Spurs win at Old Trafford for the first time since 1989 as Andre Villas-Boas’ side triumph in the game of the season so far. Gareth Bale is the main protagonist for the Londoners, as United’s defensive frailties are exposed yet again:

Going Up

Gareth Bale
In a Gameweek where many of the popular midfield picks failed to produce the goods, the Welshman continued his return to form with a goal and pair of assists at Old Trafford. With a home clash against Villa up next, Bale can expect to pick up plenty of interest over the next few days.

Jan Vertonghen
Having found his eye for goal in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Carlisle, Vertonghen notched his first league goal of the campaign as Andre Villas-Boas’ side won for the third Gameweek in a row. With (AVL, sot, WIG) amongst his next four fixtures, the potential for point looks good for the Belgian at both ends of the pitch.

Clint Dempsey
Picked ahead of Gylfi Sigurdsson for the role in β€œthe hole”, the US international vindicated his manager’s decision with his first goal of the season. Dempsey – who has a mere 2% ownership in FPL – could be a real differential pick over the next few games, with a starting berth in the Spurs XI now seemingly assured.

Wayne Rooney
Sent on for Ryan Giggs after the break, Rooney was forced to take up a wider position, with Shinji Kagawa keeping the role behind Robin Van Persie. He made an immediate impact, setting up Nani for United’s first, and with a free-kick hitting the woodwork, he’s offering a real alternative to the Dutchman up top as we look to freshen up our Fantasy squads.

Going Down

United Defence
Once again, the Red Devils failed to keep out their opponents at the back. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have conceded in all but one of their six fixtures so far – with trips to Newcastle and Chelsea in the next four, in addition to a home clash against Arsenal, sales of their defenders look likely to pick up.

Robin Van Persie
Normally, an assist isn’t too bad for a day’s work. The Dutchman has still managed to produce attacking returns in all of his starts this term but with the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Luis Suarez and Demba Ba all racking up the goals earlier today, and with Rooney now back for United, many may be tempted to look for alternatives to the 13.5 priced Dutchman.

Yeah..I would, Stoke are no mugs (well they are, but you know what I mean) and you have RVP and Bale (with AVL, sot WIG in his next 4) looks a far better FPL option imo. Don't see a need for a hit there.

I was looking at Manu(a) vs South(h) of course. It could have been ok had Fellatio not hit the bar and if Eve kept a CS.

      Just a minor hickup.

Form beats fixtures it seems.(but then again two weeks ago Santi had better form then Bale and I kept Bale and Santi had South(h))

Haven't had the most flash start to the season but have been solid and made some great decisions and been a bit unlucky:

    - On WC gw4, did not get sucked into Hazard and dropped Tevez who everyone is looking to ship now.
-Brought gerrard in before MUN, scores in that fixture and then yesterday against norwich

    -RVP in gw2

have been unlucky when i capained jelly home to new only for him to get injured 1st half and brought ade on wc only for avb to leave him on the bench aand then get injured.

Had a few decent gameweeks and ranking going up πŸ˜€ look out for me to storn up the rankings over the next month πŸ˜‰

Not Podolski, although he does give a good shift Wenger does tend to haul him off before the 90min is up. For a full 90 min Suarez is always a better bet. Also he is on everyone's minds right now too.

What does this look like for a WC team?

Suarez is going to be a one-hit wonder methinks. I'd rather Jelavic/Lambert. Having said that, he's got the form + fixtures to back him for the next few.

Either way, a lot of this is going to change after the midweek games BK. So just get the risers and you'll do well to spare your grey cells for later part of the week.

I got Suarez last week, ENR. I don't like him but you can't argue with form and fixtures. He'll be for the chop after this decent run, probably for Berbatov again. Hopefully Berbs will be back to 6.9 again. Then I would have enough money to get Santi Claus. We'll see. I haven't even pushed the button yet....

I wouldn't touch Rangel with a barge pole, form is almost a direct correlation to CS chances, and Swansea are dire. Go for Ridgewell instead.

Rest of the team is not how I'd have it, but there are good reasons for all the players you've picked.

      Best of luck.

I'm only tinkering here as an excuse to avoid the work I have to do. Rangel would go if I do push the button and I hadn't realised that Mata had fallen to 8.8. That seems like good value despite the poor fixtures for Chelsea.
I have to go shopping now before the typhoon hits. Thanks for the replies and later guys.

Just think people should be patient with Hazard.

He's likely to start most games and on penos while Lamps is on the bench. Had he converted a few chances in the last few, I bet this would have been a different story.

There are literally loads but, for me, Nolan is perhaps the pick for his pure directness and finishing ability (I don't have him, I wish I did). Duff is also well worth a look.

However, there are a some great value attacking defenders in the 5.5 region (Rafael, Huth and Risse probably being the picks). Offsetting one of these against a slightly cheaper mid (e.g. Puncheon, Maloney, Sterling) might produce better results.

    This season has been the most (for want of a better word) fickle for knee-jerking in a while. By my reckoning, the following players have all been extremes of 'a rubbish option' or 'the best option' at least once, maybe two times, in the space of 6 weeks;

Tevez, Torres, Hazard, Mata, Bale, HBA, Michu, Toure, Lambert, Pienaar, N'Zogbia, Kagawa, Lampard, Graham and probably a few others I'm forgetting (I have been as bad as anyone for this).

Interestingly, some of most consistent value players; Crouch, Defoe, Ba, Fletcher, Duff, Nolan, Walters and any West Ham defender have, while not being ignored, managed to steer almost completely clear of controversy.

While recent result have been pretty lame, I look at my team and still feel reasonably confident so I'm planning to adopt a more patient approach going forwards. I'm going to do my best to ignore the big scorers and focus on the underlying stats which, if positive, I'm going to adhere to even if they didn't result in points this week.

Finally, and I offer this as my most heartfelt FPL 'epiphany'; the single most effective asset in this game is not the Wildcard but the 2FT. The discipline to consistently collect these despite all the urges to make changes will be the difference in the long run.
