This was a Gameweek littered with outstanding performances, particularly in midfield where the array of talent jostling for spots in our squad now presents a major headache. This week’s bumper edition of “Big Numbers” for members carries out the usual exploration of the stats behind the Gameweek, with midfield options across all the price brackets gaining momentum and our keen interest…
The first time Van Persie falls victim to rotation and misses a game is going to sting.
Open ControlsThoughts on this squad, 4 point hit taken. Gonna try and hold off the wildcard until I really really need it
DDG Federici
Ridgewell Demel Baines Cuellar Hangeland
Hazard Yaya Michu Pienaar Miyaichi ( 🙁 )
RVP Tevez GrahamOpen Controlsshame about miyachi, was thinking he'd get more gametime as a starter, graham a worry too(i have him aswell)
the goalie selection shouldn't bite you again as fed shouldn't be missing any matches but DDG might.

Open ControlsI'm not certain but are players values set for a short time after they're added to the game?

Southcoastsaint,
Appreciate you must be horribly gutted after that undeserved defeat but rest assured the rest of the country took notice of the amazing football you were playing!
One thing that caught my eye was that your team shape and movement was pretty unusual, very fluid too. I could barely pin it down. What formation are you playing? My best guess is 4-3-2-1. Who's playing where in that?Open ControlsHe's probably sick of hearing all that.. but I agree 100%.
Always had a soft spot for Saints.
Le Tissier is probably my all time football hero.Open ControlsYep!! It's one of life's enduring mysteries that Le Tiss never became a regular in the England team. Oh wait, he was too skilful for them...
Open Controls
Undeserved in what sense? I agree no one deserves to lose in such a manner but United were better
It looked a 4-3-2-1 with Schneidelen playing the more advanced of the 3 although not always. The 2 behind Lambert seemed to be popping up all over the place thoughOpen Controls+1
Saints must be gutted and I quite like the cut of their jib. Good on them.
But "undeserved"? 100% wrong.Open ControlsThe Saints passing was better for most of the game until the final 20 when their defence completely crumbled. I even remarked on this around the 50 minute mark and there were no objections.
Open ControlsCourse, United had switched to 4-4-2 by that stage, hauled Kagawa off and put Hernandez on and generally gone all out for the win, so in some ways the final part was like a different game, but I am very happy to maintain Saints did not deserve to lose.
Open ControlsThat means nothing, and I could give a rats arse what you said, when, and what the response was.
Did the Saints outplay Utd? Absolutely, and for long periods around the half.
Did Utd come back to win the game? You know they did - and without the penalty that RVP dooshed. To say the win was undeserved is completely inept of you.Open ControlsSo you think they were better at passing for a part of the game, and therefore they didn't deserve to lose? Sorry mate but I don't follow
Open ControlsI'm underplaying it a bit there, helpfully Eric has taken the words out of my mouth by saying the Saints outplayed United.
Now if there it isn't a reason to deserve not to lose I don't know what is.
I'm not disputing that Saints actually LOST obviously! That's life. But you can express whether you thought it was reflective of the game, and I think it is very fair to say it wasn't.Open ControlsFair enough you are entitled to your view *cough* mini-Arsene *cough* but I think we made more chances throughout the game and ultimately it's finishing skills that pay the bills
Open ControlsHaha. See me as Pat Rice actually!
Both defences were crazily open though the Saints defence was definitely worse. They may well get relegated if they continue to defend like that, no matter how good their attack is.
I recall a good few matches Arsenal didn't deserve to win and am quite happy to say so ... in fact one of the best examples was the last trophy we won, the FA Cup final against you guys! We played awful, negative football for the entire match, got to 0-0 and won on penalties. You just couldn't force the ball into the net!Open Controls😀
As Parm says below they could well be this year's Blackpool.
God I remember listening to that match on the radio on the way to playing a Gaelic football match. Heard Scholesey miss the peno, went out and got hammered ourselves and then went home sat next to a Pool fan with a Gooner in front of me. Bad timesOpen ControlsLOL sad times. I'm surprised it didn't get violent 😉
Open Controls
For those who have been watching the Spurs games.
Do Bale keep to the left for most of the game, or is he spending a large part of the game on the right? I think he's useless when he's not playing on the left, so it would be nice to know.Open Controlshe did swap a bit and tried the occasional runs through the middle.
I say boot out as I think he played badly and AVB's tactics not settled yet
,others say be patient with his fixtures. that's the highlights of the discussion about himOpen Controls

Looks like a decent team, just needs a bit of clearing up, Miya and DDG when possible.Open ControlsNo need for WC for that team!

