As the dust settles on another Gameweek, we roll out our early-week regular. Once again, we focus on the main protagonists in the Scout League, while casting an eye over the transfer market as trades pick up pace on the back of the weekend’s action:

Scout League Standings

Renoir Buffon remains at the top, despite taking a four point hit to get rid of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Cuellar. Jermain Defoe and Branislav Ivanovic were the replacements, with Defoe then handed the armband for a 16 point return. Elsewhere, Ivanovic, Steven Taylor and Liam Ridgewell all chipped in with clean sheets, while Hatem Ben Arfa and Dimitar Berbatov both provided eight points apiece for a Gameweek total of 59 (after points deductions) to leave Renoir sitting ninth overall in the world on 394 points.

Second place goes to the mysterious MP after he racked up 82 point to move to 33rd overall, on 386 points. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Leighton Baines accrued 28 points, while captain Gareth Bale, Kevin Nolan and Steven Pienaar all produced in midfield. Up front, Van Persie, Carlos Tevez and Rickie Lambert notched three goals between them.

Andy Fox sits in third position in the Scout League. Chelsea pair Petr Cech and Ivanovic produced clean sheets at the back, while a strong-looking midfield five of Eden Hazard, Pienaar, Ben Arfa, Santi Cazorla and Shinji Kagawa returned 32 points between them. Berbatov and Tevez led the line in, while Rafael’s 11 point haul at Anfield was left on the bench – despite this, Andy accrued 58 points to climb to 37th overall.

Dave Fitzgibbon slips down to fourth place after a 53 point haul last time out. Rafael and Ivanovic were the main protagonists at the back, while Cazorla, Shane Long and captain Defoe all picked up attacking returns as Dave moved to 384 points overall.

Former world number one Asriel Chen makes up the top five. Ivanovic and Taylor returned clean sheets in defence, while Marouane Fellaini, Demba Ba and captain Van Persie all chipped in as Asriel recorded a 52 point haul, moving him to 48th overall.

For the Contributors League, Anorak takes over at the top. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Baines produced 28 of his 48 points this Gameweek, with Kagawa the only attacking player to pick up attacking points. Andy joins him on 324 points overall but sits second as he’s made the most transfers of the duo.

The Market Trends

Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are picking up plenty of interest ahead of next weekend’s home clash with Southampton. Fellaini is far and away the most popular player this week – over 75,000 Fantasy managers have transferred the Belgian in since his 12 point display against Swansea on Saturday, while Baines has made his way into almost 40,000 new teams.

Ashley Cole and Rafael have both been snapped up by almost 18,000 Fantasy managers as backlines are assessed, while West Brom’s Gareth McAuley continues to prove popular after returning his third home clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Reading. The West Ham backline is tempting plenty right now – Jussi Jaaskelainen, Guy Demel and Winston Reid have been drafted in by a combined 33,000 since last Saturday’s deadline.

Up top, Steve Fletcher and Demba Ba lead the way for transfers in, with 40,000 and 35,000 respectively picking up the mid-price duo, while Rickie Lambert’s brace against Villa has persuaded almost 30,000 to scramble for his signature despite a tricky trip to Everton up next. Dimitar Berbatov continues to climb in price – 21 points in his two starts for Fulham has led to over 20,000 grabbing a piece of the Bulgarian.

In terms of transfers out, the faith in Swansea’s midfield has taken a real battering after another goalless game last weekend. Nathan Dyer has been sold on by over 50,000 Fantasy managers, while Michu has exited over 32,000 teams. Although a trip to Stoke looks tricky this weekend, the Swans them host Reading and Wigan at the Liberty – surely enough reason to hold right now.

Fernando Torres’ failure to notch against Stoke has seen 44,000 transfer out the Spaniard, while Mladen Petric continues to plummet in our estimations. The latter has dropped 0.3 in price over the last two Gameweeks now that he has seemingly lost his place in Martin Jol’s starting XI. Carlos Tevez’s first bench appearance of the season has caused panic – the most popular player in FPL with over 50% ownership, the Argentine been moved on by over 20,000 managers now that Sergio Aguero is back for City.

    Want to get an Everton defender but can only afford Heitinga or Distin. Looking at their stats though, am I right in saying it's not predictable which will play?

          You'd miss NORWICH but Ivan has tough upcoming fixtures. Trouble is he can make that up with attacking points.

            Yeah Ivan's got too much attacking potentional and reckon Chels can get clean sheets against tough fixtures too!

            Think i'm gonna risk a life without Baines for now :p

          You could drop RvP for any of the form forwards in the 6.5-8.0 range (berbatov, Fletcher etc. etc.) and bring in Baines pretty comfortably for Jenkinson (who may lose his place soon), Figueroa or Davis (who is probably not nailed on either).

    All, looking for some guidance from some wizened FFS members;

    I have 1 FT this week and wondered what advice you could/would suggest;

    Team is

    De Gea (Henderson)

    Baines/Hughes/Ivanovic (Nelson, Clyne)

    Pienaar/Bale/Dyer/Kagawa (Kaca)

    Torres/Tevez/Berba

    All advice/comments appreciated to help me through my mind block!

    So the official FPL mobile app is out!

    Just stumped up the tiny £1.50 for it. I like it. Very fast, very simple and saves almost all the data to your phone - the only data it doesn't save is the player history (before the current GW) which it has to look up dynamically.

    Will provide me with hours of sad entertainment.

    One interesting thing is looking through the PPI scores which I rarely pay any attention to...

