Sunday Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 5

A huge day of Premier League action sees eight sides do battle, with the ‘Super Sunday’ billing fully justified. The Dugout Discussion opens in time for the first of two televised games – the small matter of Liverpool versus Manchester United.

Despite a lot of the pre-game media attention understandably focusing on events off the field, three points for either side here will be massive. Here’s how the sides line-up…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Gerrard, Allen, Shelvey, Borini, Suarez, Sterling.

Man United XI: Lindegaard, Da Silva, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Giggs, Valencia, Kagawa, Nani, van Persie.

Straight after the game at Anfield, we head over to the Etihad Stadium to see the other Manchester club host Arsenal.

In and amongst those two fixtures, Newcastle United welcome the visit of Norwich City, and Queens Park Rangers take the small journey to their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

        It's kind of hard to pick out essentials at the minute to be honest. Hazard and Michu looked like must-haves and yet they've not got ten points between them in the last two gameweeks..

          Sunderland didn't create that many chances so would be a risk, could pay off

    Hazard -> Fellani, Britton -> Pienaar, Walker -> Baines for -8 pts ?
    Looks crazy at first read, but think about it, Everton is on form and lovely fixtures

    I'm thinking of ditching Hazard.

    So far there seems to be a lot of value in mid-to-high price defenders (Baines, Gibbs, Rafael).

    For Hazard's price I'd want a good captaincy option, which despite yesterdays blank, he remains. But looking at the season ticker, I can't see a chelsea fixture for a good long while, where he would be the outstanding captaincy option. I know they have Norwich in 2 GWs time, but Aguero will have Sunderland at home.

    If I downgraded him to Someone like Gervinho for example, I could upgrade Staylor and Rangel to Gibbs and Baines, and upgrade Tevez to Aguero.

    Is my logic sound?

        He's very expensive for a player you now cannot guarantee will start.

        Aguero is back now and only £1.6m more expensive than Tevez (if you had Tevez at £9m) compared to £2.5 at the start of the season.

        It's hardly foolish to consider it at least...

    So United were awful today, (I'm a united fan) Kagawa shouldn't have played or Nani, Scholes and Cleverly should have been on from the start. If Shelvey wasn't sent off (100% red card btw) Liverpool would have embarassed us!
