DGW29 BENCH BOOST

Providing my squad isn’t hit too hard by injuries in the international break, I will Bench Boost in Double Gameweek 29.

The graphic you see below is how it currently looks, with a pair of Brentford ‘doublers’ joining Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.9m).

However, with one free transfer and £5.7m in the bank, I’ll probably sell Odegaard for one of Bruno Fernandes (£9.6m), James Maddison (£8.2m) or Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m).

For now, I’m leaning towards Fernandes, whose average position/touch heatmap v Fulham on Sunday offers encouragement that he won’t be too deep in the absence of Casemiro (£4.9m).

Above: Bruno Fernandes’ (no. 8) average position/touch heatmap v Fulham, via Sofascore

ODEGAARD – KEEP OR SELL?

So, I’m probably selling Odegaard, which might need explaining.

Over his last six appearances, he’s averaging 5.0 points per match and has posted some decent underlying numbers, despite trailing Bukayo Saka (£8.6m), Leandro Trossard (£6.9m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) for points.

Just realised Salah will be fasting for the next few weeks. Has he got a good record for goals whilst fasting?!

Need a good captain punt that isn’t Rashford this week

    BB active

    (6.0 itb & 2FTs)

Don't like Pinnock's and Herny's fixtures for cs, Toney bound to get booked and only play 1st game. Sanchez won't play, plus Kane, Saka and Martinelli only have 1 game, albeit good games, so depends what is priority, more doubles? All 15 playing? Better defence?

I just don't get football management. The merry go round of the same old managers being re-cycled all the time. Hodgson was awful at Watford but Palace now bring him back. The guy is 75! Normally when you are sacked from a job it means you are no good or operating at a level above your ability so you have to go away, do some training and try and develop the skills that were lacking. But these managers get sacked from one premier league club and then just go to another prem club. I've never understood it. Ralph Hassenhuttl sacked from Southampton but is being talked about as taking over palace from next season. Its mental.

Lot of the time, these relegation endangered teams need a new manager bounce, which they get regardless of who they hire. It’s actually how some managers make a career for themselves (think allardyce).

New manager bounce generally only lasts a couple of games though before the losses start coming again.

There is a structural bias towards keeping the same people in the top jobs (not just talking about football, but look at banking, media, even the UK's PMs all come from Oxford University). When new blood comes in it is generally someone from the same fraternity.

"Normally when you are sacked from a job it means you are no good or operating at a level above your ability so you have to go away, do some training and try and develop the skills that were lacking."

Your words quoted above apply to the people who do (the lackeys or underlings) not the bosses.

Generally, it is 'who you know, not what you know' and once you know the right people, you build up the 'what you know' because the 'who you know' give you the experience to get the 'what you know'.

I think Hodgson and Palace wasn't normal story of sacking manager. I think the plan was for Roy to retire and let the new manager start building new team for longer term. Since Vieira was sacked (I wouldn't blame him for Zaha injury), Roy had to be the most obvious choice for these last games. He knows the team and had done decent job over many years. I believe he is respected in the dressing room. He doesn't have to do miracles now, if he can do what he has shown to be able to do, CP should avoid relegation.

I'm somehow able to afford Haaland - Kane - Salah, but that's through double Brighton midfield. Getting Salah in GW31, probably for Saka (FH32) after Odegaard to Mac Allister in GW29

-12 worth a BB or just keep it for a better week?!

I have Free hit/Wildcars/BB left but my 11 is very strong but my bench has single players and Ward in net

Not WCing, but would be interested to see what a good WC team for this GW would be.

A lot of similar teams who have lucked out the last few GWs. But now those teams are low on players who have a good DGW and good future fixtures.

Don't see any major problem, but don't love my team either. What do you think of it?

    Raya , Ward
    Chilwell, Trippier, Gabriel, Mee, Burn
    Saka, Ødegaard, Maddison, Rashford, Mitoma
    Haaland, Kane, Toney

    £1.0 in the bank

Lots for me to love here, except Ward. If on a BB, Ward to a starter would be nice as the FT

You were a Saka (C) away from having a good week in GW28, as I was too. I guess we'll both wait for the pressers before making any moves, especially with the Haaland and Rashford flags

      Good luck, good lad

I plan to BB this week and FH GW32, so would like to get in a 13th DGW player.

Best move here with my FT?

    A) Martinelli —> Bruno
    B) Saka —> Bruno (leaves change for Toney/Watkins —> Haaland for GW30 juicy SOU fixture)
    C) Kane —> Isak

    Cheers!

Currently leaning towards (B) as having Haaland with the FH to cover his blank will be huge past this week's BB.

      B

With these options, I'd actually just roll FT instead

Or maybe Toney to Isak and then Watkins to Haaland next GW

Bruno isn't in better form (stats or returns) than Martinelli or Saka, who face the leaky Leeds next

Kane is still having a Salah-like season, even with the chaos at Spurs through most of the season

Yeah. My first choice here would still be to roll, but Toney to Isak is an affordable luxury

Conte wants to get sacked and Richarlison is injured. Son hasn't been at his best, but has looked little better. I can see/spaculate Kane dropping deeper and possible dressing room problems having negative effect. Not sure my crystal ball is correct, but Kane's form dropping is a possibility imo.

I know because it made me avoid Kane for a long, long time. There's always a reason he shouldn't get returns

But here he is. One corner in the 95th minute, heads it in, 9 points

He scored vs Sou from corner, but isn't Everton significantly better at defending them? (Sorry, haven't checked yet). I know Kane is Kane, but I have to attack now and I believe that Toney, Isak and Watkins (/Havertz?) is the trio with biggest potential upside. And even if Kane had 55% chance to do better than Isak, I would still probably play the differential in my current situation.

Hey all languishing at 2.5m OR, could use some feedback here (bit depressing when you read there's only 2-3m active players haha)

    Raya
    Trip Chilwell Estupinan
    Rashford Salah MacAllister Saka
    Haaland Watkins Toney

    Ederson Henry Botman Odegaard

1ft 0.7 itb, BB FH left

Given current info would you BB29 and what moves would you make here? Am thinking Ederson to Steele or Kepa and Ode to Maddison for a - 4

Interesting that you mention Iversen here

Leicester defended well with him in goal. I'll try to shake off the "whipping boy" status in my mind and consider their defensive assets more seriously. It's a bit difficult to do that off the evidence of just one game, but it was noticeable vs Brentford

Especially as a Toney capper 😀

Certainly this appears to be the best week to BB for those still with the chip generally. I'm happy enough with Arsenal's fixture not to take a hit replacing any of them - though maybe keep Ederson and replace Ode with Mitoma/March for free. Madds has too many YC and plays for Leicester so may be a transfer in the waiting.
FH32 gets you past the blank game week if necessary.

I'd like to take -4 to do Zinch to Shaw, but I have big doubts about it. Arsenal has 47-48% chance to keep CS and MU something like 25-26% vs Newcastle.

5 were enough in GW28 if you capped Saka

Always a matter of nailing the haulers, rather than fielding XI (especially with hits). Happened in GW25 as well. You have a higher chance of nailing haulers when you have more players, of course, but I'm referring to a focus on quality over quantity

If those 10 have at least 5 players expected to go nuclear, then I don't think you need the 11th. If that 11th player is Salah vs Forest at Anfield, then maybe it's not enough
