Pras and Andy (aka Sonaldo) discuss these approaches in even more detail on this week’s Burning Questions video/podcast.

The FFS Pro Pundits 30

Before we start, make sure you check out the guide to the Blank/Double Gameweeks. This linked article, for example, explains what needs to happen for certain fixtures to become blanks in Gameweeks 28/32 – something that is alluded to below.

‘HELICOPTER’ VIEW

The above image is from Legomane and takes a look at the Gameweeks to come, including where the potential doubles could fall (coloured in blue). Click to expand the graphic.

STRATEGY 1

Wildcard – Gameweek 27
Free Hit – Gameweek 28
Bench Boost – Gameweek 34

StrategyProsConsWhat could change?
Load up on Brighton and Brentford – exit out for Blank Gameweek 28, and have them again for Double Gameweek 29

Applicable for teams that have little-to-no Brighton or Brentford cover

Also applicable for teams without Harry Kane or sub-optimal Arsenal assets
Maximises the doubles in Gameweek 27 but can also be well set for Gameweeks 28 and 29

Can attack the Gameweek 25 double as well with two to three Liverpool assets – but you’d need to commit to this plan before Gameweek 25
Gameweek 32 will be tough to navigate when Man City, Newcastle, Man Utd, Brighton and Spurs could blank. Even Arsenal could be without a fixture

Other teams (eg Newcastle, Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool) also have great fixtures in Gameweek 27, so there could well be a benching dilemma

An ideal Gameweek 29 team may not require three to four Brighton and Brentford players eg. Brentford play Brighton and Man Utd in 29

Gameweek 28 looks to be a low-upside week to Free Hit

We may not know the full picture beyond Gameweek 29 before the Gameweek 27 deadline
If there’s a big upset in the FA Cup (eg. if Man Utd lose to West Ham), then Man Utd and Chelsea don’t blank in Gameweek 32.

The Liverpool v Fulham fixture going ahead in Gameweek 28

Big injuries leading into Gameweek 25/26 to key players like Kieran Trippier, Erling Haaland etc

STRATEGY 2

Bench Boost – Gameweek 27
Wildcard – Gameweek 29
Free Hit – Gameweek 32

StrategyProsConsWhat could change?
Applicable for teams already well stocked on Brighton and Ivan Toney/David Raya

Supplement with teams that play in Gameweeks 27 and 28, like Chelsea

Replace all Gameweek 28 blankers (eg Marcus Rashford, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane) with players that play in Gameweek 28
Gets the Bench Boost out of the way to revert to a “lean” squad after Wildcarding in Gameweek 29

The Wildcard will maximise the better teams that double (eg. Man Utd, Newcastle, Man City and Chelsea)
Not enough time to set up and also under-prepared to navigate Blank Gameweek 28

Big loss of team value

Arsenal dilemma: they won’t double in Gameweek 29 but they do play Leeds at home
Injury leading up to Gameweek 27 on a player not blanking in Gameweek 28

STRATEGY 3

Wildcard – Gameweek 29
Free Hit – Gameweek 32
Bench Boost – Gameweek 34

Any suggestion for my next move?

    1FT, 1.3 ITB

    Kepa, Ward
    Trippier, Schar, Gabriel, Shaw, Bueno
    Rash, Bruno, Mitoma, KdB, Odegard

Best gw to use TC chip?Atm i am thinking Salah in gw25 or Haaland in possible dgw29(LIV+WHU).Any thoughts?

      There's Saka in GW25 too

Mitoma or Toney in GW27, but captaincy might be enough of a punt for most managers

If you're on BB29, then Haaland in 34 depends on the FA Cup and maybe the title race as well. TC29 might not be so straightforward if Liverpool keeps improving and West Ham keeps up their season-long defensive consistency

We could have Brighton in GW37 and some other random mini-DGWs, but they're very difficult to predict now

And player/team form could have changed a lot by then too

This chart says there is zero chance that games get moved from GW35, which is wrong. I've seen it suggested in a few places (not in FPL Twitter land) that games may well move from the weekend of GW35 to the midweek of GW34 a few days earlier due to the coronation, particularly London matches. I also don't get the logic why DGW 37 is predicted to be so small compared to the other earmarked DGWs - this hasn't happened before as far as I recall.

