A lot of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, just like myself, are in the market for a mid-priced midfielder – and it isn’t a very easy decision.
There are many options at this price point. The primary three contenders for me are Cole Palmer (£5.3m), Anthony Gordon (£5.9m) and Brennan Johnson (£5.8m). Some people are also considering Hwang Hee-chan (£5.6m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.7m), so I’ll also cast a slight eye on them in this article.
RECOVERY TIME: FIXTURE OVERVIEW
First, let’s have a look at the schedule (click the above image to expand).
Newcastle United are the only team in this pool that have only a two-day gap between all their fixtures between Gameweek 15 and 17, which includes a very important UEFA Champions League match at home versus AC Milan. Not just that, they also have a two-day gap between Gameweeks 18 and 19. Now this could also be good for Gordon, who has played 90 minutes in all of his last four Premier League outings. He also plays striker in the last 15 minutes when Eddie Howe decides to give his striker, Alexander Isak (£7.9m), a rest, which works in his favour as he’s the last man when the game is stretched and has already found a couple of goals in such a manner.
In comparison, Tottenham Hotspur have a much more obliging schedule, with only two games in this stretch being played after a two-day rest period. It is worth noting that the first pair of such games are both at Spurs, which will help. That said, it should be mentioned that Johnson has only just returned from injury and has looked leggy towards the end of games.
Palmer’s schedule is somewhere between Newcastle and Spurs in terms of hecticness but the big problem for them is the Gameweek 18 to 20 period, where they have three games in six days.
Wolves are in a similar situation to Chelsea, whereas Nottingham Forest’s schedule is never really that big of a problem as it is as spaced out as the Spurs schedule is.
