A couple of midfield protagonists are set to sit on the sidelines after accruing their fifth booking of the season last weekend. Paul Scholes and Mark Noble will both miss out as West Ham travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with the latter’s absence particularly sore for his side, given he has started every league game so far for the Hammers.

The tightrope welcomes two new contenders after the weekend’s round of matches. Cheick Tiote may have been injured for much of the season but his penchant for picking up yellows remains unquenched – the Ivorian’s caution at St Mary’s yesterday take his tally to four yellows in all competitions ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Stoke on Wednesday. Wigan’s James McArthur fell foul of the ref in his side’s 3-2 win over Reading on Saturday and now balances precariously as the Latics prepare to welcome City to the DW.

Luis Suarez and Michu continue to avoid that fifth yellow which would earn them an automatic ban. With three strong home games in the next five, Suarez looks primed for significant Fantasy attention once again; his owners will be crossing their fingers he stays out of the ref’s notebook against Spurs on Wednesday, bearing in mind he then plays host to Southampton at the weekend.

Those players on four yellows have until New Year until the five-card amnesty kicks in. Basically, if they can avoid another booking in this calendar year, they will then be exempt from the customary one-match ban and receive no more than a warning regarding their future conduct. The limit then moves to 10 yellows, which would earn the guilty party a two-match ban. Most culpable so far are Ahmed El Ahmadi, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel, who lead the way on six yellow cards apiece.

Having served out a one-match ban in Everton’s draw with Norwich, Marouane Fellaini is available for selection as the Toffees host Arsenal, while Fabricio Coloccini will be welcomed back by Alan Pardew as injury-hit Newcastle make their way to Stoke.

Brede Hangeland and Emmanuel Adebayor are both set to skip the second match of their respective three-game bans this midweek.

Holding off on Ba > Suarez for one more GW. Expecting Spurs to dominate that game with Dembele back. IF Suarez doesn't get booked, i'll get him, if he does, I'll have Ba for Wigan. Sensible?

Yes. I did it because I'm not sensible, so if you're trying to be sensible then it makes sense to hold the transfer.

Also because I expect nothing from Ba vs Stoke, so Suarez gives me hope.

Suarez more likely to get points at spurs than Ba is at Stoke. I'd just do it now if I were you unless its for a hit.

agree stoke are tight at the back... Suarez always manages to get shots away and Spurs aren't defensively great.

On the same train of thought myself. I'm actually hoping he doesn't get booked this week, so I can get him in and Captain him vs Southampton.

Last week, was the week he should've gotten booked 🙁

So i have a massive dilemma and need assistance

    Begovic
    baines rafael cueller
    michu cazorla fellaini sterling nasri
    rvp berba ba

have 2FT and 0.6m in the bank. The main issues are what to do with ba and nasri.

I can do Ba >> ??? today before Ba's price drop. The question is to who?
-A: Ba >> Tevez? The problem is that he is rotation risk now. Shd i take the chance? this will still allow me to do nasri to sessegnon

B: Ba >> Suarez? He is on 4 yellows and am afraid of the suspension but if he doesnt get a yellow, he could explode against southampton. This move will leave me with nasri >> 6.6m mid (morrison/lallana). Also i can't get a sland coverage with this.

C: Ba >> giroud? But then will also do cazorla and nasri >> bale/silva + sess....The problem is i take a 4 point hit with this.

D: Ba >> fletcher? This will allow me to do nasri >> bale/silva. The problem with this is then i can't think of a way to bring in suarez if he doesnt get a yellow before the shampton game (is suarez a must have against shampton?). on paper a front 3 of berba rvp fletcher looks bad but i think it may work if my midfield is michu/fellaini/bale/sess/sterling

    Loads of confusion....leading towards C
    Thoughts??

I think your dilemma is basically the fact that you want Suarez in yes?

Berbatov to Fletcher this week. and Ba + Whoever > Suarez + Whoever next week, if Suarez doesn't get booked. All for free.

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of love for Gazzaniga if you're looking to free up funds. The way I see it is Boruc is basically in exile and Kelvin Davis is well out of favour (as he should be)

Gazzaniga had an excellent game against Newcastle and while his error cost them against Swansea, I don't see why he should be dropped any time soon.

    Just a thought.

Valencia and Ba both looking like they are going to fall in price.

They are both on my 'hitlist' to ditch, and I hate losing value, so:

    Valencia --> Sess
    Ba --> Defoe

Sound ok? Any other better alternatives to Defoe for up to 9.6m, or Sess for up to 9.1m?

