The Gunners show their spirit to come from behind and claim the points at Upton Park, as Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott arrive and Santi Cazorla confirms his class…

On the Up

Olivier Giroud
A first Premier League goal, was capped by the assist for Theo Walcott’s winner. The Frenchman has pedigree in his native country but has yet to convince on these shores. He’ll surely take great confidence from this evening’s performance, however, and Giroud could yet present another enticing option up front.

Santi Cazorla
We kept faith with Cazorla in the Watchlist rankings, settling him in third above his in-form team-mate Gervinho: tonight’s performance demonstrated just why. The Spaniard was, once again, superb and this time delivered on his hugely impressive numbers with a fabulous strike to seal the Arsenal victory.

Theo Walcott
A peripheral figure so far in Arsenal’s season, Walcott’s goal and his assist for Cazola’s effort was a reminder of his potential. Contract negotiations are still ongoing – if Walcott can finally settle, he could yet play a role in our Fantasy seasons. Right now, he’s an option that increases the likelihood of rotation in Wenger’s lineup.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Arsene Wenger brought Per Mertesacker back into his back four, dropping Laurent Koscielny to the bench – a decision likely to have been governed by the threat of Andy Carroll. The Gunners backline have now conceded in the last four and, more significantly, with Bacary Sagna and Wojciech Szczesney set for returns after the international break, there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of personnel. Thomas Vermaelen appears to be the only assured starter, at least until we know more on Kieran Gibbs’ knock that saw him replaced just before the hour-mark tonight.

Gervinho
Giroud’s returns and Walcott’s showing from the bench signals trouble for owners of the Ivorian. Already he was pushed out wide on the right from the off in this evening’s game, only to be replaced by Walcott after 60 minutes after an ineffectual showing. Gervinho’s starting role is now immediately under increased threat, both as a central attacker and on the flank.

Ricardo Vaz Te
The Hammers striker had been enjoying a buoyant start to the season but this looks to have been derailed this evening by a suspected dislocation of the shoulder. Guy Demel also sustained a knock and his prognosis is likely to be a greater concern for Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    I have two free transfers, I could do;

    Guthrie to Sterling. Straight swap.

    or

Hazard to Mata. Guthrie to Morrison (or another 6m midfielder).

    What would you do?

sterling should good bargain with 4.0+ value for 5th mid slot , nope better keep hazard unless you need to free up fund to invest somewhere i,e fwd/def (rvp, baines etc)

morrison or nolan should be ok looking from his current form and why NOT but of course if you have FT on hand then, so all the best !!!

      cheers.

Nolan is the player I really want but he's just out of reach price-wise. Mata seems better value than Hazard but Hazard looks the more dangerous.

yeah Aguero is hard to ignore

Only issue is where to fit them in when I have RvP, Berba, and Jelavic up top.

I wish we could swap a mid spot for a striker spot, then Hazard to Aguero would be a no-brainer for me.

Do we feel that Suarez will let us down ultimately in the long run once I tires tighten up so in game week , it's just that we can't bank on Aguero starting and his game time can be 60/70 min mark ,
So it looks like people are saying :
Rotated/60,70 min Aguero is better than a nailed on 90 min Suarez ,
      Thanks lads for replies.

After the last couple of games before West Ham I think we should have realised that at the moment we should only ever be playing one of Verm and Kos alongside Mertesacker. He'd be the first name on the teamsheet for me right now, he's playing brilliantly.

The same with Jenko, he's been immense and barely put a foot wrong. With Sagna still being a little while from match fit, Jenkos form and Sagnas comments in the media over the summer, I seriously don't see him going straight back into the starting lineup without a fight.

at the start of the season I was no way going to have RvP or rooney because they would have to share the same cake. now rooney is back im thinking of shifting RvP. lets see what he does today. He will now be a slight rotation risk. I think that suarez ba and aguero are nailed.

    my team:
    Berg - Foster
    Clyne - Rangel - bains - Demel - Cuellar
    Pienaar - Michu - Hazard - Santi - Guthrie
RvP - vaz te - Suarez

No question that Fletcher = goals, but given that there are so many on form forwards, I've becoe a little greedy and goals arent enough. I'm looking for a forward that provides assists too. Cant see Fletcher getting many if any of those at all. Could be wrong of course

Demel out for 4 weeks and Clyne is a waste of an FPL space. I think you only really need Baines or Ivan, not both. If you downgrade one of them I'd upgrade Rooney to RVP as I think he's the only Utd attacker worth getting.