Maybe with Baines you can afford to ship Hang to a 4.0 def to free up some cash? You don't usually play more than 3 at the back so no need for expensive 4th defender.Open Controls

for parmtree question on last page:

granero-sahin-michu-piennar-
carrol-berbatov-cisséOpen ControlsCesar; Rangel, Jagielka, Alcaraz, Baines; Fellaini, Granero; Johnson, Sessegnon, Ramirez; Berbatov
Tbh it just came to I point where I couldn't be arsed to think through it.Open ControlsThink I might avoid the RVP temptation, too much hassle with a wildcard just to have him, I'll regain the points with a tactically played wildcard later on...ahhh it's all very frustrating
Open ControlsI don't have him either. Very worried about missing the boat with his price rocketing but at the moment i'm not planning on getting him. Injuries in the international break could change my mind though
Open ControlsIt also helps when you genuinely dislike the guy like I do. It's the big dilemma, will not getting RVP screw you big time...answer: probably, but how badly do your other players have to do for you to majorly suffer is the real question.
Open ControlsI stayed away from CR7 (£14m) in 08/09 because I couldn't stand the guy and went with Lampard instead. Lampard was a beast that season but I still missed out on some juicy CR7 returns. It just depends on whether you can spend the Rvp cash wisely or not.
Open ControlsI know. When he moved to Utd i thought "i'm not getting him plus he's 13m- too much". But it could be so detrimental to my FPL campaign that i may have to, it would hurt the rest of my team which is doing well though. Difficult decision
Open Controls
RVP needed especially if you don't have Hazard or Tevez?
Open ControlsI don't like him either but he is simply a class act and will punish you imo.. Lots of people will have captained him when he gets his hauls so it will be twice as bad. Maybe his influence will decrease when Rooney returns, who knows..
Open ControlsI feel that as long as he doesn't score hat-tricks every week, which is the scary thing for a non-owner clearly, then it's possible to cope with it. It's these games like yesterday that destroy you overall. I'm probably going to wait one more week and see if what happens at Wigan, his goals today haven't affected me too much.
Open ControlsAlmost everyone that owns RVP will captain him next week. Not captaining RVP vs. Blackburn last season killed me overall and lost me some mini leagues. Imagine if I didn't even own him it would have twice as bad. If he does go wild again and you have to get him, he will be at least 13.6 which will cripple your team further..
Open Controls
OK Zoners,
I can go two directions here:
1) Sacrifice defense and scramble around with the best of the 4.0 patchwork players I can find and write the paycheck for offense:
Vorm/Cerny
Rangel/Hangeland/Figueroa/McCartney/Bennett
Hazard/Kagawa/Michu/Pienaar/Noble
RVP/Tevez/Torres
sell off Pienaar in a few weeks when their run ends, sell off Vorm after week 8, put some of that money into defense.
or
2) Watch RVP blow up and invest in midfield and defense upgrades and end up with this over next couple weeks.
Vorm/Cerny
Koscielny/Rangel/Hangeland/Figueroa/McCartney
Hazard/Kagawa/Cazorla/Michu/Pienaar
Tevez/Torres/diSanto
Anybody?Open ControlsGo for option A.
After years of always having a few decent defenders (6mil and above) this year I have converted to the cheap defenders policy (most expensive defender is 5mil).Open ControlsYou need RVP I think. Get defenders that rotate so you still have decent defenders out each week.
Hughes/Figueroa/Ridgewell/Wilson/Demel = 22.5m but can still have at least 2 out 3 defenders with a good fixtureOpen ControlsThanks for the defense combo suggestion. I think I can limp the above defense along for a couple of weeks in the transition. Fortunately none of RVP/Jelavic/Demel/Hangeland look likely to rise/fall today, so I can mull it over for another day. First move in other dance was Bennet to Koscielny, but they likewise won't budge today.
Open Controls
He should be fine to return for the next gwk as far as I know..

