As our recent Tweet has revealed, Andy Carroll’s availability for the Gameweek 23 remains a doubt, with Alan Pardew granting the striker a break in the sun to help him recuperate for the derby match with Sunderland.

Carroll has been sent to Dubai to rest and he is not set to return to a chillier climes until Wednesday with his fitness is set to be assessed the following day. Carroll’s Fantasy owners remain in the dark on his chances of making the Sunderland clash then but Alan Pardew did at least offer us this on the situation…

“It’s an injury that’s difficult to judge because it’s just a small tear in his thigh, but it’s a big muscle. Striking balls is a big problem. He’s walking and getting around feeling no problem but it’s when he starts kicking it will cause him a problem. We won’t know his chances until next Thursday.”

Carroll has already suffered an Fantasy Premier League price drop to 6.4 following his absence over the past two Gameweeks; his ownership has fallen from 54% to 47% in that time. With the Gameweek 22 wildcard now active, his sales seem set to continue and only confirmation of his availability for the clash with the Black Cats will likely stem that tide.

Personally, I’m holding tight. Like many of his Fantasy owners, I would suffer a heavy loss of funds if I sold Carroll on and, given his consistency and Newcastle’s mini-revival under Pardew, he may even present a decent differential on his return. That stance depends greatly on Thursday’s assessment however; if the prognosis suggests a prolonged absence, Carroll will surely suffer accelerated sales as wildcards are put to use before the Gameweek 27 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    hey guys

gw23 is over a week away but which 3 defenders would you play from:

Shawcross, Bardsley, Rafael, Coleman and Skrtel?

Cheers for feedback, and is Berbatov likely to start against Spurs or will Sir Alex play a lone striker?

Tough one. Def leave out Rafael. Then toss-up between Skrtel & Coleman. Leaving out Coleman is dangerous though as he's always liable to pop up with a goal/assist. He did really well in the reverse fixture.

Hey guys looking to play my wildcard, should I do
    Ferguson > Adam
Soderberg > Robinson (want him when he comes back)
Torres > any striker under 9.6 Bent/ Van persie any suggestions (already have nasri and fabregas)
    Konchesky > Coleman
    Simpson > Bramble Thoughts?

Why dump torres prior to gw 24 double? Worry about Robbo when he is fit. Soderberg...haha

No adam for gw 22? wow.

what are peoples views on this wildcard team

    foster/robinson
    acole/evra/sagna/bardsley/foley
    vdv/nani/fabregas/brunt/adam
    tevez/carroll/campbell

i would plan to alternate between brunt and bardsley depending on fixtures so dj campbell would normally stay on the bench but is it far too much money in defense? 0.3 in bank

I think A Cole is too expensive. Rafael rather than Evra. Sagna is not good value. With these changes you could have a better third forward than campbell (after the doubles)

I wouldnt have Evra Cole or any Arsenal defender tbh. Th rest looks Ok although note your mid 5 is probably same as everyone, I would ditch Brunt I seen WBA against Fulham and they are certs to go down.

    Repost from last page:
    Current team:
    Hart/Foster
    Coleman/Rafeal/Kolarov/Simpson/Bardsley
    VdV/Nani/Nasri/Adam/MGP
    Carroll/Tevez/Torres

    Should I wildcard to:
    Foster/*Stockdale*
    Coleman/Rafael/*Djourou*/Simpson/Bardsley
    VdV/Nani/Nasri/Adam/*Cesc*
    Carroll/Tevez/Torres

Really just to get more Arsenal coverage over the next couple gameweeks (including the double in 27). Later hoping I can get Torres -> Drogba (0.1 short now)

Alternative is to sit tight this gameweek and wait for 27 to do a similar thing.

Plan is to make 7 changes with WC in gw 24. In process bringing Fabregas, that none of the top 3 in my league has. Also adding an additional 3 double gw players in the process. Getting rid of dead wood such as Kyrgiakos.

          All at no cost.

          So i'd say yes.

Villa have amazing fixtures from GW26 onwards right upto GW36.

FUL blp BLA bol WOL eve NEW whu STK wba WIG

For people playing their WC late (on 26 or 27) I wonder if it might be worth to take a punt on a Villa player. Definitely monitor Clark & Albrighton's first team positions, otherwise Downing or even Heskey (?) could be good shouts. Opinions?

never Heskey, but yes as a late WC-er I'm considering Albrighton as my cheap mid. the fixtures are good and Villa cold present a good differential if Houliier goes or realises that poor squads either need to go all out like Blackpool or defend like b*ggery.

This question is for people who haven't used their "original" wildcard yet.

How much can we afford to take down our team value by the end of this wildcard? It's all right for those who are re-arranging their teams for the final time, but we have to consider that we'll be doing this again in a month or two.

I'm tempted by a wildcard team that loses Nasri and Bale, but I have 1 million worth of value tied up in them, and my team value will drop down to about 104.2 million after the move. Surely that's going to be a regret by the next wildcard?

Beckham close to signing for Spurs. Can't see this as a good move on the pitch, it's a Robinho-style transfer to boost the club's profile. Where would they use him? Surely he'll have some clause where he starts most matches.

Spurs are all about pace and impact. Putting a plodder like Beckham on the wing is making a massive change to the way they would play. There's that thing VDV said about Harry not really doing team talks- with a change like this, there needs to be some real thought about how they're going to play. Replacing Lennon with Beckham is hardly a straight swap...

Spurs - Arsenal GW28 will be cancelled due to the Carling Cup final (assuming Arsenal beat Ipswich in the semi), but might be rearranged in GW28 on the same day as the Che - Utd game.

Then either West Ham - Liverpool or Chelsea - Birmingham GW28 will also be cancelled due to the Carling Cup final. Chelsea - Birmingham won't be rearranged in GW28 because Chelsea are already playing mid week that week, but WHam - Liv could be.

RVP nailed down starter in premiership games? I know Wenger has said he is going to use him sparingly, but does that mean in the cups? Can anyone help, I wanna bring him in but only if hes gonna start. Im thinking of getting rid of Drogba for RVP and upgrading midfield to Malouda incase Chelsea start firing again.

RVP is not at all nailed down for the prem games - I doubt he will play in the FA Cup until the later rounds, but Champions League starts up again soon and he'll probably play both legs v Barcelona - luckily, Arsenal will be destroyed so Wenger won't have to worry about the CL any more.

possibly, but i'm considering it. i can see arsenal scoring a lot over the next 4 or 5 gameweeks, and undoubtedly they will come through those 3. it is a risk though.

+1, watch out for the Carling Cup final GW28 as well, although Arsenal's game might be rescheduled for mid-week in GW28 anyway.

I'm planning on all 3 for GW26 and 27, then probably do RVP to Rooney for GW28, and maybe lose Nasri.

I know what you're saying but Liverpool are performing way below par and the manager has to be able to lift that - even with some dodgy players.

He just seems unable to resurrect them in any way.

He'll only rise tonight by 0.1 max, and then only if loads of people (is it 25,000?) buy him today, which seems unlikely.

Like our Mauritian friend says above, he starts again from zero transfers in when protection is removed.

the 520% was just indicative and didnt take into consideration the protection period! In fact, protection ended today so NTI has been set to zero..
Difference with VDV is that the latter had loads of transfers AFTER his NTI was reset! Adam is getting much lesser transfers in since deadline has passed.. so dont expect a rise this gw except if he goes crazy vs lpool