Also, Sunderland don't look like they create a lot of chances so maybe a different 3rd striker than Fletcher.

Could have been tactical but there is no way that fellaini will be playing 'in the hole' with those two up front. Hell be playing deeper regardless. Gibson fed Pienaar like he was a hungry dog toward the end of last season. Could pay dividends yet again. Fellaini did SFA last season and has only done this well due to Jelly being injured. Sure he was an excellent option if he stayed there, but it was disappointing to see him get dropped back and then even further in the second half.

actually fellaini plays deeper when away
but change was mostly casued by mirallas who is playing as a right winger but isnt exactly one
he is playing more to the middle
it is a bit like what tottenham used to do when playing with vdv but without a right winger withwith kyle walker bombarding down the right
so from now on, think of fellaini as a new modric, but with heading ability and an afro

NOt so much the injuries, just a team of non productive players.

        Current team:

        Schwarzer, Green
        Cole, Rafael, Cuellar, Zabaletta, Demel
Yaya, Guthrie, Fellaini, Hazard, Ban Arfa
        RVP, Zamora, Lambert

Pretty much the whole defence needs changing, Yaya, Guthrie Fellaini and Hazard could all go too and Zamora.

Saved up 2 free Transfers for Int break but another red arrow last night and slipping to 555k+ is making my patience wear thin. Fellaini will no doubt get a booking next game and miss the Merseyside derby.

My FPL team is mirroring the ineptitude of the real life QPR team.

Am looking at a mid to swap in for Michu after GW8. Was gonna get Morrison but I took a look at your fixtures, they look pretty good, and you have 2 mids at 5.5 who are both interesting me. Taarabt and Granero

Taarabt, we know what we are getting, explosivity and maybe pens. but appears not nailed on.

Granero looks nailed on, on most set-pieces and just look awesome. What do you think?

Thats what I was hoping to do. Your team is in abetter shape than mine but I see what you man about the defence. Maybe just take a hit to sort that out?

Keeper situation not too much of an issue for me as I can play Shwarzer every week and Cole and Zab are not necessarily emergency moves out but I am just getting increasingly frustrated at falling further behind every week.

Was going to do Hazard to Santi anyway and try and get Suarez in for Zamora by dg one of those exp defs.

so a disapointing GW thus far is making me think to do the following before this gw is over in case of any price hikes.

    Felani > Pienar
    Yaya > Matta

got 2 transfers and by doing this left with .1 in the bank.

risky or what? (with the international break n all that)

A lot of people are concerned about Man City rotation (as am I), however, I wonder if we're looking at it the wrong way.

Man City have created 133 chances so far this season, that's almost double the likes of Newcastle and Southampton.

So even if Tevez (say) only played 75% as many minutes as, say, Lambert or Ba, he would still theoretically have roughly 50% more chances to score (um, I think).

This is a gross over-simplification of course and you'd have to look at the percentage goal-involvement of a player for their team (I still think Tevez would rate highly) and the cost difference, but it does serve to undermine some of the rotation-fear (albeit not Captain fear).

On a side-note, when look at Team Chances / Cost x Goal Involvement (or whatever the correct equation would be) my guesstimation is that the best value forward in the game is a certain Mr Berbatov.... shame he's injured eh.

That's not how it works though. You have to second guess Mancini and continually swap your man city players out for hits depending on which ones you think will play.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's basically the view I'm questioning. Focusing on starts is perhaps less important than what they do with the minutes they have.

You, sir, make a valid point. Any City defender, playing the minutes that he might play, will always have a higher scoring potential than most simply because of the quality of team that is City. True but only on paper.

As for Berba...I'm glad I decided to bench him instead of getting rid of him 😀

Most Beautiful players in the Premier League right now:

    Cazorla
    Baines
    Pienaar
    Berbamuff
    Mata
    Ba
Michu (his celebration today made me like him)
Di Santo (Has the best celebration)
    Silva

Personal shout out goes to Fletcher

    Any ones I missed?

I've actually found that the players I love the most are the ones I prefer having in FPL...is this a good or bad thing? Or maybe just a coincidence?