Need a bit of advice
Going to take a 4pt hit so thinking
Defoe > Rvp
Zab > 4 million defender (any suggestions)
or
Defoe > RVP
Bale > Pienaar
Just brought Bale in last week for a hit as wellOpen ControlsOption A (4mil def Davies or McCartney)
If you got Bale for a hit surely you need to give him a few weeks to repay you?Open Controls
Adriano v Valencia a la Ben Arfa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5a09bRgF9MOpen ControlsIf you have Michu then Lambert, if not, then probably Graham.
Open ControlsGraham for now as they have better fixtures although Lambert has scored against City and Utd!
Open ControlsI would keep graham for 1 more week then decide.
Open ControlsLambert is way more of a threat than Graham imo, focal point of southampton attack, Graham (ironically as he's the only striker) is not the focal point of Swansea's.
Open Controls
Scratch - you still there?
Open ControlsS’hampton played really well! so my question is :
a)keep faith in bale and hope they destroy qpr
b)get cazorla and hope the saint won’t do good against the gunners!!!Open Controlscazorla hasn't got great fixtures ahead, bale should continue to disappoint
I may go LampardOpen Controls
Canadian:
DDG-Fed
Terry-Zab-Cuellar-Fabio-Demel
Bale-Kags-Michu-Larsson-Guthrie
RVP-Tevez-Graham
Just Zab+Bale -> Ridgewell+Hazard/Cazrola (-4)??
I need to make transfers quick before Bale drops and Haz rises tmrw.Open ControlsI highly recommend this move
Open Controls-4 only.....i would not take a 8pt hit.
I have some thoughts on the Bale>Cazorla/Hazzard issue.
Imho.....If you have a good captain option for the week, why take a hit to bring in Cazorla/Hazard.
Would you (c) Hazard/Caz next week? Probably not. Bale does have good back to back fixtures.
The decision to take the hit would be PURELY FINANCIAL. I am struggling with the same issue (allthough not taking a hit).
Money aside, the smart move is to fix defense/GK.
The question is with a excellent captian option, is Hazard essential?????Open Controls
A good weekends football indeed. Thought Southampton looked good despite the spanking RVP gave them. Lambert is on the watchlist. Don't know what to make of the rest of united, Kagawa subbed at the hour mark, thought I'd go Cazorla until I saw that he's up against both Manchester clubs over the next couple of GWs.
Is Berbtov a prospect at Fulham? Will spurs continue to disappoint in ff ? Will Jenkinson drop to the bench next week?Open Controlsfor cazorla i'd say form over fixtures because if arsenal played today they will surely get a couple of goals against the f*ecking manchester defence
Open Controlssurely fergie won't stand for that kind of defending again, I bet those defenders will be getting warp 10 hair dryer treatment over the next week
Open Controls
Get Lambert GW5 IMO.
Soton look like the new Blackpool.Open Controls
Morning folks, sorry if been asked before but anyone has the list for the WC qualifier/friendly games next week?
Also we reckon Bent is dropping soon? Worth to -4 him to Poldi? Tempting for the team value but have a feeling he will come good with Swansea's makeshift def next gw.Open Controlswell greetings from Montreal and yes get poldo in
Open Controls
Bent at home to Swansea so i would keep him. Thought he looked good today, as did Villa so would expect them to beat Swansea next gw (wishfull thinking maybe!)
Open ControlsYeah I knew Villa will eventually come good with PL. Just concerned about the team value as he could drop 0.2/3 the next 2 weeks 😐
Open Controls
Sorry cant get on fpl but did ben arfa get any bonus, thanks
Open ControlsJust pulled finger on wildcard , suprised at what good players i can afford despite getting van persie
Foster Jaskelinen
Mccauley jenkinson figueroa demel Clark
Carzola Hazard Michu Pienaar sterling
Tevez torrres Van Persie
Sexy?Open Controlskeepers defender combinations may change , but happy with the template , Dont think having van persie weakens rest of team much
Open ControlsYour rank is great btw... and you have wildcard active? Makes me question my 'comfort' levels with my team and no intention of wildcarding.
