A huge day of Premier League action sees eight sides do battle, with the ‘Super Sunday’ billing fully justified. The Dugout Discussion opens in time for the first of two televised games – the small matter of Liverpool versus Manchester United.

Despite a lot of the pre-game media attention understandably focusing on events off the field, three points for either side here will be massive. Here’s how the sides line-up…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Gerrard, Allen, Shelvey, Borini, Suarez, Sterling.

Man United XI: Lindegaard, Da Silva, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Giggs, Valencia, Kagawa, Nani, van Persie.

Straight after the game at Anfield, we head over to the Etihad Stadium to see the other Manchester club host Arsenal.

In and amongst those two fixtures, Newcastle United welcome the visit of Norwich City, and Queens Park Rangers take the small journey to their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

You can follow all the action from all today’s games in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

It's amazing how many terrible referring decisions favour United. The Premier League just isn't a level playing field when it comes to United. I genuinely think the group of Premier League officials need to carefully consider why they seem to subconsciously favour United season after season, perhaps it's the media bias. Its seems referees are unwilling influenced one way or another.

You think spinning off some ill-thought out quasi-scientific logic is an immutable argument? you're an idiot, listen to the entire spectrum of fans, it's only the united fans that refuse to accept the blindingly obvious truth, I don't need some idiot rolling out a pathetically ill-conceived survey to prove the contrary. Not least it was published in a disgraceful right wing joke of paper that lives its own screwed up, self-deluded world.

What a finely-crafted counter-point. I especially enjoyed your use of fact and statistics to completely nullify the argument made.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics....

I re-iterate, I don't fancy relying on someone elses perverse little research to prove what I, and I'm certain many fans, instinctively know to be true.

An individual;s experience is not an inferior argument by the way, its just a lot of idiots reject it in favour of so called evidence..... people like hiding behind statistics and allowing other people to reach conclusions for them. That is what I consider to be ignorance.

So anecdotal evidence is equal to statistical evidence? OK then, you should be a scientist.

No, I said it's not inferior, can't you read?

Scientific analysis is simply one method of trying to understand something. There are lots of examples of 'bad science' if you will, much like the survey you linked.

By the way, seeing as you commented on the username, Plato was a philosopher, not a scientist. Scientist do not have a monopoly on truth, only the ignorant believe that.

If it's not inferior, and it's not superior, it is equal, no?

Scientists are the only ones who can prove what they suggest, by testing it. Admittedly, that study is not perfect, but it's better than your 'instinct'.

Plato was intelligent - hence the irony.

                    It's not a question of inferior/superior/equal

It was you that said evidence v conjecture, which you purposely did to discredit my point, which I found to be very cheap.

Both are relevant. A study usually starts with a hypothesis.

You seem to have contradicted yourself. Plato was not a scientist, but you say scientist are the only ones who can prove what they suggest? Then you say Plato is intelligent?

I suspect you have not read one iota of Plato.

Better teams have more possession, so more likely to attack, so more likely to be in opposition half. More likely to attack, so be in and around opposing box, which leads to a) more fouls from opposition and b) more penalties.

Next you'll tell me the refs favour Utd, City, Real, Barca and so on...

Have you actually read the article. Doesn't sound wholly convincing to me.

"A conscious effort to side with the referee’s decision was made where possible."

            Yeah, okay.

It's the philosophy that's used in cricket and rugby with Hawkeye - only correcting clear errors.

Obviously it's not fool-proof, but it is more evidence-based than the 'Utd always get the decisions!!!!!!!!11111' that you see peddled on here.

Earned himself a reprieve today. Otherwise the cheapo guaranteed front 3 beckons. Shipped Torres last week. Tevez may go tonight. RVP stays.