          1. The Mentaculus

Ah yeah, I remember Lord pointed out that the coronation could affect the schedule - but I think the suggestion was moving games back one day (Sat ➡ Friday). Will keep an eye on that, thanks.

Seems unlikely (for example) that a big event like a PL match in London will be played on a Friday night the night before a coronation, but yes, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Got a bit lucky with an 80 point haul this gw to make good gains in my ML, but my team needs some work.

    Kepa
    Shaw Trippier Kilman
    Almiron Rashford Saka Bruno F
    Kane Haaland Toney

    (Bueno Martinelli Patterson)

Planning to do Bruno F > Salah after GW24, but with 2.8m itb the City fixture at Forest this gw is standing out as an opportunity to bring in Mahrez, but it would be for a hit. The fall guys are Bruno (which makes an easy switch to Salah next gw) or Almiron (which blows my Salah funds). So:

    A) Bruno > Mahrez -4
    B) Almiron > Mahrez -4
    C) Hold

Not gospel in the slightest but lots already predicting a Mahrez benching (rest for UCL) vs. NFO.

      https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/nottingham-forest-a-sat-18th-feb-15-00-pre-match-thread.358648/

Hope it's ture & Bruno notches a few points. 7 points worse-off for not making the Mahrez (-4) move last week, and it'd be nice to gain 'em back!

      1. JELLYFISH
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

I was very close to doing Bruno > mahrez last gw too so to bring him in now does feel like chasing last weeks points. Bournemouth next up after Forest though does make City assets very appealing, but this move does feel like a Pep Roullette gotcha. Thanks for the feedback.

No probs. I'm probably sticking if it helps - partly because I MAY opt for Salah in GW25 & I have transfers elsewhere to focus on rather than hopping.

If course if Mahrez is benched I'd prefer he not get a full rest, rather people not get autosubs that score well this week 😛

Maybe Martinelli over Almirón, but that's close

      1. JELLYFISH
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

Dgw 25 is enough reason for me to hold on to Martinelli a bit longer. Almiron is the priority I feel with their fixtures and blank.....unless anything more pressing is required a switch to a Brighton mid looks the likely move after their blank

Aside from Salah, who is the best Pool attacking asset (Mid/Fwd) to have for DGW 25?

With Jota coming back do you think he'll be rotated with Gakpo? Making Darwin the best choice?

    1. The FPL Units
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

No one. Salah and maybe TAA/Robbo.

I have Robbo, and unfortunately can't get Salah without taking a hit.

Darwin Jota Gakpo on the same level I think. No one stands out

      1. Tcheco
        • 8 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

I think it also depends on whether you want to sacrifice a mid or a forward. Gakpo is a mid so that could either be a pro or a con depending on how your team is set up

        1. Tellloth
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 8 Years

Yeah I was thinking the same. I can't fit Salah in so was leaning Darwin but I don't want to drop Toney just to bring him back in for his DGW. So was thinking Gakpo as well.

I think there is a good chance of rotation for Darwin with Jota back. Salah or Trent only worth the risk for me.

I'm concerned as always but Felix looks bright.

Getting in the positions, taking shots. Went close a couple of times yesterday & hit the bar. He's been on set pieces (corners, plus the odd free kick). All good signs for FPL.

              Agreed

He's been the spark Chelsea needed. I just can't go there since I already have Haaland - Kane - Toney, so he'll have to wait until GW28 for me

Lovely fixtures though, or a straight swap if Toney gets suspended

Do we think Mahrez had an injury or just rested for the busy schedule?

Looked to be tactical (change to a back 4). Rest around champions league is possible though based on previous seasons

He looked upset, which usually points more to tactics than an injury

I didn't see any special medical attention on him afterwards either

And as the Admiral says, he was subbed off for Akanji in a formation change

So yeah, very likely to be a rest. Let's see if there's anything from Pep/City before the deadline

Tactical as playing Silva as left back failed and Mahrez was not really in the game so easy switch for Pep

Season is going well so far, up to 25k OR. First time I have tried in a while and good to see I have not become a complete delinquent.

