Fantasy Premier League and Haaland’s underlying goal threat numbers are his piece de resistance.

The Nordic marksman has recorded 24 shots inside the box, 14 big chances received, and an expected goals (xG) total of 6.40 – all division-leading totals.

Haaland’s shot map is a joy to behold, effectively playing between the width of the posts and invariably shooting from inside the box, averaging 0.23 expected goals per open play shot this season.

Manchester City boast the in-form attack of the Gameweek 7 sides with Guardiola’s charges placed top for big chances (28) and expected goals (xG), with 13.94.

City’s dominance on big chances is notable, bettering second-placed Brentford (21) by some margin, as Haaland has accrued 50% of his team’s high-quality chances.

Furthermore, Haaland has quashed any concerns about his injury record and forecasted expected minutes in City colours, by recording six consecutive Premier League starts and averaging just over 79 minutes per appearance.

Above: Erling Haaland’s goal attempts (25) over the last six matches – shots on target (15) highlighted in green

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.2m) produced his fourth assist of the season against Aston Villa with a trademark early looping cross tapped in at the back post by an unmarked Haaland.

The Belgian international is averaging 5.83 FPL points per appearance this term and demonstrates division-leading creativity.

De Bruyne places top among all outfield players for assists (four), big chances created (seven), and expected assists (xA), with 2.46.

Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have produced some strong defensive underlying numbers placing in the top two for shots on target against (16) and big chances conceded (four) after six Gameweeks.

Zonally, Spurs rank fourth-worst for crosses conceded from their left flank (69) – an area which could be badly exposed by Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) and De Bruyne.

As a GW8 wildcard is looking more and more likely for me, which 1 week punt for this week seems the most fun. Gungo probably the one to make space:
    a) Double up on Brighton with Trossard and Gross
    b) Maybe go Sinisterra
    c) Keep Gundo

Took the plunge and wildcarded early (injured Walker, Cucurella situation etc).

Thoughts on this draft? I like it, but worried it's a bit top-heavy:

    Raya
    Cancelo James Fofana
    Salah Foden Rashford Bailey
    Kane Haaland Mitrovic

    (Ward, Andreas, Neco, Patterson)

    Thanks for any feedback!

C Haaland for me too. Salah already gone for KDB.

Didn't realise Newcastle were only at 12% with CRY - that seems shockingly low to me, not only in retrospect. I'm not much of a bettor but definitely would have considered a flutter at that price

GW7 will be a biggie for Salah. All roads are leading to move him on but if he hauls then what do you do?

Haaland cap. The entire game will cap him so no point taking risks.

Well then 13.0 becomes a case of multiple changes to get him back.

GW7 is his time for me. His new role may not be good for FPL anymore but still up in the air with how he is going to link with Nunez occupying the right side of the attack.

Perhaps Salah's assist will be much more than goals this season.

Let's see how Mo gets on vs Wolves.

Next week you mean? No reason to mess with Sanchez away at Bournemouth. I'm trying to avoid playing Ward at Spurs but I kind of want Guaita from GW9 so probably just going end up taking the 0pt-er

  14. House Frey Wedding Planner

    My current GW8 wildcard draft:

    Pope Ward
    Cancelo James Trippier Collins Neco
    Martinelli ASM Bowen Maddison Bailey
    Haaland Kane Mitro

    1.6itb.

On paper I know it looks weak and lightweight - especially in midfield. But on a transfer planner it's a sea of green fixtures throughout with not many changes or adjustments needed up until the World Cup. I'm looking at this as a 9 week challenge to score as many points as possible.

Collins can be any other 4.5 or similar value defender as I want to keep someone at that price point in defence. Chose Collins as his fixtures from gw11-16 is similar to that of Wolves first 6 games and would be happy if he matched that return. Will play 3-4-3 with Cancelo, Trippier and James mostly.

If ASM is not fit then I could go with Rashford or any City midfielder who's not KDB. They will most likely be transferred to Zaha in gw10 anyway so it's a 2 week punt for gw8 and 9.

Will plan to bring back Liverpool assets from gw12 onwards and should be able to free up more funds by downgrading Kane.

I really want Kane in for gw8-11. He's a great captaincy shout for gw8 and 11 and has returned points in all but 1 league game so far. His PL record against opponents between gw 8-11: Leicester (played 14, goals 17); Arsenal (played 15, goals 13); Brighton (played 8, goals 5); Everton (played 14, goals 13)

Thoughts on this somewhat different draft?

    1. FOO FIGHTER
      • 6 Years

      ASM - injury prone
      Bailey - TV destroyer
Bowen - he is just so bad this season
Maddison - playing for relegation fodder

The only midfielder which will get you regular points is Marti.

Not a good idea to go where you want to with your team.

