Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing seriousâ€, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

'tis a question I have long pondered, and my conclusion is Kun...simply down to the fact that he is the most nailed on of their forwards and also most likely to be on pens.

Pens is by no means certain! Tevez was always the penalty taker before the 'incident' and his subsequent exile, plus I'm sure Balotelli takes them when he's on the pitch.

I was frustrated enough by Aguero not taking penalties awarded to City last season so I'm not taking that into consideration.

So basically it comes down to an extra 2.5m for being a bit more nailed on...

I don't think the question is about being nailed on. I think Tevez will start just as many as Aguero. I think the question is about goals and at the moment Aguero appears to offer more.

Thats true re Ballo, I forgot about that. It is a bit of a quandary, Kun does look the safest route in to their forward line, but as this thread is testament to there is an element of risk.

I would have thought that Tevez is more likely to be on pens - ?

I think it will be an FPL disaster if city buy RVP. It will be a similar situation to Chelsea's midfield. A host of brilliant players but with high rotation risk.

A deep-lying Rooney for 12m is not good fantasy-wise and neither is a 11.5m Aguero if he's on the bench.

Disagree - Rooney gave a good points return last year, on pens, and may play as the spearhead now Kagawa has been bought.

Aguero also has to be the most guaranteed of game time at city too, he won't be on the bench often at all, maybe the odd rest.

But as Tinkerman says, if you can get good points from two budget strikers the money saved goes a long way to upgrade the rest of the team.

                Sorry for late reply.

It's hard to predict exactly who and it will probably rely on form and fixtures and being flexible to accomodate them but yeah, the likes of Bent, Jelly, Cisse, Ba, Graham, Lambert, Petric, Suarez etc.

You make a very valid point. There does seem to be a real wealth of quality striker options in the sub 9m catergory this season. I am thinking particularly Petric and Bent at this stage, and depending on what Ade does Defoe looks too good to ignore at 7.5! I also think Gerbil could be a good (albeit high risk) punt.

    Valencia lampard larsson noble frei

    Torres tevez rooney

I feel this does away with having too keep 2m in the bank and allows to keep torres for gw2 if he does well in gw1.im convinced tevez will partner aguero too. Planning no transfer for gw2 then torres and lampard > bale and ba etc for gw3

Do people think this will be the Spurs lineup? A narrow 4-2-3-1 with the attacking mids quite central allowing room for the fullbacks to make runs up the flanks? I figure players like VDV won’t be employed wide on the wing and Bale is playing much more centrally these days as well.

Honestly there's only 5 players I'd bank on starting... Walker, Friedel, Assou Ekotto, Bale and Van der Vaart.

Kaboul Vertonghen Dawson Gallas and Caulker could all have a shot at CB (The foremost 2 most likely),

Huddlestone, Parker, Sandro and Livermore are all fighting for, what in reality, will probably only be 1 spot (2 if it's a double pivot in a 4-2-3-1)

        Siggy/VDV? Who's in the hole?

        Lennon out wide?

There's just sooo many question marks

This is very much the draft I'm on at the moment, except the last 2 defenders could change, along with the keeper and the budget mids. Oh, and perhaps Ageuro > Tevez to fund a slight improvement in the defense or Graham > Bent.

Aside from the inevitable Mata/Hazard/Who? dilemma, I think this the strongest of the "generic FFS" teams currently doing the rounds, but I'd feel a lot happier if I could squeeze in DDG over Friedel, shame there's nobody at 6.0 in midfield with the same promise as e.g. Pienaar, Larsson, Taarabt, Hoilett.

The other option is squeezing Cuellar down to e.g. Gunther, but the balance doesn't feel nearly as good that way.

I still dont think I'm totally happy. But will just have to live with the defense I think.
Considered VDV instead of Bale and then an upgrade to defence.

Stilicho that would clear up the DDG issue.

Think my priority in that case would either be Taarabt to Michu or as I said one one the 4mill defenders upto a 4.5.

Hi fellas! Latest draft for me !

      Friedel – Federici

      Demel – Lescott – A.Cole – Coloccini – Cuellar

Valencia – Hazard – Michu – Noble – Pienaar (if he moves to Everton ofc)

      Rooney – Tevez – Petric

      - Keepers I’m also happy with. Friedel is great value at 5.5M and has awesome fixtures from GW 1-10
Though Federici will start GW 1 ofc.
      - I currently like my defense a lot. Lescott and A.Cole will mostly be weekly starters, Coloccini or Cuellar for the last spot, with maybe throwing Demel in when I really have to.

      - Midfielders I’m also happy with. Went Valencia over Kagawa to not get too punty with my players. Hazard will be this years FPL Bale IMO. Michu I picked because you guys have talked him up in the skies. Noble, cheap and set-pieces. Pienaar, lets hope he returns to Everton for his owng good and for us.

      - Up front Rooney is the safe pick, Tevez I currently have now but I will take a look on the Community Shield to see if he plays a part. Petric will stay in my team as he is doing very good in the pre-season atm-. + Half a year ago I played with him on Fifa 12 with Hamburg and he was deadly in front of goal. 😛

      Any thoughts guys? 😀
