Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are looking to Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal for the Gameweek 7 captaincy, and as per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 7 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Erling Haaland (£12.0m) is the leader of the captain poll in Gameweek 7, with a mite over 40% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Behind in second is Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), who is backed by just over a quarter of those polled ahead of his home tie against Wolves.

Gabriel Jesus (£8.1m) occupies third place with 7.23%, followed by Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) and Pascal Gross (£6.0m), with 5.11% and 2.52% respectively.

THE MAIN CANDIDATES

FPL pre-season: De Bruyne stars as Haaland misses out

ERLING HAALAND/KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Erling Haaland made FPL history by breaking the single Gameweek captaincy record in Gameweek 6 and scored his 10th Premier League goal in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa to repay masses of armband backers.

The Norwegian has effectively broken Fantasy Premier League and Haaland’s underlying goal threat numbers are his piece de resistance.

The Nordic marksman has recorded 24 shots inside the box, 14 big chances received, and an expected goals (xG) total of 6.40 – all division-leading totals.

Haaland’s shot map is a joy to behold, effectively playing between the width of the posts and invariably shooting from inside the box, averaging 0.23 expected goals per open play shot this season.

Manchester City boast the in-form attack of the Gameweek 7 sides with Guardiola’s charges placed top for big chances (28) and expected goals (xG), with 13.94.

City’s dominance on big chances is notable, bettering second-placed Brentford (21) by some margin, as Haaland has accrued 50% of his team’s high-quality chances.

Furthermore, Haaland has quashed any concerns about his injury record and forecasted expected minutes in City colours, by recording six consecutive Premier League starts and averaging just over 79 minutes per appearance.

Above: Erling Haaland’s goal attempts (25) over the last six matches – shots on target (15) highlighted in green

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.2m) produced his fourth assist of the season against Aston Villa with a trademark early looping cross tapped in at the back post by an unmarked Haaland.

The Belgian international is averaging 5.83 FPL points per appearance this term and demonstrates division-leading creativity.

De Bruyne places top among all outfield players for assists (four), big chances created (seven), and expected assists (xA), with 2.46.

Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have produced some strong defensive underlying numbers placing in the top two for shots on target against (16) and big chances conceded (four) after six Gameweeks.

Zonally, Spurs rank fourth-worst for crosses conceded from their left flank (69) – an area which could be badly exposed by Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) and De Bruyne.

    Time to dump Brighton assets?

If you have Sanchez and Ward, then you'll need to do something about that. With Neco, Andreas, Bailey having good fixtures next week, can easily bench and hold one of their mids instead of removing for a hit.

Fixtures get tricky so might want to move them on anyways, but don't need to be taking hits if you have a playable bench

If I WC next week, I'd like to get Kane in for the LEI fixture, however Haaland is a must and there's such good value in Toney and Mitro. Less opportunity cost of getting Son in, however he doesn't seem nearly as exciting at the moment. What to do, what to do?

    Sanchez
    James, Cancelo, Trippier, TAA, Saliba
    Salah, Diaz, Martinelli
    Haaland, Jesus

    Ward, Dasilva, Pereira, Archer

    2FT, 1.2m ITB, likely to wildcard gw9.

Not sure what to do, don't want to burn a free transfer.. any suggestions?

Assuming you’re otherwise happy with the misfiring costly players like TAA, Salah, etc most obvious thing is Sanchez out for a keeper with two good games so you don’t have to play Ward in GW8

I would wait until after the Bournemouth game though.

With 2FT, I always think it's best to use one cos otherwise you are effectively losing one if that makes any sense?

Ward -> Pope is a nice move

I would be tempted to downgrade James - yes he can be extremely explosive, however I'm not sure the Chelsea team is in a good place - especially defensively.

If you want a Chelsea defender go with Fofana, or at a push Cucu.

This would give you 1.7m or 0.9m more to invest in your team - or leave itb in case of price falls etc.

If you did Fofana over James, then I would be tempted to improve Ward to Raya/Sanchez to give a decent back up.

Maddison is a punt - one to monitor this week then decide next week, if you don't get him I'd be tempted by Solly March (fantastic underlying figures indicating possibility for big FPL points) and then upgrading Andreas/Neco to give a better option.

I think Rashfords points are done for a while.

He will blank next 2 then everyone will sell on GW9 WC only for him to hit double digits against City.

Target the poor defences like Leicester’s. Villa player not exactly enticing would be one-week punt worth trying. I guess an alternative would be targeting Bournemouth with another Brighton player, so Cucu to Dunk or similar?

    Cancelo,Dalot,Trippier
    Son,Martinelli,Rashford,Bailey
    Haaland,Kane,Mitrovic

    Iverson,James,Andreas,Emerson 1.4m itb.

Double up on Spurs attack for the Leicester game. Maybe keep both if they find form. Either can be moved to anyone inc Salah or KDB.
If not plan will be eventually to move Son > Fernandes and maybe Rashford > Zaha/Maddison.

      I like it a lot.
Im WCing next week and am looking at something similar but with Maddison instead of Son and Diaz instead of Bailey.
I'd like to keep just 1 Liverpool asset and Diaz looks like the best value.

Yeh one Liverpool player might be shrewd. Although Son could easily switched to Diaz if Son still looks poor.
I have enough itb for a straight Rashford > Maddison switch.
Kane > Nunez is also earmarked, if needed.

Dalot wouldn't be played every week, he could easily be someone like Anderson or Fofana. Rashford mainly there for the Leeds game.
Ideally I'd like Bruno but still monitoring. Hence the Son inclusion, can easily be changed to one of Bruno/Sterling/KDB if needed.

I've gone off it a bit this season, mainly due to Andreas providing what I usually look for in a first sub (solid 2pt-ers & the occasional 5-6). If the 4.5 mids had zero attacking threat, then I'd rather have a 4.5 defender over the likes of Neco because he'll get too many 0pt-ers if you're relying on him to cover random injuries rather than cherry-picking his fixtures

      1. Deulofail
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

I'd rather have Neco than 4.5 defender, as the extra 0.5 should get you more points in your XI (or ITB to help you get the move you want and avoid hits). 4.5 def still usually much more likely to get, say, less than 4 rather than more than 4. And if you only need them once every 5-10 games, you're probably spending that 0.5 every week on a 2-pointer anyway.

Yeah not for me, sorry. I don't have a posse that would be up for that right now 😀

Well, then here are three games which I like and closer to your original request:

          Kingdomino
          Tokaido
          Takenoko

Team GTG? Had two FTs and did Robbo & Archer to Fofana & Mitro.

    Sanchez
    TAA Cancelo Gabriel
    Sterling Foden Diaz Martinelli
    Jesus Mitro Haaland(c)

    Ward Fofana Andreas Neco

    0ITB, 0FT

Next week I'll be doing Sanchez to Leno.

Would you start both Robbo and TAA this week if you'd still had them?

My prediction is that Wolves will win the midfield battle and therefore create a few big chances. I honestly think they can score one or two. If you still believe they will get attacking returns, play them anyway.

Buckingham Palace are currently on the phone to Ben Crellin to get him to update his spreadsheet for BGW7 and to plan for a DGW in the future.
It doesn't get more official than that.

Yup, big fan. But not sure whether he makes my FPL squad with the team so dysfunctional. Will watch the Villa game closely as litmus test for whether to get him in GW9

Oh yes. I'm considering him as my Diaz replacement, if Liverpool continue to play like they do.