Great post and much better TV than me, I see! I can barely scrape that team together and that's with Andreas for your Bailey.

I would consider Harrison instead of ASM. Leeds fixtures are good and he's on set-pieces.
I guess you favour fixtures over form with the Bowen pick? He could come good, but he will have to at his price.
      Good team overall though!

        Thanks.

I did consider Harrison over ASM, but as it's a 2 week punt I'm not keen on Leeds away to Utd in gw8. ASM is very much a punt at this stage and could well change by this time next week

I think I lean a little more towards fixtures over form (maybe 60-40) and am hoping Bowen does come good and I can jump on this before he goes on a run like last season. At worst he'd be a possible transfer out in gw11 if a better mid price midfielder presents itself by then

Persic is knocking on my door. Needs some Spurs cover and their fixtures are not the worst. As long as Neco is 1st bench reckon he may be ok to stick with.

    a) Best punt (5.0 mid)for next GW? Bailey, March, KDH, Almiron/Willock?
    b) Would you play that punt instead of James?

    Ederson
    TAA Gabriel Dunk
    Salah Diaz Martinelli Trossard PUNT*
    Haaland Jesus

    Bench: Ward, James, Cucurella, Archer

yep, not at all likely to make the century but a strong innings of 96 not out so far.

      Mobility issues and health concerns.

Charles on the bench and the squad has been well prepared for this.

Anything better than Walker -> Gabriel here? WCing GW8 so just a 1 week punt.

    Sanchez
    Trent, Cancelo, Dunk, Walker*
    Salah, Diaz, Martinelli, Gross
    Haaland, Jesus

    Ward, Trippier, Andreas, Archer
    Bank 0.5m, 1FT

      Money means f all

It only means something when you have alot of it but then blow it all.

Assuming you're talking about financially well off then most likely it depends where you live, whether you have dependants and what your expectations are in life.
It's a how long is a piece of string question really.

What do you think of this WC?
I know Bowen might be a wierd pick, and it's still early days, but West Hams fixtures are getting better now, and OR is 1M.
Also Bailey or Andreas as bench options from now till GW16?

    Pope
    TAA - Cancelo - James
    KDB - Bowen - Rashford - Martinelli
    Haaland - Toney - Mitrovic

    (Ward, Neco, Patterson, Bailey/Andreas)

0FT & 0.1m ITB - set on my team for this week, what to do next week. Was considering holding my WC until later, but the BRI double up has me thinking.

    Sanchez
    TAA - Cancelo - James - Trippier
    Salah - Martinelli - Gross
    Haaland - Jesus - Toney

    Ward - Bailey - Andreas - Neco

    A) WC
    B) Sanchez > Raya & Bench Gross
    C) Other

Would you WC this team in GW7 or GW8

    Henderson Ward

    TAA James Walker Cucurella Williams

    Salah Gundogan Diaz Gross Peirera

    Haaland Jesus Greenwood

If you would WC in GW8 who do you think is the best one week punt for this GW

    1FT 0.4 ITB

    Any ideas would be welcomed

    How do I fix this:

    Ward
    Zinchenko Perisic Dunk Saliba
    Diaz Salah Rodrigo De Bruyne
    Haaland Jesus

Iverson, Da Silva, N Williams, Stansfield

    1ft, wildcard already played

That should be Henderson, not Ward

Ward is a playing keeper, your priority should be Iverson replacement.
Rest all good for this GW. Maybe Rodrigo can be replaced.

Any advice here? Feel im stuck now that bha cry game got postponed. (Wc allready used).

    Sanchez
    TAA Cucu Neco
    Trossard Salah Diaz Martinelli
    Toney Haaland Jesus

    Ward Perisic Andreas Emerson

Cucu or Perisic out -> Trippier/James?

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

Roll so you have 2FTs to deal with your BHA players next week. Got a perfectly playable squad & decent back up for now. I would play Perisic over Neco

    2. Piksau
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 3 months ago

      Why stuck?
You can get 1 player out or both of BHA players. Although i would keep 1 or both. 1 Blank GW is not a big deal with good fixtures upcoming.
I feel Perisic -> Trippier is a better transfer this GW as we don't know how Chelsea will line up and play this GW with Tuchel out.

Or Cucu -> Trip? Perisic has LEI at home GW8?

  29. Piksau
    • 11 Years
    3 years, 3 months ago

    Raya Sanchez
    Cancelo TAA James Neco Perisic
    Martinelli Gross Zaha Salah Andreas
    Jesus Haaland Greenwood
    1 FT
    0.3 ITB

    Thinking of WCing:
    Jesus -> Toney
    Greenwood -> Mitro
    TAA -> Trippier
    Salah -> KDB
    Zaha -> Rashford

    Thoughts?
