634x258 The Stock Check

A Hugo Rodallega header earns Martin Jol’s side the points and condemns Newcastle to their fifth defeat in six games. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s events…

On the Up

Damien Duff
A brace of assists took the reliable winger to five for the season and made Duff Fulham’s leading Fantasy Premier League points scorer. Duff has been rotated in and out of Martin Jol’s lineup of late but demonstrated his worth and even hinted that, if the Cottagers can get back to goalscoring ways long term, he could present an option, particularly from Gameweeks 19-22 when Fulham face three favourable home fixtures in four.

Steve Sidwell
Another unsung hero in the Fulham ranks, Sidwell was a tireless performer and capped his display with a fourth goal of the season: a strong return for a 5.1 FPL midfielder. Having started the last six, his place seems secure and, like Duff, he could well present a differential for Fulham’s kind schedule from Boxing Day onwards.

Hatem Ben Arfa
The mercurial Frenchman made his return to the Newcastle lineup and reminded of his talents with an equalising goal: his first strike in the league since Gameweek 3. Investment in Ben Arfa looks unlikely given Newcastle’s evil schedule but he’ll be a player expected to enjoy an upturn in 2013 and could yet come into the equation before the season ends.

Going Down

Dimitar Berbatov
The Bulgarian oozed class and was central to Fulham’s attacking ploys throughout; he also had opportunities to notch but the fact remains that Berbatov has now blanked in his last five league outings. With no goal, assist or bonus coming his way since his superb Gameweek 11 performance at the Emirates, it seems likely we’ll see continued sales. His price has dropped from 7.6 to 7.4 in the past two Gameweeks and the fidgeting and steady decline in ownership is likely to continue. Those that hold will be looking beyond the next two away matches and hoping for a change in fortune and, more significantly, a speedy return for Bryan Ruiz as Berbatov’s foil.

The Newcastle Defence
Despite the return of Fabricio Coloccini, Alan Pardew’s back four continued to leak goals: their only clean sheet in the last eleven matches has come against a Wigan side with 10-men for the majority of the match. Away from home, the Magpies have conceded twice in their last three trips. With Man City, United and Arsenal in their next four fixtures, it seems most unlikely that we’ll see an immediate turnaround in fortune.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ba to Rooney funded by Walcott to ? 8.1 max

Giving me Suarez RVP Rooney up top. Could get some massive points a week from that lot alone!

Very tempting with the Mancs next few games.

Just got Rooney and complete those front 3. As a Man United fans, more excited to watch them play when you have RVP, Rooney and Rafael. Imagine Rooney takes left CK, RVP takes right one, Rooney on pens, RVP on FK, Rafael with crosses...

Could keep Ba or go Berbs to get Bale but that bores me a bit. lol.

Raf.. pffft folded this week didnt I and got a DGWer in... He got 9 didnt he? Nice trifecta tho for sure.

Looking good. Long term I'm not sure about Long. I'd rather have Lambert or upgrade to a Berba/Ba/Defoe (especially when you dont have RVP, you should splash a bit more on ATT).

Silva>Bale when he's fit for me too.

Oh and this week- Morrison over Clark surely? (or is he injured?)

Possibly injured, Morrison really only for DGW. Villa conceded 1 in last 4 although 3 were at home. Reading conceded 10 in last 4, 3 were away but generally Reading defence is poor and Villa's improving big time. Clark is playing really well and a goal threat from set-pieces.

I disagree, I don't believe I am contradicting myself necessarily here. His big points have come erratically and he's been benched 3/4 games in the last 6 I think? WAY too risky to own him if that continues. He scores high in FPL because he is world class...but dear god it scares me the thought of buying him until we can say for sure he's first choice. The agony of him being benched would make me just sell him instantly.

But maybe you just buy him and hold him regardless if he gets benched, because he continues to get the points, albeit erratically. It means you can't captain him, but that's OK. That's what King Eric is doing and it has resulted in 100 of his ~900 points so far coming from Tevez...

If you happened to own him then fine but who can buy him right now and say he will play every game? Nobody...he's been a major success this year points-wise but I do think it is important that your striker is nailed on and you can captain them because otherwise it's just random and a mixture of endless agony and ecstacy. And we don't know if he will repeat his heroics over the second half of the season.

Well, I'd rather have a world class striker who scores big than a nailed on striker. He has delivered in a number of games where he has come off the bench...so I am not sure that the fact he is not nailed on is enough of a deterrent not to own him...

I'm really stumped as to where to go with my team now. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

    Bego - Tremmel
    Enrique* - Nasty - Caulker - Cuellar - McCartney
    Mata* - Felliani - Michu - Sterling - Puncheon*
    RVP - Suarez - Berbatov

    1FT & 3.0 in the bank

    I'm considering:
    A) Mata>Santi (then Santi>Bale when he's back)
    B) Berba>Defoe
    C) Cuellar>Davies (freeing up cash to be used at a later date)
    D) save transfer play 4-3-3 and then have two frees to do Nasty/Enrique>Davies & Sterling>Bale
    E) any other suiggestions?

