I'm sticking with Jackson for another couple of games yet. If it clicks for him, then he's got so much potential for points - but he's missed some good chances so far. Think he's shown enough to be worth sticking with for now though

One day they should just consolidate all international breaks to the end of the season so regular seasons can just go straight through. It would be interesting to see how it would affect form and consistency also.

They really are. I found it odd that experienced FPL players were bringing in Sterling over Maddison. It's like they have a real inability to learn valuable lessons. All based on him doing well Vs a ridiculous Luton side. No words ..

    Hi All

I want to make more logical transfers this season and want to experiment with following a transfer decision process before making a transfer. What do you think of the below? anything missing etc?

Key FPL transfer decision making process.

    1. Nailed on (90% expected starts over medium term)
    2. Good fixtures (generally next 6 fixtures) or good rotation (eg cheap defenders)
    3. Good xGI or good team defensive stats (factoring in past fixture difficulty)

Alternative FPL transfer decision making factors.
Only consider the below if the above 3 key factors are ticked.

    Ownership:
Consider viable differentials that are less popular. For example, fullbacks in the same team with similar stats.

New players to the premier league and the eye test:
Use the eye test to see if they are performing or flattering to deceive. They may always have low conversion rates for example because they aren’t that good.

Team form and the eye test:
If the player is in a team where the wider attack is struggling, consider if there is sufficient supply/finishing ability in other positions.

    OOP:
If the player is playing in a more advanced position and this is likely to be sustained.

    Penalties/set pieces:
Provides an additional avenue for points.

Be cautious of players who get a big haul after a run of blanks .
      I'm talking about Son/Sterling etc .
We expect the big score to be the new norm but in reality the previous form is more likely .
Go for slow & steady form like Bowen & Maddison

Is that not covered by the first three points? Note in point 3 I've considered past fixtures which includes difficult fixtures. I guess I could make that more clear. Perhaps, historic performance could be a category?

That might work until boxing day before relegation battle starts becoming more serious.

I prefer targeting teams with injuries, bans, poor form, manager sacking rumours, distraction by playing mid-week while others rest.

I think your first 3 points are all perfectly sensible, and the number 1 rule remains 'don't chase last week's points'. Lots of other good suggestions from you and others below too. Perhaps a couple more I could add:

      - Consider how both the player's team and opposing team play. E.g., I held onto Rashford because I thought he might get a chance on the break v ARS, and lo & behold he scored. Or, I've usually avoided wide players from MCI, as they tend to stay out wide while city crowd round the opposing box.

      - You could even go into greater detail and look at individual player match-ups in a particular game, but that's quite short-term and probably overthinking it.

I didn't have the best start this year, but have been making progress each week just by being patient, making transfers after the pressers and not taking hits.

Just to continue that idea - I'm looking at Son vs Sheff Utd and want to consider the following before I bring him in or not:

How do Sheff Utd usually defend?
Which side do they concede more chances from?
Does Son usually prosper more against a high line or a low block?

I'd expect him to get a lot of chances vs Ars and Liv, so could be a good move regardless.

Always make transfers for a few weeks ahead, not for 1 week - any single week is unpredictable.

What non-PL fixtures does the team have and might that impact the player?

Think about who you are transferring out as well as who you're bringing in. If it's a long-term injury then fine, but if not, why will the new player outperform the exising player? Has something fundamental changed? Is that backed up with statistics, change in position, falling out of favour?

        1) How good are the teams upcoming fixtures (with most impetus on the next fixture, then the next 3 after that (so 4 gameweeks ahead).
        2) Of the teams with the best fixtures who are the best and second best asets to own from that team (mainly based on past form/points and npXG + XA, even for defenders but do consider other things too)
        3) Are those factors above better than the player I am looking to transfer out?
        4) If unsure or playing with multiple options/routes, do nothing, as i'm probably tinkering for the sake of it.

This week is a perfect example, have 2FT's, I would very much like a Spurs player for the next 4 (as think they'll do well in all, easy fixture, derby could be anything, pool defense poor, easy fixture).
Best assets are Maddison then Son (in my eyes)
Existing midfield is Salah, Saka, Bruno, Mbuemo, Diaby (who actually all have good fixtures this week anyway)
Have tinkered lot's of routes to Maddo or Son (have 2 FT's) which tells me I'm probably indecisive so will likely just stick (caveat being if Salah leaves or an international injury pops up then it's an easy switch to Son or Maddo)

Buy players in or coming into form with good fixtures and a history of returning well.

Preferably to replace low scoring players in your team who are not returning or coming into very hard fixtures

True but I don't think Arteta is done yet with his experimenting. Arsenal have not been great and the problem is that he has too many attacking toys at his disposal plus his antics with the defence. Think there will be quite a bit of chop and changing to come.

Saka only one to own but I am thinking moving him on.

Don’t disagree. But back to original post, looking at last season Nketiah played more in Europe whereas Jesus was the mainstay domestically. Jesus also the more well-rounded player. He’ll have the lion’s share of the bigger games imo

He has made 5 saves this season. The problem with him is conceding one goal and being a spectator for the rest of the match.

Only because of his two clean sheets GW1 and 2. Last season he only kept 11 clean sheets.

I am not saying he is a bad option, just that you are not going to get double digit hauls, bonus or that many save points.

      Who to drop for Maddison?

      1) Rashford
      2) Bruno
      3) Saka
      4) Eze - means Jackson -> max 5.9 as second striker (Archer/Edouard/Morris) or Dias -> max 4.3 (Gusto) as third defender

I'd sell Bruno. They both face Burnley but Sterling's fixtures are way too good. Bruno faces Brighton, Brentford, Palace in next 4 who are all decent defences. Sterling faces Bournemouth, Fulham, Villa who have been suspect in defence.

I am wondering if Poch is not going to play Sterling down the middle. They are struggling to score goals and they won't play Luton each week. Jackson is not helping them hogging all the chances and being wasteful.

Want Onana out, Leno is the best choice but Areola allows Kabore/Baldock to Udogie however i then have to play one of Turner/Areola v mci/liv.

        Turner
        Chilwell Estupinan Saliba
        Salah Rashford Saka Mbeumo Mitoma
        Haaland Wissa

You're more likely to see some upside on defenders than the keepers so not a terrible idea, it gives you a reasonable bench option. Just have to accept that the rotation on the keepers will leave a few games where they both have a tough game

I am not too bothered about clean sheets this season. UTD's fixtures are pretty good and if I am going to punt one of their assets, it would be Reguilon. Needs to start though!

The guy can't defend. It will be hilarious to watch Maguire trying to cover for him when he's out of position.
Dalot must start. ETH should have got an emergency CB who's better than Evans instead of an unneeded Regulion.

ETH wanted to get rid of Maguire, West Ham were going to sign him but UTD board blocked the deal so I am pretty sure he was trying to get in another CB.

Not quite, Maguire insisted on a £7 million pay-off. The board should have given it to him, sold him for £30M and got Pavard.
