West Ham take a slender lead into the Carling Cup semi-final second leg in a fortnight, courtesy of a Ben Foster blunder that allowed Carlton Cole to hand the 10-man Hammers an advantage and Avram Grant some breathing space. Here’s the notes on last night’s events…

The urgency of West Ham’s pursuit of a loan deal for Wayne Bridge was emphasised by the fact that Matt Upson was started the game as an emergency left-back. Winston Reid came into the centre of the defence to partner James Tomkins. The Bridge deal could be finalised today and will be a welcome addition at Upton Park – his Fantasy credentials remain limited however.

Mark Noble and Scott Parker were a force in midfield as the Hammers dominated the first period. This pairing carry the hopes of survival and both will need to maintain form and chip in with goals if West Ham are to maintain their status. Parker in particular, could be a strong magnet for Bonus points over the remainder of the season.

Jonathan Spector was handed a midfield role once again and played his part in both goals. Spector is classed as a 4.1 defender in the Fantasy Premier League game and could come into consideration if he can maintain a midfield start.

Victor Obinna’s petulant kick out at Seb Larsson will see him miss two league matches against Arsenal and Everton, plus the second-leg at St Andrews. His absence will likely see Carlton Cole restored to the starting lineup against the Gunners, although Grant has other options with Luis Boa-Morte, Zavon Hines and Junior Stanislas also in the reckoning.

Scott Dann owners face an anxious wait after he was stretchered from the field with a hamstring injury to be replaced by David Murphy. Alex McLeish had this to say on the situation…

“Scott has a hamstring injury, and it looks like a tear. It’s a blow because he’s another player who has been in fine form…Our medical team will continue to assess him and we’ll have a clearer picture in the next 48 hours.”

Dann is obviously a major doubt for local derby with Villa this weekend and could face several weeks on the sidelines. Liam Ridgewell and Roger Johnson could both see increased interest over the next week or so then as Fantasy Managers consider Brum defenders ahead of their potential treble fixture in Gameweek 27.

Talking of which, despite Foster’s dreadful error for Carlton Cole’s winning goal, Birmingham will remain confident of turning the tie around at St Andrews. Should they win passage to the final, their recently rescheduled league fixture at Everton would be shifted to March 9 and dropped into Gameweek 29 which would leave them with a double here and give them with just the two fixtures in Gameweek 27.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Silva/Johnson Dzeko Tevez

Guys would you recommend to replace Stevie G. with Lamps for upcomming gw 23-24? then switch back (when he is back after ban)
my other mids are: VdV Adam Fergusson Nasri (team is linked for further details)

    3,2 in the bank

Thanks for your opinion in advance

Go Essien or Malouda (sturridge and kalou did well last weekend - so they will come on for him at some point). Save the money and make that defence stronger! Dann out as well. Because we have alot of double gameweeks coming up and chelsea are not involved in any of them.

I don't fully agree, Hutton has started 16 of last 17 games for Spurs, Corluka wants to leave... Rafael played 90 mins for 7 of last 8 games...Djourou will be 1st choice for at least another month and with his performances may even displace Konchielsky when Vermuelen is fit...

didn't know that about hutton. good to know though. I still think you have to look forward man u and tottenham have good depth and with CL coming up I think they'd rest rafeal and hutton in the PL

            @ kings of lyon

i agree that on past form these guys were rotational risk but i think going forward not so much.

Bosingwa should be the guaranteed starter ahead of Ferreira now that he's fully up to speed

Rafael seems to be entrenched at rb for man u

Hutton is preferred over Corluka at the moment and Harry only seems to rotate strikers

i think Djourou will be ahead of Koscielny going forward. Biggest risk is if Arsenal splash for top defender he will be 3rd if and when Vermalen comes back

chelseas 1st choice back 4 is

alex is due back end of feb, so watch this, and again he may be subject to CL rotation

which is better, doing wildcard after gameweek 24 deadline or after gameweek 26 deadline? why?

