634x258 The Stock Check

A Hugo Rodallega header earns Martin Jol’s side the points and condemns Newcastle to their fifth defeat in six games. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s events…

On the Up

Damien Duff
A brace of assists took the reliable winger to five for the season and made Duff Fulham’s leading Fantasy Premier League points scorer. Duff has been rotated in and out of Martin Jol’s lineup of late but demonstrated his worth and even hinted that, if the Cottagers can get back to goalscoring ways long term, he could present an option, particularly from Gameweeks 19-22 when Fulham face three favourable home fixtures in four.

Steve Sidwell
Another unsung hero in the Fulham ranks, Sidwell was a tireless performer and capped his display with a fourth goal of the season: a strong return for a 5.1 FPL midfielder. Having started the last six, his place seems secure and, like Duff, he could well present a differential for Fulham’s kind schedule from Boxing Day onwards.

Hatem Ben Arfa
The mercurial Frenchman made his return to the Newcastle lineup and reminded of his talents with an equalising goal: his first strike in the league since Gameweek 3. Investment in Ben Arfa looks unlikely given Newcastle’s evil schedule but he’ll be a player expected to enjoy an upturn in 2013 and could yet come into the equation before the season ends.

Going Down

Dimitar Berbatov
The Bulgarian oozed class and was central to Fulham’s attacking ploys throughout; he also had opportunities to notch but the fact remains that Berbatov has now blanked in his last five league outings. With no goal, assist or bonus coming his way since his superb Gameweek 11 performance at the Emirates, it seems likely we’ll see continued sales. His price has dropped from 7.6 to 7.4 in the past two Gameweeks and the fidgeting and steady decline in ownership is likely to continue. Those that hold will be looking beyond the next two away matches and hoping for a change in fortune and, more significantly, a speedy return for Bryan Ruiz as Berbatov’s foil.

The Newcastle Defence
Despite the return of Fabricio Coloccini, Alan Pardew’s back four continued to leak goals: their only clean sheet in the last eleven matches has come against a Wigan side with 10-men for the majority of the match. Away from home, the Magpies have conceded twice in their last three trips. With Man City, United and Arsenal in their next four fixtures, it seems most unlikely that we’ll see an immediate turnaround in fortune.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do you think it would be a good idea to introduce an extra WC (get out of jail free card) where you could alter an entire section of your team one time over the season in addition to the other two Wildcards?

Basically, you play it and it allows you to change either your GK/Defence/Midfield/Attack in one go. So you'd change say all your midfield but that's it. The rest of your team remains the same. It costs you no points hits but you have to change every player to a different one. I think it would encourage differentials and the boringness of template teams.

    Is this a ridiculous idea?

        Think less is better ,

If there was a change i would like to see it would be to keep the 36 free transfers , but to be able to use them when you want. so that after 36 transfers every one after that costs four points.
Could use as many frees in a week as wanted (until the 36 all gone)

Agreed that the the template is going to make the end of the season horribly boring. The change to make could be single ownership of players. Ten owner mini leagues, draft the players, prices follow the FPL market, trade with other teams at will. We do it for American sports and it is a blast. I emailed this site to see if they wanted to pilot something but did not get a response. Might be on an island on this one, but just think if you had to decide whether to trade Bale and Johnson for Mata and Jose Enrique, knowing that you might not get either guy again, instead of moving them for a week or two and then changing right back.

    Begovic - Julio Cesar
    Rafael - Ridgewell - Cuellar - McCartney - Stam
    Cazorla - SessEggNog - Michu - Morrison - Puncheon
Van Pricey - Aguero - Berbatov

    1 FT, 1.5 in bank.

Is there anything other to be done than SessEggNog > Fellaini? Just seems 'too obvious', or am I over-thinking it?

and was going to play nelson over silva cos i was worried silva might only get a 20 minute cameo... but ended up leaving nelson as first sub.

Does anyone know where if there is a place that has player points by GW in an easily accessible format, such as, e.g., in excel format? In order to see game-by-game point totals on the official website, you have to click individually on each player, which makes it virtually impossible to do a game-by-game comparison. Thanks!

      Who knows.
However, JK needs to know whether he will have scrambled eggs or fried eggs on the morning of GW31.
His mini-league rival's transfers/ benching issues are obviously extremely important to all of us too, so we get a weekly update on that also.

He still has his chances before goal which will certainly increase once Ruiz returns. I'd be more concerned if wasn't playing good football. He is currently forced to drop deeper to carry possession and create more through the midfield.

I partially agreed with you. But some times players subconsciously tend to do that. Just like others perform better when they feel the pressure. We'll just have to wait and see. I'll keep him for now.

Ba's staying in my team for now. he's on peno duties after all, and City will be withot Kompany. but his spot in my team is the unsecure one (the other two are locked for RVP & Suarez), and might change into Defoe, Tevez/Kun & Berb given form.

    sess + rvp -> silva + rooney..

    had no other immediate problems..

are many others doing rvp -> roo given rooneys not playing as deep as before, plus hes on penos and in much better form, oh and did i forget 2 MILLION CHEAPER!!

santi has a nice run of fixtures ahead but no real fpl form. Silva away to newcastle could do some damage and has a very sweet run of fixtures to follow. Not sure about Demps yet but looks like he's hitting form. Taking a hit is up to you but might be worth it
