Aston Villa v Newcastle team news: Four changes for Villa

Villa Park this evening hosts a potentially pivotal match in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification places.

Aston Villa v Newcastle United gets underway at 17:30 BST.

The Villans’ head coach Unai Emery has made four changes to the side that came up narrowly short against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Marco Asensio, Ollie Watkins, Ian Maatsen and Tyrone Mings all come back into the line-up.

Amadou Onana, Marcus Rashford, Lucas Digne and Pau Torres drop out.

For the seventh competitive game in succession, Newcastle United field an unchanged side.

Aston Villa: Martínez, Cash, Mings, Konsa, Maatsen, Kamara, Tielemans, Rogers, Asensio, McGinn, Watkins

Subs: Disasi, Barkley, Rashford, Digne, García, Malen, Onana, Olsen, Ramsey.

    I've always thought the clean sheet rules were harsh.

    6 points at 60 minutes, then any goal conceded after that and you're back down to 2, even if it's a last second goal.

    Would it be better for any clean sheet at 60 minutes gets awarded 4, but then it's a -1 for any goal conceded after that?

    Less anxiety anyhow!

      What's the point of that? You'll still be on the same points as everyone else in the same situation, just the amounts will be inflated. There'd be no advantage.

      That just implies that goals in the final 30 minutes are worth less than those in the first 60.

      The 60 minute rule is to ensure a player makes a sensible contribution to the clean sheet

      Seems fine to me as it currently is. Otherwise would start arguing that a 1st minute clean sheet bust followed by 89 minutes of not conceding deserves points.