Also with that wild card should I stack as many double/triple gameweek 27 players in as possible or look slightly longer term?

Right I was all set on doing a WC for week 27, then someone suggested, do it for 26 and then save your transfer in 27 and then u have 2 for 28 to get rid of any unwanted DGW players. Problem is the DGW teams in 27 don't have great fixtures in 26 so u might not have a great side for 27. Anyone thought about this? (or even understand what the hell I'm sayin?)

I def have, DGWrs are good but no point if there going to cause hits and be dead wood for couple of weeks. I'm just going to go with it, and not ruin my team getting in doublers, as long as my captain is ona double i think i'lll be ok

Do we think that Adam will be withdrawn from the squad today so he doesn't risk injury before he gets sold? Or he might get sold today! Thik its a matter of time now, which is a shame.

I also hear that Johnson's partner has given birth and that he's in the team tonight but that might be wrong! Liverpool fans are clamouring for Kelly to be kept in so I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny bowed to them like he has with Konchesky / Greek out and Aurelio / Agger in.

I dont think Kenny bowed to the fans with that decision, it doesn't take a genius to know Agger & Aurelio >>>> Greek & Konchesky, it's just common sense.

It does look like he might be leaving, sadly. I think if it's up to Holloway, he'll play - he won't want to sell him anyway, so won't care if he picks up an injury that stops the transfer. If the board have a say in it, maybe he'll be dropped.

            Fair enough then.

The main reason I went for him was that Dj Campbell has been rubbish every time I've watched Blackpool, but he scored last game to make me a sad panda.

Pretty annoying news about GJ, that 1 point could do alot for me.

Dzeko at 9.5 could be one to keep an eye on if he is gonna be their main man up top. I have Tevez so will be holding fire for a few weeks and seeign what the craic is.

It is looking quite possible that Pienaar heads to spurs, this could pave the way for Bale to revert back to LB for some games - word is Harry still sees him as playing there in the future (don't understand that myself).

        Foster,

        Nani,Nasri,Adam,VdV(C),
        Drog,Tevez,Carroll.

        Subs: Krul,Barton,Jara,Evatt.

Don't want to make any transfers this week if Carroll is fit. Then next week I can do Drog->Torres,Carroll->Berba and Jara->Rafael for -4,or maybe Kolarov->Skrtel as well for -8,which will give me as many as 7 DGW players for GW 24.No problem with taking hits as I have taken just one hit in the last 6 GWs.How does that sound? And does anyone know if Carroll will be fit for the Tyne-Wear derby?

Trying to do a Columbo on Wenger's centre half targets. He's no doubt got a few in mind. Played in England... but not neccessarily English.

        I don't think it's Cahill - for various reasons.

        Has anyone got any ideas?

From the Prem I thought maybe: James Collins, Aaron Hughes, Jonny Heitinga (to double up as a midfielder)...
From the Championship: Wheater, Ashley Williams, Mark Beevers (I don't see a lot of Championship football but Arsenal scouts definitely do)

Or any ex-Prem players now playing abroad - out of favour with their clubs maybe, or just back from injury?

        Any ideas?

He'll probably end up promoting Miquel after all this... but it's fun thinking about it.

Sounds like it's hard as hell to get a good centre back if those are the ones Arsenal are looking at. I don't know much about Williams and Beevers but surely the rest of that lot are no improvement on the ones they already have?

Hey, Gargamel... (Edgar Ivan Pacheco - quality little Champ Man player! Got him from Atlas FC in Mexico and he's a little wizard!)

I'm thinking of centrehalves from clubs that would be willing to sell... and players that wouldn't mind eventually maybe being 4th or 5th choice centreback next season... as I don't see us going for someone to come in ahead of Koscielny and Djourou... maybe ahead of Squilacci... but more as back up than a Vermaelen replacement.

Possibly, I don't know. Some Dutch club was bought a while back. The new guy in charge is a friend of Abramovic apparently and allegedly basically his stringman, because of the rules concerning owning several clubs.
