This was a Gameweek littered with outstanding performances, particularly in midfield where the array of talent jostling for spots in our squad now presents a major headache. This week’s bumper edition of “Big Numbers” for members carries out the usual exploration of the stats behind the Gameweek, with midfield options across all the price brackets gaining momentum and our keen interest…
My current team is
DDG - Federici
Lescott - Hangeland - Saylor - Demel - Barnett
Silva - Hazard - Michu - Maloney - Guthrie
RVP - Tevez - Graham
Which would be the best transfer or two going into gwk 2
I've been looking at shipping out
- DDG
- Lescott
- Graham
- Guthrie

Anybody dare to predict how many games Jenkinson has before Sagna comes back?
Open Controlsa few. or less. or even more
Open ControlsThere's always a chance Koscielny could go right back for a few games.
Was talking to quite a knowledgeable Arsenal fan today about their defence..... while he doesn't rate Mertesacker that highly as a player he seems quite adamant that Arsenal's defensive success has a lot to do with him because apparently he excellent at getting everyone properly organised which is something they've obviously lacked in recent seasons.Open Controlsdjorou played rb on ocasions too, but with arsenal not conceding surely jenk will start for a little longer?
Open ControlsWenger seems to love having Mertesacker in the back, which is why Koscielny may slide over.
Open ControlsNo chance koscielny will start over jenkinson in RB. Last year it was Sagna>Jenkinson>Koscielny or Djourou. Koscielny said publicly he doesn't like to play there.
Open Controls
2, unless Koscielny slides over to RB.
Open Controlsso that means he is not worth the hit? i don't believe sagna is gonna be back soon. he had broken fibula as i remember.
Open Controlshit?! no way
Open ControlsNever, never, never take a hit for defender. Even if CS is assured and they play the sixty minutes. That's six points less four for two. Which means you would be left with the same if you had some crap back up defender fill in. So you might be asking well what's the difference and, not to sound like some obnoxious econ major but, there's the opportunity cost. You could have used that hit on a hot midfielder.
Open Controlsok than FT for the defender and hazard for the hit. better? i need cash for eden, simple as that and lescot is gonna go.

As a gunners fan, I am not at all impressed they beat the perennial league underachievers, aka Lolerpool.

Open ControlsLads I have a dirty little secret......in a rage at Chicos sending off, general lack of Saturday points and fueled by a bottle and half of red..... I toally played my wild card.
I feel better for sharing.Open ControlsSee my reply to you on last page 😉
Open Controls
You're among friends in that regard.
Open ControlsAhhh....the great game of FPL.
My rage came through when RVP missed is peno.....almost through the TV converter out the window. Thank god my computer was not near.Open Controls
After a glance, it looks like 21 players dropped. Avalanche.
Open ControlsHahaha, I didn't see the game and I don't care if its true, but the sentence on skysports photo, "abou diaby dominates the midfield" is laughable every time.

