We were treated to goals and clean sheets aplenty in yesterday’s season opener but, for most fantasy managers, today holds higher hopes for a points bonanza. The Dugout Discussion opens as both the champions of England and the champions of Europe take to the stage. The former host Premier League new boys Southampton at 4pm, which is straight after Chelsea’s trip to Wigan. The team news from the DW Stadium is in…

Wigan XI: Al-Habsi, Caldwell, Alcaraz, Ramis, Boyce, Figueroa, McArthur, McCarthy, Moses, Maloney, Di Santo.

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Hazard, Mata, Bertrand, Torres.

Kicking-off his side’s double Gameweek, Roberto Di Matteo is forced to leave out Ramires due to illness, giving Ryan Bertrand an out-of-position start. The rest is as expected, with David Luiz getting the nod ahead of Gary Cahill, and Eden Hazard handed a league debut.

As for the home side, Roberto Martinez can call upon the services of James McArthur after the Scottish midfielder recovered from a knee injury. Elsewhere, Jean Beausejour misses out with Antolin Alcaraz starting in defence. That will likely see Maynor Figueroa pushed up into midfield if Martinez sticks to his 3-4-3 formation.

    Lol stuck to my guns and kept the team as I wanted apart from switching skipper from Frank to Torres. He better get one by Wed 10pm or he's out and I'll keep Frank!!! 🙂

    Least I didn't play Pog for DGW instead of Rooney. Can now cheer him on tnrw night and saved that transfer this week!

    Conclusion of 1st half:

    1. Hazard looking good.
    2. Mata coming far too deep and not really doing much.
    3. Lampard not doing much but scored with a peno.
    4. Wigan looking lively and maybe even the better team but you can't really fault Chelsea for not attacking that much when they're 2-0 up.
    5. Torres taking tips from Chicharito about being off-side it would seem.
    6. 2nd half I imagine will be more of the same except Wigan will open up more and Chelsea might hit them on the break. This will of course happen after Mata has been subbed off for Oscar so I will not get points.
    7. How shit is Ramis?

    Can understand the Torres (c) thing, but why so few opted for Lamps bewilders me. Surely all the evidence pointed to the later being the better choice? Also think maybe quite a few bargain midfielders this season, to allow for a premium frontline (prob Rooney / Aguero / Cisse for me). Question is Michu or Lennon, or both?

      Yeah, I'm thinking the same, I don't think I'll jump on Michu though, I'm thinking Ivan + Torres -> Rooney/RVP -> Swans defender, especially if Ivan is indeed injured.

    Is swapping Ferdinand out for Rangel worth a hit? £6m wasting on the bench for 2 months and I can save £1m. I have my next 2/3 transfers planne and don't want to change my plans so it would involve a hit. Just don't trust Saylor/Cueller/Gunter to cover 2 spots for 2 months.
