Mario Balotelli grabs a last-ditch spot-kick to earn City a point against Dortmund. Gervinho and Lukas Podolski are amongst the goals as Arsenal maintain their 100% record at the expense of Olympiakos. Elsewhere, Dimitar Berbatov hopes to be fit for Fulham this weekend, Emmanuel Adebayor could return for Spurs, Danny Simpson and Yohan Cabaye are back for Newcastle and West Brom remain hopeful on Liam Ridgewell and Gareth McAuley for this week’s clash against QPR:

Man City 1 Dortmund 1
Carlos Tevez was the only City forward not to feature last night ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s home clash with Sunderland. Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko both lasted the full 90 minutes against the German champions, while Mario Balotelli climbed off the bench to slot home a late penalty and earn a point for Roberto Mancini’s side. At the back, Joleon Lescott again missed out as Vincent Kompany was partnered by Matija Nastasic in the heart of defence, with Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy the full-backs. Yaya Toure played in a deeper role alongside Javi Garcia, though the latter lasted just more than 30 minutes before limping off with a thigh problem. David Silva played the full 90 minutes and Samir Nasri was withdrawn before the hour mark to be replaced by Aleksandar Kolarov.

Arsenal 3 Olympiakos 1
Mikel Arteta recovered from an ankle knock to take his place in the starting line-up, with Francis Coquelin given the nod alongside the Spaniard in light of Abou Diaby’s absence. Laurent Koscielny was again preferred to Per Mertesacker as Thomas Vermaelen’s central defensive partner, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started on the right and Gervinho again led the line. The Ivorian had a hand in the Gunners’ first two goals – he opened the scoring thanks to an Arteta assist before teeing up Lukas Podolski for the second. Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud were introduced as subs late on in the second-half, with the Frenchman setting up Ramsey to fire home the third.

In Other News
Dimitar Berbatov has given Fantasy managers reason for optimism ahead of Fulham’s trip to Southampton this weekend. The Bulgarian took to Facebook yesterday to reveal:

“I need to speed up the healing process of my injury, by increasing the amount of oxygen in the body’s tissues…So here i am, breathing pure oxygen.. let see if it’s going to help me…Hope to be ready for next game.”

Bearing in mind there is a two-week international break to follow, Berbatov would be expected to return in time for the Gameweek 8 home match with Villa anyway – clearly, the Cottagers must feel he has a chance for this Saturday if they’ve given the okay for his treatment. While it’s far from certain he’ll make it, it’s somewhat reassuring for Berbatov’s owners, with the vast majority likely to hold until Martin Jol’s Friday press conference for confirmation.

Alan Pardew is set to welcome back Danny Simpson and Yohan Cabaye to the Newcastle fold ahead of this evening’s Europa League clash with Bordeaux. Simpson has missed the last three league matches with a hamstring injury but has been named in the squad to face the French outfit, as has Cabaye – the midfielder has recovered from the mouth infection that forced him out of last weekend’s trip to Reading. While their inclusion is welcome news ahead of Sunday’s home clash with United, Pardew is still sweating on his first-choice central defensive pairing of Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini. The Argentine has missed the last three with a hamstring injury while Taylor was subbed off before the hour mark at the Madejski with a leg problem – James Perch and Mike Williamson may be set to square up to Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie if the pair don’t make it. With Tim Krul also omitted from this evening’s squad with an ongoing arm problem, many Fantasy managers will be a little more confident of handing Van Persie the captain’s armband once again this weekend.

West Brom assistant boss Kevin Keen revealed he is optimistic of a return to fitness for the club’s walking wounded this weekend. The Baggies are sweating on the fitness of defenders Liam Ridgewell, Gareth McAuley, Billy Jones and Steven Reid ahead of the visit of QPR, while Chris Brunt is also a doubt with a hamstring problem:

“We’re hoping that everyone might be available for Saturday but if not we’ve got the cushion of a couple of weeks for the international break…we’re hopeful we will have as many fit as possible, which would give the gaffer a bit of a problem team selection-wise.”

Having returned clean sheets and wins in each of their first three home games, Steve Clarke’s side have afforded us a strong source of mid-price options at the back this term. Ridgewell and McAuley, in particular, have picked up plenty of suitors, with their tendency to chip in with attacking points also furthering their appeal – while the former missed out at Villa last weekend with a calf problem, McAuley remained on the pitch after picking up a knock after Clarke had used all three substitutions in the derby draw. With three home games in the next four, the West Brom backline looks primed for investment, with Ben Foster and Jonas Olsson the obvious alternatives should the aforementioned pair fail to make it.

Emmanuel Adebayor has returned to training for Tottenham ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Aston Villa. The Togo international has yet to start for Spurs this season after a permanent transfer from City and while he will sit out this evening’s Europa League game with Panathinaikos, reports suggest he may be in line to play some part against Paul Lambert’s strugglers as the Londoners go looking for their fourth straight league win. With Jermain Defoe bagging four goals in the opening six Gameweeks, though, Adebayor may face a battle to initially claim a starting role but yesterday’s news suggests he could be finally on the road to step up and afford us another strong up-front alternative to consider this season.

Facing a bit of a dilemma, regrettably pulled my wildcard last week, which has been a complete failure, frankly its terrible. Im falling out of contention in my mini leagues and need some advice.

The team i will be playing as it stand is..

    Schwarzer (Mignolet)

    Baines/Rangel/Hughes/Rafael (S Taylor)

    Fellaini/Santi Carzola/Yaya (HBA/ Guthrie)

    Fletcher/Lukaku/Aguero

Im worried about my lack of Chelsea support..