    For those that weren't around earlier or have not seen this.

    The Scout reviews Gameweek 5

    Dimitar Berbatov tops the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for Gameweek 5 after another sparkling display in Fulham’s win at Wigan Athletic. Demba Ba sits in second thanks to his match-winner against Norwich City and Rickie Lambert takes third spot after bagging a brace in Southampton’s win over Aston Villa.

    Dimitar Berbatov earned the maximum bonus points (BP) at the DW Stadium with a strong all-round display on Saturday afternoon. Going forward, the Bulgarian produced 4 shots on target and an assist, while 3 clearances, 8 interceptions and a successful tackle are indicative of his current work ethic – he has now returned the maximum BP in both his starts for the Cottagers

    Obviously inviting to be proved wrong here, but this GW could be very interesting in its own right. Looks low scoring on paper and captaincy may decide if you have a good or bad week. Which is of course virtually the same as asking whether RVP is worth having.

      I have faith in RVP this week, and over the course of the season not having him could be very dangerous. United lost the title on goal difference last year and Fergie is going to want some 6/7-0s this year to make up for it. Tough fixtures right now but if you've got him, have to keep IMO.

      I reckon people are picking strikers and players according to certain trends on this site. I have seen people saying they want RVP out for Berbatov/Ba etc because RVP is too expensive..I think that's absolute b/s.. He's scored in every game that he's started, including a hat-trick vs Southampton. I reckon it's your own funeral if you take him out

          I can't really see him getting rotated much. He's Fergie's main source of goals at this stage.. neither Welbeck nor Hernandez are looking like scoring when they get their opportunities. It'll be interested to see how RVP's point scoring is affected by Rooney's return and Kagawa dropping deeper..That will be my main concern.

      I guess you've made your mind up on Gervinho and he is a potentially explosive differential, but I would have got Caz for his involvement. Bale only played first half in LB due to injuries to the usual LBs, he moved to LW and changed the game in the second half. I don't think AVB will deploy him LB too often.

    Hey guys;

    A little ways back in my money league and would appreciate some oppinions on the below:

    Begovic (Jussi)
    Baines - S Taylor - Cuellar (Davies, Gorkks)
    Fellaini - Bale - Cazorla - Maloney (Guthrie)
    RVP - Tevez - Graham

    1 FT and 3.1M in bank

    1) Back line in order? If Cuellar not fit, considering Cuellar or Davies to Glen Johnson as Pool next 3 are tasty.
    2)Graham to Berba even tho Berba has Man U home then an away game while Graham has been poor but 3 tasty prospects.
    3) Maloney to Ben arfa. GFives me Castle coverage. Midfield looks weakish and Barfa"s upside to Maloney should improve my weekly score potential.

    Which do you think is priority? Or any other suggestion? Maybe 2 moves for a 4 point hit?

    Would really appreciate some guidance from more experienced heads on here.

    Thanks.

    I have 2FT Hazard and Figueroa to Toure and Clichy given upcoming fixtures, already have Tevez. Is this nuts? I feel that they are going to go on a run of clean sheets thanks.

      Clichy is too much of a rotation risk and Citys defense hasn't being up to much, i personally wouldnt

      If that is what you ythink go for it. They were close at the weekend, and that against Arsenal.

      No but I would downgrade Walker with a view to getting Baines.

      Is Michu part of that rotation risk with Hernandez, Routledge and Dyer?

        Wouldn't say so he plays in the hole the others on the wings.

      Just tactics, now that Hernandez is there is always going to be a rotational risk.

    Opinions please? I'm stuck, hahaha 🙂
    Already got Foster in goal so maybe double West Brom isn't the best choice...
    Liking the Gunners defence as well!

    1)
    Zabaleta –> McAuley
    Guthrie –> Ramirez/Lallana

    2)
    Zabaleta –> Koscielny/Sagna
    Kacaniklic –> Ramirez/Lallana

    3)
    Zabaleta –> McAuley
    Kacaniklic –> Nolan

    4)
    Zabaleta --> Koscielny/Sagna
    Hangeland --> Hughes/Lowton
    Kacaniklic –> Pienaar

    On 2 freebies. Thoughts?

    Bego – Foster

    Gibbs – McAuley – Hughes – Cuellar – Demel

    Cazorla – Pienaar – Hazard – Michu – Sterling

    RVP – Tevez – Fletcher

    0.9 in the bank.

    Alreet lads. I was on earlier, and talking myself into a WC. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but i'm 99% decided. This is what i've come up with.

    Jaas, Begovic
    Baines, Gibbs, Olsson, Wilson, Demel
    Bale, Cazorla, Barfa, Pienaar, Fellaini
    Aguero, Berba, Lambert

    I would stick with two everton mids for a few games before deciding whether to go through with my planned berba/southampton mid rotation, which would give me a chance to compare ramirez and lallana

    Olsson would be Ridgewell, but Mrs China Mag has him, and I think Olsson has just as good points potential

    I will probably stick with tevez for now, but with enough in the bank to switch to aguero when it feels the right time

    Any thoughts? I could do with the help as I have had a decidedly average start (even though i have somehow managed to be joint top of the EPL!!)

      I do still think it's worth making space for RVP. Even out of that lot, captaincy options could be limited away.

        I've no problem with captaining bale, cazorla, aguero or berba, and one of these has a good home fixture for as far forward as i have looked (GW20). i will go for baines or fellaini this week

          Really tempted to cap Baines this week.

          But equally tempted to somehow get Fellaini in and cap him. Southampton are awful in the air.
