We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Gameweek 31 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Saturday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

GAMEWEEK 31 FIXTURES

Times given in BST

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL Gameweek 21: Sunday's goals, assists, bonus points + statistics

Gameweek 31 is all about some tasty-looking home fixtures for Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. They face relegation-threatened clubs who have struggled defensively all season, so there’ll inevitably be representation from both. Five names from these sides currently feature in our Scout Picks bus team but more/others could follow.

The main nagging doubt regarding Man City is that they are in UEFA Champions League action on either side of Gameweek 31, so there is the very real potential for some minute management at the weekend.

  • Tuesday 11 April: Champions League quarter-finals – Bayern Munich (h)
  • Saturday 15 April: Gameweek 31 – Leicester City (h)
  • Wednesday 19 April: Champions League quarter-finals – Bayern Munich (a)
  • Saturday 22 April: FA Cup semi-finals – Sheffield United (n)
  • Wednesday 26 April: Gameweek 33 – Arsenal (h)

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is the stand-out premium pick – his tally of 8.1 points per start in 2022/23 ranks first among all players. For now, he’s joined by the in-form Jack Grealish (£7.0m). That’s because opponents Leicester City have conceded 55 chances from their right flank since the restart, more than any other side bar Bournemouth.

However, if the threat of reduced minutes spooks us, whichever attacker is benched on Tuesday could potentially come into the reckoning, be it Bernardo Silva (£6.7m), Riyad Mahrez (£7.3m) or Julian Alvarez (£6.0m). Defensive coverage is probably required, too, with goalkeeper Ederson (£5.4m) the safest route in.

As for Spurs, Harry Kane’s (£11.7m) 6.6 points per start this season ranks second among all players with meaningful game-time, only behind Haaland, while wing-back Pedro Porro (£4.8m) has a goal and assist in his last four starts. In that time, he has attempted five shots in the box and created seven chances.

    Crystal ball question. Who to put the money on for a clean sheet;
Raya and Mee away to Wolves
    or
Kepa and Estu to spread the risk?

    Cheers all.

You don't need to avoid Wolves entirely in the 'spread the risk' option. Brentford should have the highest CS % but if you want to spread risk maybe Raya & Estupinan

I know what spread the risk means, thanks. Hence why one was chelsea and the other Brighton?

What is your plan to get Salah for DGW34? Or you just gonna ignore him?
Downgrading Kane seems to be easy way to go I'm just thinking he consistently scores and won't be like him back in right after DGW34?

Money itb for Maddison - Salah/KDB this week. The other I will get in 34 with a Saka hokey-cokey or by downgrading a forward

Free transfers will get me this team for 34 by doing Saka Chilwell to Salah Ake.

      Raya Kepa
      Trippier AKE SHAW ESTUPINAN Mings
      SALAH RASHFORD GREALISH MITOMA MARCH
      HAALAND Kane Watkins

I would like Salah for 32, he could go big.

I will probably FH 34 but next week potentially lose Haaland again for Salah at home to Forest. Then bring the city man back after Arsenal.

I'm likely to ignore. Won't be captaining him from dgw34 until end of season (unless Haaland gets injured) and it's too much upheaval to try and shoehorn him in.

Would need to take hits to fit Salah in (Kane would have to go) and not sure if it's worth it

Depending on how it plays out, I’m maybe looking at Luis Diaz as my entry into Liverpool attack for 34. Liverpool too up and down this season for me to rip up my plans just for Salah whereas Diaz or Gakpo may be the one for me. Salah might be off penalties too.

Do you already have Grealish? If it doesn't compromise you team for gw32, he's probably gonna be the most transfers in player this week

Seems like a good time to hop on Salah. Leeds defence is especially weak down his flank. Only question is whether Liverpool's dreadful away form warrants overlooking fixtures like this. I do like Olise & will probably get him on FH32. Still have a a slight doubt whether Palace's massive shift in attacking form is sustainable but he's a fine enabler

Depends if your team is already set up for blank gw32. If set for 32, dbl gw 34 or 37 may be a better time for the FH

Grealish seems to be the flavor of the week. But moving for him will mean I need to take a fifth consecutive points hit. Alternative option is one of Eze or Olise using FT. Opinions?

Not stupid if you think that KDB will go big against Leicester and as part of structure adjustment in advance of GW34. No guarantee KDB will start though which would be my concern (and similar with Grealish)

    Who would you field GW31?

    a} Mee (wol)
    b) Botman (avl)

Mee possibly best chance of a CS this week, Chilwell has the most attacking threat IF he starts.

Pretty much forced to now since I've been ignoring the blank, but not at all unhappy with it since its not difficult to get to my ideal GW34 team with FTs and a -4 in 34

Yeah it’s not the worst scenario, can manage 32 and then try and set up well for 34. I might need a -8 for that.

I'm stuck in the middle of the two strategies - I've got 6 who blank in 32, but two of them are Rashford and Shaw so it feels optimal to get rid of them if they are not going to be available for a few weeks, which then makes me lean towards trying to get 11 out in 32 and FHing in 34.

Thinking of biting the bullet and taking another -4 for Shaw & Rashford > Konaté & Sancho. Can't afford TAA or Robo so hoping for LIV clean sheets, probably playing K instead of either Estu/James in GW31. Would play Sancho until Rashford returns. Any sense in this?

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I don't really like it tbh. Might as well chase leprechauns rather than Liverpool CS. I didnt actually see the Everton game - was Sancho that impressive? Looked pretty poor to me from what I have seen lately

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 3 Years

Haha, yes, take your point re LIV cs. Next 3 fixtures look better for them though and I get a GW34 double. Looking at Sancho for the NFO game and also a GW34 double. But you're right, neither are particularly inspiring. Just feel carrying Rashford & Shaw on the bench between now and GW34 is a bit wasteful.

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          2 years, 8 months ago

Yeah I just don't trust them for a CS away at all, regardless of the fixtures. Fulham (H) maybe. Tbf Konate looked pretty good especially in the 2nd half v Arsenal, but Klopp's experiment with Trent inverting as DM looks worrying for their defence if Robbo is still bombing into the opposition box. So if gettting Liverpool defender I would try to squeeze my way to Trent just for that attacking threat, even it costs you a Man Utd mid.

If I dont try to force Salah in for 32, I could just do something like Shaw + Rash to Botman + Martinelli for free this week and next week do March to Eze/Olise FT. Would give me a GW 32 with no hits of:

          Raya
          Botman, Zinc, Mings, Tripp
          Saka, Martinelli, Maddison, Olise

Personally, if taking hits, I'd rather use these towards building a solid DGW team where the hits are mitigated to some extent, rather than on a makeshift team for the blank.

You'll also likely want Shaw and Rashford back in your permanent squad after the double and would therefore need to use a further two transfers to do so.

1FT 1.2 itb, got wildcard and bench boost, but no FH...wildcard now, or take hits for BGW32? The injuries lately are problematic...

Plan was to navigate 32 with FT, WC in 33 and BB in 34...thoughts?

    Kepa (Forster)
    Trippier - Estupinian - Botman - Tarkowski - Saliba
    Salah - Mitoma - Maddison - March - Rashford
    Haaland - Toney - Darwin

Getting a full squad for 32 means I need a -8; is there any real reason not to wildcard now? I could navigate the BGW and still have a good lineup for DGW34, but risks new injuries, albeit I'd have FTs for 34...
