That's a fair few PL teams kept apart, should be a bigger blank in 34 by probability.

Ruben Amorim beat Manchester City at their own ground, got a draw at Liverpool's ground, and now beat Arsenal at their own ground.

I know some of our fans are annoyed but cups are not a sign of progress

Every season up until now, we’ve gone forwards with Arteta. Let’s see how this one ends

Cups can be won through luck of the draw as much as anything. Look at Southgate. Saying that Arsenal have definitely regressed in the league. Might be the 2nd best team still but by virtue of the City collapse and both been overtaken by Liverpool

The fact that ten hag won more trophies than arteta is very very very funny.

But in reality, if you’re being honest with yourself, you know Ten Hag didn’t do anywhere near as good of a job as Arteta has done

Winning the FA Cup made man united waste 4 months

It’s also Arteta’s first job. I’m not saying he’s perfect, just that the league and champions league are where you see real progress

"Ten hag didn't do near as good of a job as arteta has done" based on what??

The objective of a football team is to win trophies.

          Ten hag 2
          Arteta 1

Arsenal going backwards and I am here for it, they are EASILY the most unlikable team in the prem

Arteta changed the mood of the fans, we were miserable before he came along. Has us challenging for the premier league each season now and he had an absolute dross squad

Ten Hag had a decent squad and made a mess of it, making it worse. Now he’s sacked

Arteta has finished second for 2 years I think? & Is now watching a premier league newcomer romp to winning the league, it's not progress, he's doing enough not to be even considered getting sacked but team is kinda stagnating due to over reliance on set pieces & having jesus and havertz as forwards

Must be some massive questions being asked of Arteta now though - had some extremely favourable draws over the last couple of seasons and not been able to get it over the line, and the season Pep has an off year, Liverpool's brand new manager leapfrogs you.

Doesn't help that he's spent a massive amount of money spent, and there are still some gaping holes in the squad (a proper finisher today and you score as many as you want). Be interesting to see if you get someone in now, especially with Jesus going off injured.

      1. Qaiss

Havertz just isn’t a consistent finisher which is frustrating. Yeah, not making the most of Man City’s off season is really annoying too

We’ll see how this one ends and I still think Arteta has one more season like I mentioned above. I doubt we will sign anyone this window, unless they’re willing to spend £70m+

Someone like Osimhen would do wonders for you, but his price probably just doubled. I agree that Arteta gets at least another season though, unless you have an unpredictably huge collapse and miss a Champions League spot.

The problem (for everyone) is, City will be looking to do an absolute madness in the summer.

Problem is that when we don’t have our best XI, or you take one key part of it out, our performance level drops too much

We’ve been fortunate with injuries in the last two seasons, so maybe it’s fair enough but that too is frustrating

You've got the same problem with Saka that Spurs had with Kane - it's almost impossible to find a good backup willing to sit on the bench for 90% of the season, so you end up having a huge drop-off when they're injured because you either play a starting-quality player out of position or start someone terrible (Sterling).

Absolutely agree with all of that - some things are out of his control (he's had some key injuries, but who hasn't), but others are more concerning if you're an Arsenal fan, like his seeming insistence he doesn't need a striker. Being a soft sod with a fondness for underdogs, rescues are my favourite breed, but it feels that Arsenal are reaching the limits of that strategy.

I think it’s highly likely Pep and Man City are finished as a force in the premier league. I know this opinion upsets people but when people quote what arteta has spent and then compare that to pep it’s about half. Arsenal keep finishing second, there only has to be one team better than them and if that team out spends you by a huge margin then it’s difficult. Pep in my mind is a chequebook manager and since he’s not allowed to spend endlessly you’ll not see Man City at the top. I think people underestimate the role money has played in pep’s reign at Man City. New era now.

Plus the way Pep has crumbled in front of his players and the wider football observers I believe he has lost something he’ll never get back. I don’t believe he’ll ever be able to command quite as much control over a group of players ever again. Even the biggest Pep fans must be shocked not just with the run but the way pep fell apart.

Guardiola has spent a fortune, but he's also dominated the league since he joined. He's also had double the amout of summer transfer windows, so Arteta spending half as much to win nothing just undermines your point really. You can have whatever opinion of Guardiola in your mind as you like, it doesn't make it so.

City went like 10 games this season without a win and they're still only 6 points off second (the same points as Arsenal are off first). They're picking up form now while Liverpool and Arsenal are both having a wobble - would it really surprise you to see them go on a run and pass both of them with half a season to play?