    Team for this week:

    Kepa
    Tripps Gabriel Shaw
    KDB Rashford Saka Andreas
    Nketiah Kane Haaland (c)

    Bench: Almiron Bueno Shar

All look OK? Have 0.3m itb if I need to shift anyone but I think I will hold to help navigate the blank GW25 with a couple of transfers to bring in some LIV assets (maybe)!

What to do with Callum Wilson. If fit I'll probably be forced to hold this week. Ultimately he needs to become Toney but not sure if it's worth doing the Nunez jiggery pokery inbetween

I’m selling for Felix this week I think. Might as well take a low owned punt

Not been convinced by Chelsea's goalscoring, but indeed if it's a punt for a couple of weeks and I can get Toney anyway then why not

Ferguson to Gnonto might help a bit for BGW25. Don’t necessarily need to do it this week though. 2 FT’s next week will be powerful

Time to finally ship Cancelo? Or do something else?
    1ft, 0.0itb

    Kepa Ward
    Shaw Trippier White Bueno Cancelo
    Bruno KdB Rashford Odegaard Andreas
    Haaland Mitro Nketiah

I would probably roll FT. Gain more info then sell Cancelo in 25.

What would you do with this team in gw25?

    * = no fixture in gw25
    ** = bench risk for gw25

    Kepa, Ward

    Trippier*, Estupinan*, Bueno**, Cucurella**, Shaw*

    Rashford*, KDB, Mahrez, Martinelli**, Mitoma*

    Haaland, Darwin, Greenwood**

That means 8 players that are small or big problems with 2 free transfers.

Should i take 1 or 2 hits, free hit or wildcard?

    Any help is much appreciated!

Ive done myself a bit here i know, but have racking up points regardless and a decemt rank of 80k.

But here, I don’t really see a clear path.

Nice rank, good going. You may do well to save your FH for a gameweek with a higher ceiling. Any hits should take more than the current GW into account

I'm in a Draft league and a mate of mine has just sent me this blockbuster trade deal.... thoughts?

His: Pope / Bruno / Sancho / Felix

Mine: Kepa / Kulu / Buendia / Haaland

My team is a little thin and I've been depending on Haaland to score big to save my gameweeks.

    The rest of my team:

    Kepa (Mendy)
    Dier Semedo Myko Coleman VVD
    Kulu Buendia Gundo Buendia Podence
    Haaland Ferguson Welbeck

    Cheers!

Pass. Bruno & Sancho wouldn't be enough for me to give up Haaland. Kulu could do well in the next few weeks.

Easy pass. Kepa is great. Bruno Sancho both have two upcoming blanks; fixtures only better later. Felix is good but not as good as Haaland.

Horrendous week. Red arrow and slipped massively in my ML. Any advice greatly appreciated with Patterson seemingly dead, White and Akanji having been benched and NEW / MUN blanking next week. 2 FT & £4.1m ITB

    DDG
    Tripp Akanji White
    Bruno F Rash Odegaard Almiron
    Kane Haaland Nketieh

    Ward Botman Patterson Andreas

Almiron > Mahrez and roll to bring in Gakpo & Robbo next week or take a -4 and sort my mess out? If the latter, any suggestions greatly appreciated as it feels like my season is imploding

    Better option for GW26 and GW28 ?
    a) Villa defender (which ?)
GW26 vs Palace home & GW28 vs BOU home
    b) Nott’m defender (which ?)
GW26 vs Everton home & GW28 vs Newcastle home

    a) GW24: Marti + Shaw -> Saka + Kilman (for -4) and GW25: KDB -> Salah
    b) Save FT and wait

    Shaw Trippier Gabriel (Neco, Bueno)
    Bruno Mahrez Rash Martinelli (Andreas)
    Haaland Nketiah Kane

What would you do with this lot? Sort the defs, mids or upgrade Nketiah?
    Cheers

    Decided to keep Kane so..

    Mitro ➡️ Felix
    Bruno ➡️ Maddison-4

And play double Newcastle v Pool

Or do Schar ➡️ Chelsea defender instead?

    Thanks.