If my team remains the same and I don't wildcard, my big decision is whether to play McClean or Pog
McClean (LIV)
POG (TOT)
vote?Open ControlsWildcard it is then......
I'd go McClean, think Sunderland are only going to get better.Open ControlsYe but Pog has the better chance of a goal in all likelihood, Sunderland goals will be more spread out I'd imagine.
Open ControlsThen you've answeard your own question then 🙂
Not sure about better chance, agree that Pog is the most likely for reading, but I actually think spurs will improve and the Int break will help them. They've only been a minute or so away from 2 clean sheets and we'd all be asking questions like Vert or BAE?Open Controls
i vote layne staley. guy's bin dead for years... but screw it. AIC Forevs Punklet.
Open ControlsCid Highwind...
Final Fantasy VII fan, are we? 😉
Definitely McClean, it's Liverpool ffs!Open ControlsNo I don't like FFVII, I just like Cid 😉
Ye it was my favourite game back in the day, and re: McClean, you have a point!Open Controls
McClean is a bonus whore even in dire games. You might not even need a score at all
Open Controls
Carzola to rise before next GW?
Open ControlsLads, Matt Taylor likely to lose his spot next week to Jarvis?
Open ControlsI thnik its very likely
Open Controls
Keep Kagawa?
Open ControlsPersonally I wont keep him.
Open Controls
My team is:
Schwarzer / Jaaskelainen
Baines / Zabaleta / Harte / Hangeland / Vertonghen
Hazard / Pienaar / Michu / Kagawa / Noble
Torres / Tevez / Graham
My biggest concern is the lack of RVP. I’m also not happy with Schwarzer, Zabaleta, Harte, Hangeland, Vertonghen, Noble, Kagawa or Graham. I’m seriously considering the WC. I would appreciate any advice going forward into the international break.Open ControlsLots of chat regarding what went wrong for Kagawa today. So I did the obvious thing and went to the Compare Tool, comparing the Southampton match with the Fulham match.
First thing is that as expected, the vast majority of his stats, including most key stats, were better against Fulham. Interestingly though, it does not seem like he had a bad game against Southampton in terms of errors. His pass completion rates were actually better in every area of the pitch against Southampton. However, he touched and received the ball less against Southampton, particularly in the opponent's half and final third.
His average position was somewhat deeper and shifted to the right against Southampton relative to against Fulham. What's interesting is that this position is almost identical to his position against Everton.
The map of his passes is where it gets really striking. Just like his position, his passes are deeper and almost all on the right hand side against Southampton, whereas they are more advanced against Fulham and roughly evenly distributed between left and right sides.
What was the main difference in United's attack against Southampton? Yep, it was Welbeck playing on the left instead of a winger, Young, to complement Valencia on the right. All the above is consistent with Welbeck drifting towards the right, stealing passes from Kagawa and forcing Kagawa to also drift to the right and play deeper, to avoid being in the same space as Welbeck. Consequently Kagawa's passing was deeper, less threatening, and he offered less goal threat. Even though it was accurate, that was missing the point. His job is not to be a reliable midfield passer, but to be a defence splitter.
In this respect Kagawa's perceived bad performance is reminiscent of Rooney's against Everton. Good pass completion in the wrong role.
Finally, who was playing on the left when United failed to score against Everton? Yep, Welbeck again, and as stated, Kagawa's average position is shifted right and deep again.
Night allOpen ControlsKeep him?
Open ControlsIf you can get SAF to promise he will never play Welbeck with Kagawa again... then keep him 😉
Open Controls
Solid analysis mate.
Probably also worth nothing in brackets how Everton and Soton were away games, while Fulham was at OT.
Sleep tight.Open ControlsTrue - it makes for an easy comparison on the Compare Tool between Kag's "bad" away matches and "good" home match.
Sleepy time...Open Controls
god Isacki. i'd bin preying on the ignorant and clueless.... so guys.. ignore this. Alice in chains need to be unleashed on yer clueless bungholes
Open Controlsinsightful.
Open ControlsSaints, I've never commented on gravs before but I have to with yours.
I actually laugh a little every time I see it. I watched Letiss in the studio with Jamie Redknap last night and he was gold. Nothing flashy or controversial...just a top bloke who can sit back and let people replay his insane goals over and over again coz he's got nothing to prove. Good insights into Saints this year tooOpen Controls
My thoughts exactly. Everything changed when Nani came on who played more on his left wing. It freed up a lot more space in the middle of the final third for United.
Open ControlsYeah the comments by Freshy, you and Scratch regarding Welbeck's effect on Kagawa made me want to look for it in the stats - I think it's very much there!
Open Controls
Insightful and I'm sure SAF will be aware as well. "Hey you twat, Welbeck. GTF out of Kagawa's space before I run out of hairdryers"
Open ControlsThe sooner he says this the better!
Open Controls
Not to mention he was closed down more and didn't have as much time and space as he did against Fulham. He'll need to adapt to the more physical opponents. He's smart, I'm sure he'll learn.
He also was part of an overall woeful United team. That hat-trick masked a lot of things that will be revealed in the upcoming game weeks. United still need a decent central midfielder. Kagawa is attack, attack, attack and a great addition but there's one more piece missing in the middle.Let's hope Hector Herrera comes in January.
Oh, his team-mates need to play him the ball much earlier also...Open Controlsbang on Isacki
Welbeck was a bit of a headless chook sometimes
there were times when you could throw a blanket over three united players on the right wing and they were playing really close balls to each other with saints swarming
Kagawa is a very intelligent player and could see that someone had to withdraw for the sake of team shapeOpen Controls
Disappointed to see Southampton lose yesterday.
They were the better team.
They have played really well in all 3 matches but have been very unlucky not to get a single point even. 🙁Open ControlsDeserved a draw alright.
There's already speculation that 'Arry will get the job if (when) Atkins gets the sack. I'm sure Saints fans would just love that 😀Open ControlsTrust me Harry wont be manager at saints. Cortese is way to smart to be drawn in by the ramblings of an aging dodgy alcho.....
I dont get the issue to be hoinest expectations we set pre season we were unlikely to get much from out first 4 games....were on track for that so far 🙂Open Controlsalchemist?
