Attention is still very much on events at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon.
The match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was abandoned just after the hour mark after the visitors’ Tom Lockyer required medical attention from on-site paramedics.
The Luton skipper was eventually stretchered off, with media reports encouragingly suggesting he was “alert and responsive”.
The Hatters confirmed that in a statement, adding that Lockyer had been taken to hospital.
The defender’s on-field collapse was later attributed to a cardiac arrest.
“We all hope and pray for our leader and captain Tom Lockyer, who is thankfully responsive and has been taken to hospital.
“We don’t know the full extent of what happened and what the next steps are at this stage, but we thank Bournemouth and the medical staff on both sides for their immediate response, which was absolutely amazing.
“We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that, and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances having had to deal with the situation.
“We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks’ name inside the stadium at such a difficult time. Now is the time for all of our players, staff and supporters to come together as we always do and give our love and support to Tom and his family.
“Our thoughts are with him and them all.” – Luton Town statement
We will keep you posted on any further relevant updates and, of course, our own thoughts remain with Lockyer, his family and all at Luton Town.
In events of very much secondary importance, Burnley take on Everton in the late kick-off.
The hosts make two changes from the side that drew 1-1 at Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.
Hannes Delcroix and Jacob Bruun Larsen replace Johann Berg Gudmundsson and the banned Charlie Taylor.
Lyle Foster is a welcome face among the substitutes, having had a recent spell away from the game to receive treatment for his mental health.
Sean Dyche makes four changes from the 2-0 win over Chelsea, all of them enforced.
Amadou Onana, Nathan Patterson, Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey all come into the side.
Idrissa Gueye, Jarrad Branthwaite, Ashley Young and Vitaliy Mykolenko miss out, the first two through suspension and the other two because of injury.
