A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Martin. Yesterday hasn't really changed my thinking on RVP/Kolarov. RVP got a goal and an assist. So only 3 pts (+ 2pts bonus) more than my Suarez. I would want a bit more for my extra 4m!!! (i'm getting rid of Ba this week by the way)

I think that you have missed the point. Kolarov never entered the thinking when it came to getting rid of RVP. The idea was to have a balanced squad. As a result, I had some cash left over, which allowed me to get Kolarov as a "joker"

The 6 min cameo actually worked out well for me. His 1pt was more than the 0pts I would have got for Wilson coming on!!

But yes, the one thing putting me off trying the kolarov gamble, was the fear of the 6 min cameo. But last season, he only had 3 in total. Which I could live with. He already has two this year. If this keeps up, then I won't be keeping him for very long.

I don't get the term "balanced" squad. You want the squad that will get you the most points. I'd rather have an "unbalanced" squad that will earn me more points.

The strategy I am trying out involves me playing baines, bale and santi every game, and rotating the rest of the players based on fixtures, rather than having a set team that I play every week regardless of fixtures, with 3 bench warmers.

Its an interesting strategy. I think you may miss out on quite a few points especially up front without having the more consistent players that will get you points week in week out and at the same time your rotated players are not guaranteed to put points on the board.

Having a " balanced squad " would mean you would get steady points week in week out. Where as having big guns means you could score big one week and could have a rather depressing week . No point running in circles about it, everybody will end up 20-30 points ahead or behind each other.

      RVP (c) = 20-22
      Suarez (c) = 10
Well with 4M more given his consistency and reliability over the course of the season. Balance - meh.

When Gorks plays, he will get on average 1-2pts over the whole season

When Kolarov plays he should get an average 6+ pts over the whole season

I'm gambling that he starts 10-15 games a season, and doesn't make too many 6 minute cameos. If the gamble doesn't pay off, i don't lose out that much as there was nowhere else I really wanted to use the extra money of him over demel.

I had kolarov for the same reasons but you also have to compare his returns to someone else in the same price range. Would rafael get you more points for example over the season? I went for rafael instead.

Just get rid of Rangel for now, Taylor, Boyce or Wilson.

Actually, you need to get rid of Aguero & take out Fellaini.

      Aguero for Berba or Jelavic.

      Then upgrade Fellaini to Cazorla.

Is the time rght to cash in on Ivanovic?

I've had him since week 1.
    I'd transfer in Wilson.
The funds would be used to upgrade Lambert.

Any of you chaps mind giving thoughts on my wildcard team?: http://i.imgur.com/F9li1.png

I've scored a big score so far this week (72 pre boni and Baines) but I still have a lot of deadwood and underperformers (Chico, Pog, Suarez, Michu & McCauley hitting tough fixtures, Federici injured), so I'm thinking of having a clear out.

My main thoughts behind this are:
    - Clean sheets are very hard to come by so looking to make savings at the back and play 3 each week
    - Stoke and West Ham defence rotate well
    - Everton have some good fixtures coming up
    - Man City attacking coverage is hard to achieve and dangerous regarding rotation, so I've gone without it
    - Hazard could be an option to swap out to Mata, which would give me another £1m to invest at the back, but that doesn't really achieve that much; maybe Huth and Demel (if fit) instead of McCartney (who's a clear risk but not sure who else to go for under 4.1 in the original team) and Wilson.

I would WC with your team but certainly not get the team you've posted -

      1) Don't get 3 Everton in a WC IMO.
2)Go for Mata instead of Hazard
3)Not Noble - may be Walters/Morrison/Michu (don't be in a hurry to get rid of Michu he's playing OoP as a striker)
      4)Baird to Hughes
      5)Wisdom to Cueller

I usually do not like commenting negatively on teams, but your defence is too risky.

I like the idea of a cheap defence with the Baines support, but all your defenders are doubtful to a certain extent.

Id rather go for a defence of Baines, Demel, ridgewell, wilson and another cheap one. Baird, Wisdom and McCartney are all risks

to the person who replied to me above about getting rid of Aguero...

its not really bad advice now is it, yeah sure, hes class(when he plays), right now I dont want that uncertainty & id rather have RVP who will play more. Aguero has better fixtures, granted. BUT RVP can score against anyone!

    Dzeko, Aguero, Tevez, Ballotelli

Who will play V SWA next week? Wouldnt be surprised if it was Dzeko & Tevez.

Yup, Aguero owner here, but Ajax away is a big game for them, hence I see Kun and Dzeko starting.

And hence the other 2 starting vs swansea.

But then, if this isnt right, and Kun starts against Swansea, it is a double figure point haul were looking at! So id def keep till the CL game

yeah sure its the rotation risk but aguero is the main guy upfront when healthy and even if he starts on the bench and only plays the last 25 minutes i would back him to score, hes such an explosive player and me personally thinks he will play for the most part upcoming weeks and with the fixtures coming up i think he will do really well. Could of course be wrong

It is a tough conundrum with Aguero. If I knew he was going to start this week I would definitely give him the armband, but unfortunately.. that's not the case and for an 11 mil player you expect him to be starting.

I'm hanging on to Baines and Ivan. The other three are rotation cheapies (Gorkss, Nelsen & Hughes). So in order to fit RVP/Rooney/Kun in my team instead of Suarez (Ba & Berba are the two others in my front line), I need to downgrade one of my expensive mids. But currently I have Mata, Santi, Bale, Pienaar and Puncheon and I don't want to sell any of these. Ideas?

FPL. There's a few mini-league players with him and he's just clocking up points. In real life, he's messing with the balance of that team for me. We looked like the away team yesterday.

And when Ade did come on he looked like he didn't want to know.