          1. Frank Bruno Guimaraes
            • 1 Year

I agree an opinion does make it so. Unfortunately we’ve never seen pep without a massive budget so it’s also just opinion he could prosper without the obscene spending. Arteta didn’t inherit anywhere near as good a squad as Pep did. Pep had the best squad by a mile at the time of him taking over. My point is only undermined if you fail to consider player inflation (built a top player when pep too charge was less and has increased since largely because of Man City’s money) and the relative starting position of the two squads when each manager took charge.

This is just pure revisionist nonsense. Guardiola inherited an aging side, that had just finished 4th in a poor league, with a mix of finished and bad players.

The best managers get to manage the best clubs who spend the most money. This “Pep needs to manage Stoke” mindset is just stupidity.

You are very rude with your replies which I can tolerate. But this is my point. If you criticise Pep then some people get so upset they have a go at the person holding that opinion. Try and play the ball and not the man. I don’t care if Man City finished 4th that season , they had the best squad in my opinion which underperformed that year.

I understand and agree with your point about top manager generally manage top teams, I don’t go along with your stoke analogy either. The better question to consider that if pep had taken over at arsenal when arteta did could he have won the league. This is also based on a good manager having an established team having spent £1b on their team.

Being rude doesn’t make your opinion right, it just means you are more closed off to another view point. That’s fine until you are wrong.

If he was up against a Man City side who were £800M ahead in player signings and a Man City with a very good manager. I am not sure he would. It’s hypothetical. What we know for sure, if you hand Pep the biggest budget in the league he will get the job done. He’s proven at that and I can have no other opinion . As we’ve seen not every manager who gets to buy big relentlessly can get success.

Whilst you may be correct I suspect other managers given the Man City squad he was given and the budget he was allowed would have emulated pep’s achievement or come close. It is possible that he’s the best manager with the biggest budget. Then I’d be wrong. If Pep can win the league again with Man City now or in the future under completely different circumstance to when he took over, I will happily concede I was wrong and he’s just the best about. But I believe Man City will be restrained in the market and pep’s model of buying in players to fit his system will fail.

Klopp, arteta (He could buy haaland to), zidane, ancelotti, Mancini, emery, Howe. I believe these managers could potentially win with an almost unlimited budget. You’ll no doubt disagree but this is my point. I accredit a bigger proportion of Man City’s success to money than you. Could pep have won 7/8 premier leagues with half the budget ?

Arteta has done many things well, the gap is the insistance with training flexible players in lieu of a larger squad seems odd. Are we short on revenue? Odegaard and Rice arent replacable within the squad and it shows everytime they are injured/rest.

    Salah - Palmer - Mbuemo - Semenyo
    Jackson - Isak - Cunha

    Fabianski - Konsa - Winks - Keane

Sanchez and Jackson might have to go even though they have plum fixtures - what moves are you making here?

Was keen on bringing in Mateta for Watkins. Not sure now with his illness. Odds of him starting against Leicester on wednesday?

Good to see more blind quoting of fixture ticker without any context.

So much analysis and content is based on a data source that is fundamentally subjective and rarely updated. I think a more interesting view would be looking at supposedly easy fixture runs and analysing how they actually look

Arsenal just are not good enough to win the league. Shame for their fans, the season City falter they arent able to capitalize on anything. Massive fail from Arteta.

Arteta has clearly resorted to dark arts and playing dirty thinking it will be enough to finally get over the line. It just makes them more despised.

Arsenal first xi is but they rely too much on all key players remaining fit. As a squad they're not good enough to win the league

Two seasons ago it was the saliba injury
This season its ode and Saka taking turns
Last season 89 points usually is good enough to win the league. That was about the peak for this team

Who to start? Think West Ham looked better in Potter's first game and LIV defence does concede thanks to brain farts from the likes of Trent

    A - Wood (LIV)
    B - Raul (whu)

Used one of my FTs on Odegaard > Bruno. I have 2 FTs left with 0.0ITB. Would you say this is good to roll and correct bench?

    Raya
    Trent, Robinson, Colwill
    Salah, Palmer, Fernandes, Rogers
    Isak, Jackson, Pedro

    Fabianski, Semenyo, Konsa, Davis

Kind of ironic that Arsenal wear all white to increase knife crime awareness and Zirkzee does his trademark machine gun celebration at the end.

Speaking as a former goalkeeper, that was the worst goalkeeping performance I have ever seen from a goalkeeper in a penalty shootout by Raya. He literally vacated the goal for all 5 penalties.

Yeah he moved early to the same side every single time. He moved before the penalty takers had taken their last step in some cases. Surprisingly poor from him

He does that all the time. Surprised it's taken this long for people to highlight it. Got lucky Vs Porto last season they didn't notice it

Real - Barca with two Poles from the kick off, never thought I’ll live long enough to witness it.

Little joys when your national team sucks and clubs are non existent in European competitions.
