FPL Gameweek 3 team news: Friday’s live injury updates

The remaining pre-Gameweek 3 manager press conferences take place today – and we’ve got the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) injury updates here.

This is a ‘live’ article and will be updated as and when the pressers are staged on Friday. Make sure to hit refresh for the latest news.

There are 15 in all, with the latest on James Maddison (£7.6m), Julio Enciso (£5.4m) and Luke Shaw (£5.5m) awaited.

FRIDAY’S PRESS CONFERENCE TIMES

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Ange Postecoglou revealed that James Maddison (knock) had trained “unrestricted” on Friday, with the signs positive that he will be available for the trip to Bournemouth.

“Madders trained today unrestricted, so we’ll see how he pulls up. At this stage, it looks like he will be available but I will assess how he feels.

“People would have seen him in a moon boot and thin it’s more serious, but it was more precautionary. We’ve been pretty careful with him. There was no real push to have him available, we left it up to him. He has felt good and probably could have trained yesterday, but the medical team wanted to make sure he’s okay. Again, it just depends how he pulls up, but obviously nothing serious.” – Ange Postecoglou

Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring), Bryan Gil (groin), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee) and Alfie Whiteman (ankle) remain on the sidelines.

ARSENAL

Takehiro Tomiyasu (suspended) has joined Jurrien Timber (knee) and Mohamed Elneny (knee) on the sidelines for the visit of Fulham but Gabriel Jesus (knee) has made a swifter-than-expected recovery.

The Brazilian has trained this week and Mikel Arteta gave him the all-clear to at least be in the squad to face Fulham.

The Arsenal boss confirmed that he had no fresh injury concerns for Saturday’s match.

Arteta unsurprisingly didn’t tell us if Gabriel Magalhaes was going to start in Gameweek 3, offering a straight bat when asked about a potential move elsewhere for the Brazilian.

“Gabby is a really important player for us and there’s nothing going on with that at the moment.”

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

The rumours were true about a serious knee injury sustained by Julio Enciso in training.

Roberto De Zerbi confirmed on Friday that the young attacker, a positional rival of Joao Pedro, was now set for a “long period” on the sidelines.

As a word of warning to Pedro owners, however, De Zerbi said that the Seagulls would “need another attacker” as a result of Enciso’s lay-off.

The Brighton boss did a mini-Bielsa and confirmed that Evan Ferguson would start against West Ham United this weekend.

It was also perhaps noteworthy that the question that prompted the small team reveal also included Pedro:

Reporter: “Lots of fans are excited about Evan Ferguson and Joao Pedro… maybe with Julio’s injury, do you see maybe the two of them potentially playing together?”

De Zerbi: “Tomorrow, Ferguson plays in the first XI.”

LIVERPOOL

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been passed fit to feature against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The right-back picked up a knock in last weekend’s win over Bournemouth but has got the green light from Jurgen Klopp this morning.

Alexis Mac Allister is also free to play after his three-match ban for serious foul play was overturned on appeal.

Thiago Alcantara (match fitness) and Curtis Jones (ankle) miss out, however, while Ibrahima Konate (muscle) is a fresh concern.

“Trent, yes. Thiago, from Monday on. Curtis, from Monday on. Ibou is a doubt. Playing 40 minutes with 10 men [last weekend] didn’t help! That’s the situation. The rest should be available.” – Jurgen Klopp

That last line from Klopp suggests all is well with Luis Diaz, who needed treatment against the Cherries shortly before being replaced.

Wataru Endo got more minutes than expected off the bench in Gameweek 2 and Klopp hinted that he still might not be considered for a start on Tyneside.

“After one and half days, half a session, playing in a team with 10 men, it’s really difficult and he did really exceptionally well with that.

“Now we have him here three sessions this week. He looks good, he is a good player. But I really think, if it would be that easy to bring someone in… and it would work out perfectly after three days, why do we train with all the others for so long? We could just do it always like that, bring them together and play the weekend.

“No, it was not expected [that Endo would get so much game-time], we had him on the bench to bring him but obviously later in a slightly different situation.” – Jurgen Klopp

Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss again poured cold water on stories linking Mohamed Salah with a move to Saudi Arabia.

“It’s difficult to talk about media stories because there is nothing to talk about from our point of view. We don’t have an offer, Mo Salah is a Liverpool player.

“There’s nothing there. If there would be something, the answer would be no.” – Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah

MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United had already confirmed that Mason Mount (muscle) and Luke Shaw (muscle) had joined Rasmus Hojlund (back), Tom Heaton (calf), Kobbie Mainoo (ankle), Amad Diallo (knee) and Tyrell Malacia (knee) on the sidelines ahead of the Nottingham Forest game.

Erik ten Hag said in his pre-match presser that Mount and Shaw would be unavailable for “a period”, with the latter out for longer.

“We can’t [offer a timeline], it’s personal these days. They will be [out] for some period. Luke will be longer. Mason, I think, quicker.

