The FPL half-term report: Bournemouth

Our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) restart coverage continues with a review of all 20 Premier League clubs’ seasons so far.

In this Half-Term Report series, we look at which FPL players and teams have been top of the class in 2022/23 to date and who should be consigned to the Fantasy naughty step.

FPL bosses get unlimited transfers before Gameweek 17, so these articles will hopefully help you pinpoint some key targets for the Boxing Day resumption.

Next up is Bournemouth, who confirmed Gary O’Neil as their head coach last month after 12 matches as caretaker boss.

ATTACK: SEASON SO FAR

TotalRank v other clubs (adjusted per game)
Goals scored1813th
Shots12220th
Shots in the box8920th
Shots on target4818th=
Big chances1720th
Expected goals (xG)11.7720th
Non-penalty expected goals (NPxG)11.7720th

Aside from the actual goals scored column, Bournemouth’s key attacking metrics make for grim reading, as they sit bottom of the pile for shots, shots in the box, big chances, expected goals (xG) and non-penalty expected goals (NPxG).

Under O’Neil, they have rarely been entertaining, yet it’s worth noting they scored eight goals in their last three games before the World Cup break, showing more quality in the attacking third.

Indeed, against Everton in Gameweek 16, the Cherries registered their most xG (2.49), most shots (16), shots in the box (12) and shots on target (eight) in a single match this season.

Overall, it’s three wins, four draws and four losses for Bournemouth under their new manager. As a result, they now sit 14th in the Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone.

Above: How Bournemouth compare to other Premier League sides for minutes per NPxG across 2022/23

DEFENCE: SEASON SO FAR

Would you make any of these transfers with remaining round of 16 transfers to set up for quarter finals

    A Alvarez to Richarlison
    B Klaesson to Rabiot
    C Perisic to Pacqueta

Yes I'd do all of them. Brazil players my priority to get in.

      A - definitely
B - yes but low priority
C - would prefer 3x def & 2x fwd from Brazil, but if you're going a different way then Paqeuta is ok. Certainly wouldn't keep Perisic

Hard to look past Messi & Mbappe though.

So are you going for front 3 of Neymar Richarlison Mbappe - I think if you look at Mbappe Neymar Messi in fantasy football terms he probably is third

Yep that'll be me. Its not really an overall FF ranking so much as I think Brazil v Croatia is the tie I'm most certain of in the round

Which of these defenders, if any, would you sell for Dumfries in the next round?

    Alba, Marquinhos, Hernandez, Otamendi, Shaw.

    1. dunas_dog

Probably Shaw, then Otamendi( assuming Spain progress)

    2. dusky

      1 year, 5 months ago

Definitely not Marquinhos/Alba. But depends on money as well, as Dumfries costs 6M, exept Alba (6M) or Marquinhos (5,5M) the rest costs only 5M.

So maybe worth the risk to go without Dumfries and use my transfers elsewhere?

    Afternoon all!

Let's get some GW17 chat going!

Kevin De Bruyne. Awful World Cup for him, and for Belgium, but it means a nice long rest ahead of the restart.

Is he a must-have now? Or are Haaland and Salah still clear if going with two premiums?

Is 3 heavies the way forward now?

    What's your plans with him?

Shhh, the World Cup is still on, dont you know? 😛

I'm not sure he's going to be like 60%+ EO "essential", but it's going to take a lot to budge me from Haaland & KDB as my 2 main City players for the rest of the season. Foden's triple benching, coinciding with Halaand's absence left a big City void in my team that I don't want to see again. As long as Pep deems Foden sufficiently immature as to need teaching a lesson via benching, KDB eclipses him for me.

2 premiums or 3 will depend on other factors like Kane's fitness, Darwin's form/nailedness

      KDB very much in plans

Plan is 3 City- Haaland KDB Cancelo
Probably no Salah but Darwin in front 3
      alongside Mitrovic.
Probably no Kane but may have Kulusevski in midfield

Kulu won't be in XI with how Richa is playing. Son and Kane can't be benched.

Whatever god has possessed Richarlison will leave his body once he leaves the Brazil squad.

I have Kulusevski in one of my 2 main drafts also, although its the "benching headache" draft so I could bench him from time to time

I think three premiums is the way to go - Haaland plus any two out of Kane, Salah and KDB.
Haaland is the only must-have of these four.

      Kane and Haaland for me

KDB if I can afford as a third premium but not instead of those two

Seems like suicide unless you're playing a format that allows multiple teams and you want a draft that's stacked with England. Giroud cannot cover, only supplement imo.

50/50 who goes through but I think he scores this game and then if France do go through you'd want him next round. If you have (which almost everyone does), he's a hold for me.

Probably going with Neymar but I have thought about Vini. Juranovic hasn't looked that convincing to me, whereas Croatia's mids should be able to do a better job of tracking Neymar. I think Brazil will get more penetration down the Croatia's right flank, especially if Sosa is back (with the mighty Gvardiol covering the left too). But then Neymar will probably end up drifting down that side too.

Advice required please. Top of ML, top 5 win something, only 8 points separating 5th from top, so it’s close
I have Alba, Bruno and Olmo to play, the rest just have 2.
Do I Captain Bruno when I’m on Messi with 14 banked?

    A. YES, go for it!
    B. No, too much of a punt
    C. No, Captain Olmo

    Cheers!

Certainly more chance than the last couple of days. Ultimately I think Spain & Portugal win 1-0, but 0-0 pens wouldn't be out of the question for Spain, and I'm not sure if Switzerland winning would be that much of a shock really

Struggling to go with the threemium, and have come up with the following:

    Kepa,
    Trippier, Cancelo, Gabriel
    Salah, Foden, Rashford, Martinelli
    Darwin, (H)aaland, Mitro

    (Ward, Patterson, Pereira, Neco)

    0.7 ITB

Thoughts? Can squeeze to Foden > KDB if I do Darwin > Nketiah and Patterson to a non playing 5th bench player.

Feels a bit too loose though...
