There’s one more Gameweek 17 match to go before Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers get their sole rest day ahead of back-to-back Gameweeks.

Leeds United v Manchester City is the fixture in question, with kick-off at Elland Road set for 20:00 GMT.

It’s almost entirely about the visitors from an FPL perspective, with only one member of Leeds’ starting XI, bench fodder’s Sam Greenwood, owned by more than 2% of Fantasy managers.

Five City assets boast double-digit ownerships, by contrast, but two of them, Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden, aren’t part of Pep Guardiola’s line-up tonight.

In fact, only two of the eight City players who reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal or England make the team this evening.

It’s John Stones and Jack Grealish who get the nod, with Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Foden, Cancelo and the newly portly Kalvin Phillips on the bench.

Ruben Dias is injured.

Above: FPL assets sorted by ‘effective ownership’ in the top 10k (via LiveFPL)

Guardiola has largely gone with the same team that defeated Liverpool in the EFL Cup last Thursday, making three changes: Stefan Ortega, Aymeric Laporte and Cole Palmer are replaced by Ederson, Stones and Grealish.

Jesse Marsch has got a number of his injured and ill players back this evening, including Illan Meslier and Rodrigo.

Patrick Bamford misses out and Crysencio Summerville, who like Rodrigo has scored three goals in as many league matches, is only on the bench.

GAMEWEEK 17 LINE-UPS

Leeds United XI: Meslier, Kristensen, Struijk, Koch, Cooper, Forshaw, Roca, Greenwood, Gnonto, Rodrigo, Aaronson.

Subs: Robles, Ayling, Firpo, Llorente, Gyabi, Klich, Summerville, Harrison, Gelhardt.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Lewis, Akanji, Stones, Ake, Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish, Haaland, Mahrez.

Subs: Ortega, Walker, Phillips, Cancelo, Laporte, Bernardo, Gomez, Foden, Palmer.

So how much do we think Gakpo will be and will he be a midfielder or forward? I think 8m midfielder.

FPL mentioned on Sky Sports just now by David James. Saying everyone that has KdB in their fantasy team will be frustrated because he had an incredible game...

Well, as I captained him, yeah.

Also got Cancelo’s one point with Trppier due off the bench. Annoyed doesn’t really cover it.

1st time I took Salah out too. For KdB. Haaland captain. Would've got Patterson's haul if Cancelo didn't come on 😉

I can't tell you how much of a difference it made having Patterson auto-sub Wilson this week.

    Thoughts on that plan?

For GW18, downgrade James or keep him and downgrade next week
    For DGW19, Darwin to Mitro
    For DGW20, Martial to Kane

Just means no Pool for at least GWs19-20

Honestly I'd just hold onto Darwin. Probable GW21 DGW.

Probability for DGW 21 for Darwin is less than 50%, nonetheless I would keep him too.

This is tricky as I'm not actually keen on getting rid of Martial for GW19 so if I want Mitro in, I'm looking at Darwin out, not ideal for sure

    Pope
    Trippier Gabriel Shaw
    Almiron Salah Martinelli. Rashford

Good morning all - I hope all your arrows were green...

I would really like to save my FT despite the James injury, so it is typical that the Bueno/Patterson combo has a Manchester double...

So.... do I play Bueno to give me a bit longer for potential information on DGWs or

    a) James > Robby
    b) James > Shaw
    c James > Cucu

    Kepa

    Tripps White Bueno (Patterson James)
    ALmiron KDB Martinelli Rashford (Andreas)
    Darwin Kane Haaland

I think doing James to cucu is buying in to the dgw of Chelsea. Don’t think they will get a cs against Chelsea or Fulham

    3. Art Vandelay

      2 years, 12 months ago

      Cheers.

Is there an info on potential DGWs to be added in the near term?

Might Liverpool have one? If so, that could certainly nudge me towards Robbo. He feels the most explosive pick. Alternatively, dropping to Cucu/Shaw gives me extra cash (I have 1.5 already) which could be useful..

It's between Cucu and Shaw, Pool defence looks awful for clean sheets

        1. Art Vandelay
          • 15 Years
          2 years, 12 months ago

Cucu certainly feels the solid play, but there is something I don't like about him. It could be the hair.

I agree Liv defence looks awful but I am sure they will improve and Robbo isn't really playing in defence anyway.

Very interesting article on The Athletic (paywall) about why Foden keeps being benched: https://theathletic.com/4041648/2022/12/29/jack-grealish-riyad-mahrez-manchester-city/

Basically, it's because he's too direct and Guardiola wants to slow the game down in the name of control.

I have James and an attack line of Darwin, Martial and Haaland. No Salah.

Probably keeping Darwin and James on board and rolling FT for GW 19. Hope that Mitrovic will be suspended by then so I don't have to buy him for the double.

Summerville and Gnonto at Leeds might be worth a look soon. Good fixtures after Newcastle, Summerville was great before the World Cup and Gnonto looks electric. Plus very. very cheap.

Yep, I was thinking this whilst watching yesterday. Nailed-ness would need to be assessed but they would be great enablers for a 3/4-mium. Leeds also rotate well with Fulham (Andreas) if you wanted to go down that route.

      Shaw of Cucurella imo.

Robbo too expensive, L'Pool too leaky defence. Attacking returns, at least for now, are not enough for neither TAA or Robbo.

Stones is a boring pick and not nailed.