If I do plan A it will leave me with plenty of funds to tinker with the week after and work some Arsenal into my team.

    Begovic
    Baines - Cameron - Cuellar
    Bale - Valencia - Ramirez - Pienaar
    RVP - Ba - Tevez

    Henderson - Hughes - Demel - Noble

not that I'm aware of but might be interesting to compare this year and last year's to see if there is truth in the assumption that more risk is needed this year to succeed. Would be a mammoth task though.

So everyone considering attacking coverage against QPR is in the same position I was when UNITED played them this week - although you may have something to say about which attack is better. Got in Rooney alongside RVP and expected a thrashing. Expected it even more when QPR played a second team. As it was, QPR held out for a full 64 minutes and even took the lead. In the end United relied on two corners scored by defensive players to turn it around. Given Harry's in charge now, I'm not expecting defeat to be any heavier to say the least.

Nasty question 😆 Rooney playing a lot better and RVP's obvious lack of finishing form puts me off RVP (C), but it depends if Valencia starts. If he does it's definitely RVP (C).

Looks like Valencia is out... I don't want to captain a midfield Rooney if Hernandez starts! But with Rooney playing striker if definitely in favour of him

Yes if by some miracle it turns out as 4-4-2 with two wingers and RVP and Rooney strikers I will be really tempted by a Rooney (C).

I don't like doing transfers based on one fixture. Somehow the points never seem to come when we expect them.

That's why I did it on 3 - RVP & Rooney for QPR, WHM and rdg. Based on the assumption all will start given they don't need to play in the preceding or succeeding CL games.

It's more of an argument for not just getting Sess this week because of the fixture rather than criticizing you!

In the past, top heavy teams with expensive strikers has been the way to go. However, this year, the baps system seems to be favouring other players more. I think we need to be wary of 'old customs' as FPL try to balance the game out.

This year is like no other for lots of reasons. Risk taking is the key, but the consequences can be devastating. In the old days you'd just captain Ronaldo or Lampard and sit back.

Yep. The BPs have subtly pushed towards midfielders IMO. Case in point being Suarez regularly denied his 3.

I still think top heavy teams are the way to go. We've seen points are not regular enough from midfield. Not for all 5, at least.

I think you're right, that's why i'm shifting to an RVP Aguero Fletch (->Berba eventually). But i'm wary of the rising threat of midfielders.

There are 3 strikers above 80 points. Not one Midfielder/defender/goalie has that many points...

I think you always have to look at the individual value of the players available and not get caught up with templates.

The reason big hitters aren't as essential is because they've not been playing regularly, with the exception of RVP. I think it could change with Rooney and Aguero starting regularly and if Suarez keeps up his production.

    Team for this week is:

    Mignolet
    Cuellar Rafael Cameron
    Bale Mata Silva Nolan
    Rvp Ba Berbatov

    Begovic Sterling Gorkks Nelsen

Considering taking out Ba but not sure who for.

Have 1 FT and 1.4 in the bank, any advice is greatly appreciated 🙂

You've got a nice balanced team, I might save the FT. I might think about upgrading Nelsen. If you really want Ba out, what about Lambert for the short term (NOR/liv/RDG) ?

    How does this sound:

Baines, Jelly, Morrison > Bassong, Suarez, Sess for a -4

    Would make my team

    Bego/Jussi
    Cuellar/Clyne/Hughes/Cameron/Bassong
    Bale/Mata/Michu/Sess/Sterling
    Tevez/Suarez/RVP

United in the FFS team news Section.

"Pablo Hernandez is pushing for a start having come off the bench to score again in Saturday's win. That could see Wayne Rooney shifted to a midfield role, perhaps on the flank with Hernandez leading the line and Robin Van Persie in support."

ignoring the mistake, do you think it would happen? Fergie falling into the same trap as Mancini with Dzeko? "Oh he scored off the bench again, I'll start him even though he rarely performs when starting and seems to score regularly from the bench"

Yeah I do see a bit of that. The only difference being that Hernandez has done a little better, having scored in his start against Wigan. He failed to score in his start against Norwich though. And against Galatasaray.

Who do United have available is the question, so we can look at the formations.

SAF says Anderson will start so with great skepticism I will assume that for now.

The other slot in central midfield could be taken by Fletcher, Carrick or Cleverley (not injured apparently, was he rested on Saturday?)

      So that gives us

      --------------RVP-----------------Rooney
      ? Anderson Fletcher/Carrick/Cleverley ?
      ---------------------Defence

With the two ? being two from Young, Valencia (?), Giggs and Powell?
