Spurs win at Old Trafford for the first time since 1989 as Andre Villas-Boas’ side triumph in the game of the season so far. Gareth Bale is the main protagonist for the Londoners, as United’s defensive frailties are exposed yet again:

Going Up

Gareth Bale
In a Gameweek where many of the popular midfield picks failed to produce the goods, the Welshman continued his return to form with a goal and pair of assists at Old Trafford. With a home clash against Villa up next, Bale can expect to pick up plenty of interest over the next few days.

Jan Vertonghen
Having found his eye for goal in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Carlisle, Vertonghen notched his first league goal of the campaign as Andre Villas-Boas’ side won for the third Gameweek in a row. With (AVL, sot, WIG) amongst his next four fixtures, the potential for point looks good for the Belgian at both ends of the pitch.

Clint Dempsey
Picked ahead of Gylfi Sigurdsson for the role in “the hole”, the US international vindicated his manager’s decision with his first goal of the season. Dempsey – who has a mere 2% ownership in FPL – could be a real differential pick over the next few games, with a starting berth in the Spurs XI now seemingly assured.

Wayne Rooney
Sent on for Ryan Giggs after the break, Rooney was forced to take up a wider position, with Shinji Kagawa keeping the role behind Robin Van Persie. He made an immediate impact, setting up Nani for United’s first, and with a free-kick hitting the woodwork, he’s offering a real alternative to the Dutchman up top as we look to freshen up our Fantasy squads.

Going Down

United Defence
Once again, the Red Devils failed to keep out their opponents at the back. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have conceded in all but one of their six fixtures so far – with trips to Newcastle and Chelsea in the next four, in addition to a home clash against Arsenal, sales of their defenders look likely to pick up.

Robin Van Persie
Normally, an assist isn’t too bad for a day’s work. The Dutchman has still managed to produce attacking returns in all of his starts this term but with the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Luis Suarez and Demba Ba all racking up the goals earlier today, and with Rooney now back for United, many may be tempted to look for alternatives to the 13.5 priced Dutchman.

There are a select few players who you'd feel confident playing both home and away. Off the top of my head I can think of Tevez, RVP, Fletcher, Ba and maybe even Lambert up front.

It gets a lot tougher to think of players once you get into midfield which suggests that effective rotation here is more important.

Are there any others, particularly mid-priced midfielders, that you would consider to fit into the H&A category?

It takes big balls to leave out RVP with no united cover but I can see the temptation with the hard run of fixtures they have in coming weeks. Im considering RVP -> suarez and then Guthrie -> bale and captain the welshman this week.

anyone shifting hba ahead of poor fixtures? I am thinking of bringing in ramirez (southampton) for his great run. Even in yesterday's tough game, as well as his easy goal, he had a clear self crafted chance, and nearly an assist.

Against villa he was absolutely superb (I have watched every southampton game because I'm a fan and get all the games here in Hong Kong)

you know alex ferguson - after a defensive performance like last night what do you think he will do next week?

        I think

        MU
        sun
        WBA
        liv

is a tricky run attacking-wise, with the exception of WBA. I'd think of getting him back in after those 4 for someone else, depending on my situation of course

I'm definitely interested in Ramirez, the Scout team rate him very highly too. That said, I think players can often look pretty epic when they first join a team and are wanting to make an impression. I'm tempted to wait and see if he becomes a Sigurdsson or a Michu (slightly unfair but I can't think of another example right now).

I know what you mean, but I have watched southampton and he is the best player by miles. Doesn't always convert to fantasy points, i know. I was a bit worried he could be a modric type - but so far he seems a lot more direct.

Between him and lallana for me but he seems more involved in the centre

true - I'd agree with neutral - but really his good run is GWs 11-15

basically I just want ramirez, whose fixtures are way better than neutral... And I don't want to drop my other mids. Of course being a southampton fan biases me a fair bit!

        ramirez:
FUL, wham, TOT, wba, SWANS, qpr, NEWC, NOR, liv, READING, SUN

gotta say that is sweet . 7/11 home game but admittedly a blank week in there somewhere

very good! and quite similar to my team which i wced in for this week

      only differences are
saylor and cueller vs hughes and demel
      michu vs walters
      lambert vs suarez

i like my defenders a bit better but your attackers a bit better. just make sure you have a rotation plan for walters as you'll probably only want to play him for home games

yeah, i agree but really think suarez over lambert is a biggie although ur defence would be nice. A lot are saying that rafael is such a big risk. got any alternatives?

I think Vertonghen will score some more goals in next few weeks if you can afford him. He looks very good in left back position. I will see he'll get any bps this week or not too.

Almost equal to my team 🙂

      Only diferences are:
      Vorm andCerny in goal for me;
Y Toure, Hazard, Michu and Fellaini instead of Walters, Pienaar, HBA and Bale in midfield.

So i think you're team is good.

PS - In Suarez we trust (i, from day 1 and made him capt yesterday) 🙂

this. Rooney turned the game at half time.

All of united's chances, including a sitter and offside goal for RVP plus penalty shouts, came with Rooney ON the pitch.

I think I may wildcard. There are a few players I fancy bringing in.24 points with Foster to go is very poor. Or maybe I am just knee jerking. Team for next week would be at present:

    FosteR
    Ivanovic - Baines - Kompany
    Maloney - Kagawa - Cazorla - Pienaar - Michu
    Tevez - Lambert

Hmm. Maybe one more week and do Maloney to Bale for the moment.
