With six Gameweeks’ worth of Premier League player and team data now available, it’s time to bring Big Numbers back for the 2022/23 season.

For the uninitiated, this article series looks at the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) statistics ahead of the upcoming Gameweek.

These cherry-picked Opta stats can all be found in our Premium Members’ Area.

Only subscribers can read the full article; those wishing to sign up to our site and continue reading, as well as see a list of the benefits that Membership brings, can do so by clicking here.

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

-3.50 expected goals prevented (xGP) by Danny Ward (£4.0m) this season. In layman’s terms, the Leicester City goalkeeper has conceded on 16 occasions when Opta’s ‘expected’ data reckons he should only have shipped 12.5 goals. That makes him the biggest underperformer of current starting Premier League goalkeepers, while no present number one has a worse save percentage (53.3%).

+2.60 is, by contrast, Jordan Pickford‘s (£4.5m) xGP in the first six Gameweeks, which is the best among FPL goalkeepers this season. He has been in fine form for the Toffees but he’ll be absent with a thigh injury in Gameweek 8, which could be a boost to the Fantasy prospects of West Ham attackers.

14 of Aaron Ramsdale‘s (£4.9m) last 16 Premier League starts have seen the Arsenal goalkeeper finish the match without a clean sheet. His xGP in that time is a poor -5.50, while his save percentage is down at a miserable 57.7%.

0.8 points per match averaged by Lucas Digne (£4.7m) this season, the joint-lowest mean of any ever-present starter in 2022/23 to date.

16 penalty box touches registered by Diogo Dalot (£4.5m) in the first six Gameweeks of the season, a total that no other FPL defender can better. Dalot’s rate of penalty area touches per 90 minutes has more than doubled compared to 2021/22, while he is also currently third for chances created (10) among players in his Fantasy position.

    0.7 itb

Q-A) Gross out > Rashford? / Saint Maximin? / Trossard?

but not sure about Trossard since their gw8 match postponed. I really have faith on Rash tho feel like he will rise before their M.city match

Correct Bench order or Play Sabila ahead of someone? Got 2FT 0ITB but can't see anything pressing- burn the FT?

    Ederson
    TAA Cancelo Cucurella Trippier
    Salah Diaz Martinelli Groß
    Haaland (C) Jesus

Are you WC soon? I'd be looking to get to 3 strikers. I'd probably start Saliba over Cucu, don't trust Chelsea not to concede but Cucu had a better chance of attacking returns. Potter won't have time to change the style of play really but could focus the minds of the Chelsea players so I can see the login in keeping him in.

They might regress a bit but they are a well run club so could see there being some value in some of their players still. Maybe drop them whilst they miss GW8 and have some tougher games.

Offload them if they won't score as much points as they did under Potter. Don't offload them if they'll score similar or more points.

Is TAA worth 7.5M on a porous Liverpool defense?

The underlying stats are as good as always, but without clean sheets, he can't get +200 points in a season.

Am I reading too much into their drubbing at Napoli? At 6 weeks, this defense can be judged as ordinary, yes?

    1. House Frey Wedding Planner

9 of the top 10 highest points scored by defenders are valued at between 4.5 and 5.2 with Cancelo being top with 33 points.

Out of the 20 midfielders who have scored more points than Trent already, 14 are priced cheaper.

Mitrovic and Toney have easily more points than Trent and are less expensive.

Liverpool aren't keeping clean sheets at the moment and there's far better value in every position than spending 7.5 on Trent.

Definitely not worth 7.5 at this time and the funds are better invested elsewhere

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 10 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

And the 4 best midfielders are all priced 6.5m or less. Nothing is unusual about lower price players outscoring higher priced ones 6 weeks into the season. The same thing happens every single year. It's impossible to predict who they are though and the ones that do it almost never keep up that rate across the season whereas the premium assets do. Not saying you can't get rid of Trent (at least as a short term thing) but to use your examples as proof that he's bad to own is ridiculous.

there is something fundamentally wrong with their defence at the moment (/entire team).

they defend half heartedly like they're in a practice match.

tracking a player doesn't come natural to Trent. You see it time and time again when someone runs beyond him and there is a pause whilst he thinks "oh c**p I should be following him".

I was on the verge of triggering my WC and dumping all my Liverpool assets. But now I'm delaying, which gives me a chance to see how much difference Thiago and Matip's returns make.

this week doesn't feel good for WC anyway, some of the players I would target have worse games than the ones I would remove. Next week looks lots better. Even if games get cancelled it would just become a gw9 wildcard.

A BBC presenter (Yalda Hakim) has apologised for 'incorrectly' announcing the Queen's death on Twitter.

The tweet has since been deleted.

I don't want to stir up any rumours, but this - coupled with the fact that the BBC news special actually interrupted normal broadcasting - indicates that there is real concern for the Queen's health.

I have also seen rumours circulating that she has indeed passed away, and that they are delaying the announcement to ensure that the Royal Family can gather together at Balmoral and give the family time together before making the announcement.

      It’s twitter

People want to be the first to report things so write things like this without proper proof

Twitter is a complete cesspit. I am not a royalist at all. Far from it but some of the things I have seen being posted makes me vomit.

The £ hit the lowest level since 1985 this morning.

            Global markets spooked

... tax cuts and Govt spending on energy guarantees to fight back against Putin's energy and economic war on Europe as well as actual war in Ukraine is a shaky time.

It's needed as the usual consumer £15 billion annual energy bills had risen to £75 billion in a calendar year for UK domestic bill payers (not firms).

We're not insulated like France and EDF to a 4% rise, it's been held at double from last year for the next 2.

21p kWh for electricity to 29p and a little over that. Rather than 51p per KWh or higher.

Gas going up too but still cheaper than electricity, despite setting the market and wholesale prices.

Of course. It's a slow wildcard. 1 transfer for GW7, 1 transfer for GW8, and still emerge with 2FTs for GW9 when the games are actually played. So, 4 transfers before a single ball is kicked again in GW9.

    Sterling (c)

    Who is with me?

    - Fulham bleed chances
    - Fulham will play a highish line, which suits Sterling's runs in behind
    - New manager bounce
    - Fulham likely to score so you suspect Chelsea will have to score a couple at least

Tried that with Jesus and got burned so not for me, but I don't disagree with the idea at all. I'm fairly tied to Haaland this week though if games go ahead

I am also considering Sterling. (And Jesus). Of course, both are great options this week.

However, I am looking for the answer elsewhere. In my opinion (strangely enough), the captaincy appeal of Sterling depends on Spurs: They have a strong defense, but is it enough to stop Haaland? If I am convinced that they could at least put some sort of resistance, then I will captain Sterling.

    Pope
    TAA Cancelo Saliba James
    Salah Martinelli Groß Foden
    Haaland Jesus

    Ward Neco Andreas Archer

2 FTs 0.1 ITB. Any suggestions for this week?

And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the reign?

Probably play a half tonight depending on score line
Can't see who else will replace him vs Everton with Smith Rowe crocked