“It will also take a few weeks before [Malacia] will be back.” – Erik ten Hag

Hojlund trained for the first time with his new team-mates on Friday and could be back in Gameweek 4.

“Today, for the first time, he came into team training. Next week we expect him to do a full week with all the team training. So he’s very near to making the squad.” – Erik ten Hag on Rasmus Hojlund

News is also awaited on Harry Maguire after he missed out against Spurs with a minor knock.

MANCHESTER CITY

City assistant coach Juanma Lillo faced the media in the absence of Pep Guardiola, who is recovering from back surgery.

Lillo confirmed that Bernardo Silva has trained this week after illness.

Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring) and John Stones (hamstring) remain out.

New signing Jeremy Doku could also be involved but the pre-match comments from City assistant boss Juanma Lillo (“right now, it’s not about him and placing responsibility on him”) suggest a cameo at best at Bramall Lane. 

ASTON VILLA

Emi Martinez will be assessed ahead of the trip to Burnley after he felt discomfort in his calf in Wednesday’s win over Hibs.

Villa revealed that the goalkeeper missed training on Friday.

New signing Nicolò Zaniolo is available to make his debut but Philippe Coutinho (hamstring), Tyrone Mings (knee), Emi Buendia (knee), Jacob Ramsey (foot) and Alex Moreno (hamstring) remain out.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Joelinton has been passed fit to face Liverpool, having recovered from the knock he picked up against Manchester City last Saturday.

New arrival Lewis Hall is in contention albeit lacking in match fitness, while Javier Manquillo returns to training today after a month on the sidelines with a groin injury.

Long-term absentees Joe Willock (hamstring) and Emil Krafth (knee) remain out.

“Joe is fine. We didn’t see him in the early part of the week but he trained in the latter part so fingers crossed he’s OK.

“[Lewis] is fit, he’s in contention. He’s obviously done minimal training with us.

“[Javier] is back with us, he went for a period of treatment abroad. But he’s back and we hope he’ll train today.

“[Willock] is making good progress. This is probably the strongest he’s looked in terms of his hamstring. He had it re-scanned a couple of days ago and the report back was very good, no problems. He’ll be training with us around his the international break and he’s a massive player.” – Eddie Howe

BRENTFORD

Josh Dasilva is out “for months” after suffering a hamstring injury in Brentford’s 3-0 win over Fulham last week.

Shandon Baptiste faces a similarly long spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder in training.

Ben Mee (calf) is also unavailable this weekend but Thomas Frank revealed that he plans to start him against Newport County in next Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie, so the veteran stopper should come back into the thinking in Gameweek 4.

Ivan Toney remains suspended.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

George Baldock (calf) and Oli McBurnie (foot) have resumed training this week but Max Lowe has joined a lengthy injury list ahead of the visit of Manchester City.

Cameron Archer‘s move to the Blades is imminent but Paul Heckingbottom revealed that the striker hasn’t been signed in time to face Manchester City.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Will Hughes (knee), Matheus Franca (back) and Michael Olise (hamstring) are still unavailable, while Malcolm Ebiowei and Nathan Ferguson have been training with the academy as part of their rehabilitation and also remain out.

Roy Hodgson said that Hughes should be back in training next week.

WEST HAM UNITED

Nayef Aguerd will serve a one-match ban after being sent off last weekend, while new signing Konstantinos Mavropanos isn’t fit enough to feature against Brighton.

“No, he’s not fit at the moment. He had a couple of injuries when he came in, which slowed things down a little bit.

“We don’t think it’s too serious. We’ve got one more game after this before the international break, hopefully we’ll see him certainly before the end of that.” – David Moyes on Konstantinos Mavropanos

BOURNEMOUTH

Other than Lewis Cook (hip), Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola isn’t expecting any of his injured contingent back over the next week of league and cup action.

Tyler Adams (hamstring), Adam Smith (muscle), Ryan Fredericks (calf), Marcus Tavernier (unspecified), Emiliano Marcondes (foot), Alex Scott (knee) and Dango Ouattara (ankle) remain on the sidelines.

 “I think [Adams and Scott] are not close. They need time.

“The club signed the players knowing they would be out for some games and I think Tyler should be earlier than Alex. Alex probably is the one who will spend more time out. But neither of them are close to playing a game right now.

“From the past week, I think it is going to be difficult to recover anyone else. Probably the closest one, and we are also thinking in the next week we are playing three games, will be Lewis [Cook]. I think he will be able to help us during the week but I don’t expect anyone else for tomorrow’s game.” – Andoni Iraola

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

There are no injuries to report from the Wolves camp but Matheus Nunes will miss the trip to Everton after being sent off for two bookable offences last weekend.

BURNLEY

Vincent Kompany didn’t bring us much on the team news front in Friday’s presser.

Michael Obafemi (hamstring) is the only Burnley player we know of who is definitely out of the Aston Villa game because of injury, while Anass Zaroury begins a three-match ban and will also miss out.

Jordan Beyer seemed to be struggling when coming off against Manchester City a fortnight ago, meanwhile, so there is a bit of concern about him