PS love that front 3Open Controlsi had a great first two gameweeks , but my team for gameweek 3 was rubbish , would of taken a 16 point hit to sort it out, basically because i couldnt get van persie in without a major shakeup , was also stuck with de gay and the reading keeper , plus had ade and defoe upfront
Open Controls
very
Open ControlsPerfect front 7 but the defence is weak. Still looks decent though
Open ControlsThink it's best in a wildcard to pick a team of near-certain starters. You don't want to be transferring out from the very start, people like Jenkinson, or maybe Sterling, or Torres. I've got Sterling as my single punt.
Open ControlsAgree but surely Torres is nailed on
Open ControlsI not worried much if sterling dosent play much , at 4.5 or whatever he is , he just there to warm bench.
Jenkinson might not go , but as he going to double rise before the two weeks are out it would be rude not to include him until thenOpen ControlsGotta monitor Sterling with caution though, I will be. Otherwise you'll get a Marveaux situation where he gets some ownership (it's already 2% and rising I think) and people sell when he gets benched, then you lose team value.
Yeah keep Jenks for now!Open Controls
* Correction: Torres isn't under starting threat (we think) but it's early days. You can't be sure the goals won't dry up.
Open Controls
Horrible defence.
The way I see it, in this game you're ALWAYS 2 or 3 transfers away from your "perfect" team, apart from WC week. So once the dust settles on GW4 you're going to have to do some dismantling since you've invested all your money up top with presumably nothing in the bank.Open ControlsI actually have Nolan in it for the double rise , but will swap him for pienaar just before deadline day
Open Controls
Depends on whether you're content to forgo some classy defence in order to have a strong front 7. You arguably can't get a better set of strikers at the moment but I worry about choices like Jenkinson when you know he's gone soon.
Open Controls
Is Fletcher worth the 1.0 more than Graham/Lambert/Petric?
I recon so and have now got him in my team (replacing Graham).
Surely will score about 15 (or more) goals this season? ThoughtsOpen Controlsnope, he's injury prone and usually subbed off early i think
Open ControlsHe is injury prone but if you get him with the knowledge that he is liable to break at any stage you will do well with him.
Open Controls
IMO yes. This is my biggest regret so far. Not being able to squeeze him in.
Open Controls
Any input would be appreciated!
Schwarzer (Begovic)
Hangeland Cole Zab (Clyne Demel)
Larsson Hazard Yaya Michu (Guthrie)
Tevez Pod Ade
My trades thus far have been Aguero --> Ade (regretting that but wanted a unique-ish pick after a terrible GW1), Bale --> Hazard (was originally my captain in GW1 but stupidly brought in Mata) and Graham --> Tevez.Open ControlsThe burning question for me - how can I get Fletcher in for Graham in the next three weeks when I don't have the cash??
Open ControlsFoster/Begovic
Baines Boyce Rangel Cuellar Demel
Hazard Kagawa Barfa Michu Sterling
RVP Tevez Graham
0.1 in bankOpen ControlsWait for an injury?
Nothing wrong with that team, though if you want cash Rangel to Davies could be an option once we get a better picture of the Swans LB position.Open ControlsYeah was thinking the same. Great minds... it'll rest on whether Rangel continues to earn the attacking points he looks capable of. If not I can just treat him as another Swansea fullback and get whoever gets nailed at LB.
Open Controls
Walk from door to door and threaten every Fletcher owner to invest in Graham. Sell Graham when you can convert him into Fletcher.
Open ControlsThis is pretty much the easy way out compared to finding sensible transfers to do it.
Open Controls
Seriously think of Rangle and Ridgewell as my high priced defenders.
Although i could see the Manchester teams tightening up the defence when they start to play each otherOpen ControlsWas also mulling over the small team defender v big team defender situation. Surely we can expect big teams to tighten up later in the season?