Tempted to switch HBA.. for Mata ? but short of that im completely lost at what to do ?

Anybody else thinking Suarez may do allot better this year because the team is designed to play around him in a style he is a fit for? When he 1st came to Liverpool he was pretty good and looked a real fpl prospect with goals and assists in him. Then next season we adapted our game to suit Carroll, not Suarez by buying players like Downing and adam. Carroll and Suarez had F all of a partnership.

This year, Suarez is playing in a team designed to play around him imo, he seems more central and has had 36 shots, 11 on target and 16 chances created. Those numbers are very sustainable, not to mention Liverpool appear to be improving, which can only be good for Suarez.

Love or loathe him, he is bringing near guaranteed minutes and great underlying stats that imo, suggest he has the upside to become a big hitter.

Yup, I went and said it. I think he will score as well (FPL wise) as Rooney/Tevez imo, maybe more. He has a well rounded game and even with only 3 shots on target last week, you'd expect a goal at that rate.

Plus he has a penalty shout every 2nd game or so 🙂

seriously though, i do expect him to do more. as you say, LIV have no other viable attacking options so they have to utilise Suarez.

BUT, Suarez remains Suarez. he did have chance last season too. he just failed to convert. that has not changed.

        ^^

I don't deny Suarez is a statistical nightmare to analyse, you can point to poor finishing, equally one could say he creates so many half chances. This year though, the important numbers imo are 5 goals, 1 assist in 6 games with very sustainable numbers. Basically shooting more the any forward and creating more chances.

You can point to the hat trick at Nor for 3 of those goals...but they all count ala RVP vs SOU.

a definite FPL prospect but LIV are not setting the EPL alight and the Suarez Stigma always plays a role too.

True, other side of the coin though is id rather a forward who is shooting allot, missing and getting the odd one in, rather then a guy taking every chance that comes his way.

Fletchers numbers just aren't sustainable over a long period, ala Cisse last year.

People keep saying he was off-form and all that nonsense while forgetting he came
back to us right after the Copa America and within a week w/o getting any rest was
again playing nearly 90 minutes every match.

It may not look like that from outside but he was mentally exhausted.

This season,Uruguay getting knocked out is the best thing that has happened to him
in the last 2-3 seasons getting some good decent rest and knowing Rodgers style of play.

You also said Nani would be a top scoring midfielder, Balotelli would be Man City's main striker, etc, etc.

You have a scattergun approach to predictions and a habit of only remembering those which come true (not suggesting the Suarez one has come true but you get the point).

The trouble is the fact that Nani and Balotelli don't get as much gametime as others is precisely why they won't be the top scorers this season.

There are too many different/better options at their clubs for them to nail down places and be good fpl options.

I wish you were right and Luis and the Reds were banging in the goals but you wouldn't be so optimistic had he not scored a hat-trick against a poor Norwich defence. He'll be lucky if he scores one against Stoke. Maybe Liverpool are built around him but they're not Barca built around Messi. Sahin is the only top quality midfielder, hoping he gets plenty of goals and a few assists for Suarez too. It's sacrilege as a Pool supporter but I reckon Gerrard is finished, he doesn't have the legs for PL any more. A good Euros but couldn't even last 70 mins v Italy. Currently Lambert, Fletcher, Jelavic,Defoe and even Crouch are better FF strikers than Suarez but hopefully he'll make me eat my words.

Damn it, why did Tevez drop two nights ago when he was only about 66% to drop on Total FPL?

Anyone bought and played Resident Evil 6 yet?

I was thinking of getting it, although with the mixed reviews and the fact that on the demo it doesn't seem like your AI partner can be killed, I am not so convinced.

The AI of RE5 sucked, and the other character died a lot, but I don't see how having your partner now invincible makes this an improvement of the AI like some reviewers mention. Surely you can just hang back and let your team mate take out the enemies, and you don't even have to protect them and you can let their infinite ammo and health to beat most parts of the game...

Obviously two player, I still expect this game to be fairly decent. 😀

Well I personally predicted Balo for UCL a while ago as he is best used there, since refs give him a break and the other players dont wind him up so much.
So im not surprised. And as he played well against Fulham, I cant see him being 4th choice.

I like it a lot. I would downgrade Vert to Gallas and upgrade Gazza, he is not a go-er after they signed Boruc.

Lovely midfield and strikers, though Gervinho seems too short term but plenty of downgrades available if needed later.

Is Gallas a long-term option? I like this team too.. but I'd downgrade Vert to a cheapie and do Jelavic > RVP

it doesn't affect my selling price thankfully, he needs to drop again for that to happen. If he plays this week his value will start to climb.

    Shawcross in the England squad..

The FA will release a statement this afternoon saying that San Marino called them to say they don't want to play us anymore.

feels good! [please dont get injured tonight bale...]

    Foster [begovich]

    vertonghen baines mcually [jenkinson, demel]

Bale (C) cazorla hazard (VC) michu [morrison]

    suarez Ba lambert

benching morison at home against QPR feels wierd - but who else can i bench?

Fraser Forster in the England squad - good for him. Should always have been ahead of Butland.

Sorry GW, just seen your question above. No not an Ian concern, we're in the same league so he can look anytime.
I got Trojaned last weekend. You can still check my team out on our leagues.

I dreamt that Ba scored a hat trick this weekend, and I don't even have him. Make of that what you will.
