A busy day packed full of articles is brought to a close by our Friday evening regular. As always, we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s 11.30 deadline, with only one of our featured three owned by more than 1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers…

Arouna Kone

Wigan’s summer signing from Levante arrived at the DW with plenty expectation heaped on his shoulders. Kone produced 15 goals and four assists in a sensational La Liga campaign last term, helping his side upset the odds and earn a sixth place finish in the Spanish top flight. So far, the Ivorian has been key to the Latics’ attacking forays, playing a part in five of their eight strikes, with three goals and a couple of assists already accrued.

In the FPL game, the 6.5 priced Kone has resultantly racked up 35 points, earning almost five points per start, but, despite returning a point more than the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Kone has an ownership of just 0.8%. In the Sky Sports game, he also has impressed – priced at 7.7, he is joint-fifth for forwards, with 41 points already returned. Further analysis of the stats shows Kone has been involved in four of Wigan’s five home goals this term – with visitors West Ham failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four matches, the Ivorian could be a decent punt this weekend for those Fantasy managers looking for something a little different for their third striker slot.

Samir Nasri

With David Silva ruled out due to a hamstring problem and Yaya Toure likely to play deeper due to injuries and suspensions to others, we’re rolling the dice on the Frenchman ahead of City’s home clash against Swansea. The former Arsenal man has only started two home league matches this term, with wildly contrasting fortunes; the season opener with Southampton harvested a goal, assist and maximum bonus points for a 12 point FPL haul, while QPR’s visit to the Etihad in Gameweek 3 resulted in nothing more than a two point return.

Nasri brings decent form into the Swans’ showdown tomorrow evening, though; having recently returned from a hamstring injury, he grabbed his side’s only goal in Wednesday’s disappointing defeat at Ajax. Fantasy managers may have doubts over Roberto Mancini’s starters up front for this one but Nasri looks nailed-on to begin the game; priced at 8.2 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he has just 4.8% ownership and could flourish against a side that has shipped an average of two goals per game over the last six fixtures, as the champions go in search of their fourth straight victory.

Brett Holman

Finally, we end on a real punt; the Australian international is the definition of a differential, with a mere 0.1% FPL ownership thus far. Holman – who arrived in England on the back of a campaign that harvested four goals and 10 assists for AZ Alkmaar in 2011/12 – has yet to produce any attacking returns this term but, both in terms of creativity and threat, has been one of Aston Villa’s most impressive performers so far ; a fact acknowledged by Paul Lambert only a fortnight ago, with the former Norwich boss saying:

“Brett’s been unlucky not to score, but he’s playing really, really well at this time. He’s not shy to have a shot on goal and he’s a creative player. I always think if creative players can make things happen and score a goal or maybe slide the odd ball through, then you’ve got a player on your hands. It’s important we share the goals around. We need that threat but Brett’s all-round game is good at the minute, really good. He’s got energy to burn, and he’s a top lad as well. If he keeps going the way he’s going he’ll have a really good season. He’s got a great desire for the game, a great enthusiasm for the game. Aston Villa are fortunate to have him.”

Priced at 5.6 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Holman plays host to a Norwich City side that have conceded 11 goals in their first four games on the road. If Lambert is to get the better of his former employers, tomorrow would be the perfect time for the summer signing to start producing.

    bego – jussi
    clyne – cuellar – hughes – Saylor – baines
    yaya – santi – mitchu – ben arfa – guthri
    defoe – rvp – long

    3.2 m in bank and 2 free transfers, was thinking of yaya – bale, but don’t want to go without City cover either!

      Had it on him for a day just put Ba on it. It is so tempting to put the band on someone most people are passing on. I have been giving the armband to the most obvious ones and it has been a couple of weeks since any of them has delivered big the week i put it on them. Mata is tempting i even considered Vertonghen. In the end like always i end with the most obvious one Ba.

    Okay guys, think I've got it for this week, but people coming back from injury is bothering me. The team is as follows:

    Schwarzer

    Cuellar Hangeland Wilson

    Hazard Sterling Michu Cazorla(v)

    Suarez Jelavic Tevez(c)

    subs: Jaaskalainen, Fellaini, Demel, A.Cole

    What are your thoughts on Fellaini playing? Not sure if I should stick him in, in case he's a sub and Moyes only gives him 10 minutes or less in a derby game. Also, Was thinking of taking Cuellar out, and putting Demel in, but will Demel play? Is my captain pick the right choice? Should I start Schwarzer or Jaaskalainen? These things plague me at almost 2:30 in the morning!!

      I have no idea about Fellaini I think Demel is confirmed out. I would captain Tevez. I would start Jaask. I don't think Fulham will keep a clean sheet and you already have Hangeland.

        Thanks for the reply! The Fellaini situation is bothering me. I think if he plays, he'd be well up for a derby game, and he is the difference between the two sides.. But knowing my luck, he's going to get 5 minutes before the final whistle!

      too many questions is too much pressure, but i will try.
      1. I think Felli will play from the start in particular with peanut out. In for Sterling
      2. Demel is not supposed to play, but you are welcomed to start him because he will just be subbed out anyway in case you think there is chance. I think there is none, I just left him on the bench.
      3. Tevez can be a good choice but i worry about how much he will play and to some degree if he will even start although it looks like he will.
      4. Fulham keeper stands a slightly better chance at keeping a clean sheet but is a toss up.
      5. If you lived in America on the east coast is only 9:30.

        Thank you for such an in-depth reply. I'm wanting Fellaini to play, but am worried that he will only get a few minutes. I think you're right with keeping Demel on the bench, I will do the same also. Do you know how many minutes Tevez got during the Champions League midweek fixture? I have him as captain, but wonder if he will get 90 minutes, and if City perform well..
        As the other person who replied to my post said, I already have Hangeland, so maybe Jaaskalainen is the right choice, to not put all of my eggs in the same defensive basket, so to speak. I may sleep on it and see what happens. More news might come in tomorrow. Hopefully I will wake in time!

          I got Berba last week for a hit and wished I hadn't. I went against my better judgement and now regret it. He hasn't really proved his worth at Fulham yet TBH and there are better fwd options right now.
          Hope this changes obviously but don't sweat getting him in just yet.

    Interesting to see someone else mentioning Richards. I've been considering him as the differential to the Kolarov differential 😆

    Reason being that with Zabaleta and Maicon out for at least the week, Richards technically has no competition at RB and so COULD start a few games at RB after Swansea (unlike Kolarov).

    The Mancini row has been a little overblown IMO. Mancini seems pretty tired of the whole thing and the media. Try watching the full interview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwXlwE7b21g

      Mata gives you an excellent midpark with a very strong front 3. For that alone, I'd take out Mata for him. How you find the extra money is a problem because you'll have to lose Maloney for something sub-4 mill in midpark.

      I hope more ship him out so his price drops as I want him in next week!

    Right, time for that panic transfer before the price rises.

    A) Dembele-> Bale
    B) Lambert-> Ba
    C) Giroud -> Ba

    Just leaving the front 8 and armband selection dilemma.

        Yeah, I know. Ta.
        Just think Ba's gonna score big this week.

          It's hard to say what is the best transfer

          If I had Giroud I'd hold for the fixture. Lambert > Ba seems like a good idea but I can tell it would be a big upgrade and possibly leave you with little in the bank?

            Loads in the bank, 6.1. As usual had a long term plan which is now crumbling. 🙂

      A. Hard to justify a place for Dem at present.

      Yes, you are the only one. Everyone has sold him. He is now at 0% ownership.