I am thinking Sess > Bale if he is fit OR Fletcher >> Adebayor if Bale is not fit OR Fletcher >> Tevez.

Yeah but it just doesn't work as simply as that I feel. Dzeko and Balo will always be there eager to get on or start the odd game.

But it does mean he will get more playing time, I'd hope. I am not sure Silva is the best way into City right now, despite what Granville says.

Granville got Silva as a differential I think really. Not sure he really believes he's as essential as he makes out. Basically I don't think it's quite the same with City this year. it did feel like Aguero/Silva were essential last year because they were hammering every side every week. It's been a very odd start for them...haven't regained the fluidity that terrified opponents last year.

Really felt like I made a decent decision captaining Berbatov when you look back on his performance. It's obvious he's not suffering from any lack of confidence or is failing to hit the target/create chances. I guess the team around him just isn't all that great and that's a defining factor. But on another night he could have had so much more.

I agree. It was a decent shout this week. And it must have been very frustrating seeing him miss his chances and other miss the chances he created. He could have had 2 goals and 1 assist today.

      This game is cruel.

It's cruel because we focus so much on the minor details. I was overjoyed watching that match though from an objective view...really exciting I thought and I enjoyed the suspense of having a captain in a live match who wasn't RVP for once 🙂

Oh well...if Cuellar and Mignolet can snatch a CS I'll be on for 56 points...a very respectable total

No, not if you think your boys can better them.

I didnt have Silva in his breakout season and I covered him easily.

Not having RVP may be a problem tho as so many have him but as you are looking at Rooney then you could stick as it will just be like swapping one differential for another.

decent transfer. I think though that I would have downgraded one of your defenders to fund the Suarez move, and perhaps kept walcott. Snodgress is an interesting punt though. Your defense has quite a lot of money in it, you can definitiely do without 2 of those big hitters (including shawcross in that).

McA to puncheon / snodgrass is a good move and one I am considering when I have a transfer to burn.

Sess to Silva is also a good move.

Both Torres and Tevez (less so now) are concerns for me. Torres because he is shite, let him go at least two games in a row before you make the mistake of believeing he is back as he is not...

Before Ballotelli played shite against UTD I had a feeling Tevez would be rotated with Kun. However after his performance when he came on I have a feeling Mancini will now stop messing around and will play the pair together with Dseko / Balo coming on as subs if necessary

So waiting on Torres for now and getting Tevez in for City cover

            My midfield now would be

Fellani, Snodgrass, Mata, Walcott, Sess for this GW

If Walcott is out for weeks I would take him off for Bale or Demps
            Sess for Puncheon.

                I need Tottenham cover too.

Need a mix bag team with City, Tott, Chelsea, Ars cover

Silva doesnt look in form and is offen injured so I will have Tevez as City cover.

I need to find out how do i get Tott cover - Demps or Bale. Not considering Defoe as Adebyor is now fit.

If Walcott is fit I wouldnt want to take him off too

Also want Snodgrass and Puncheon both in mids which I can rotate.

                My ideal MIDFIELD would be:

                Walcott, Fellani, Snodgrass, Puncheon, Mata
                Roonpig, Suarez, Tevez

Puncheon could be bought in 2 weeks time for Snodgrass which play Chelsea and City at home.

Maybe will take an ARS defender for Ridgewell in coming weeks for ARS cover.

    B) Fletcher > Defoe
    C) Evans > Mertesacker
    D) Any two for a hit

      would keep Mata
would be worried about Defoe's game time but he is on fire so maybe..
would get either Nasty or Gibbs instead of Mertasloth

          Cheers everyone.

And to the chap below, Valencia, no mate. Absolutely not. He's not looking very good this season.

Keep Mata. Deal with the other three. Take out the player who is least likely to make the starting lineup due to rotation/injury

      indeed..

this reminds me of when my son at the ages of 1 and a half decided it would be fun to throw himself off the couch onto a hard marble floor.... same type of bruise came up instantly... straight to the hospital was very concerned but all was ok thankfully.... oh the joys of parenthood

So, what is the knee jerk transfer for this week? Rooney in? Asking this question again, will Mirallas return have any effect on the attacking returns from Fellaini ?

I had always planned the pig transfer this week, bit annoyed as now lots more will do it.

      Mirallas return will help Fellaini

Mm, there was some guy posting here a couple of weeks ago that it won't help Fellaini. Also, am tempted by Fellaini -> Mata next week so wanted to ask. Should monitor this week as well, then.

Actually thinking about it I am not sure....

Either way I wouldn't get rid of Fellaini.. I finally succumbed last week and brought him in...

    Dear Stephane Sessegon,

I know that i have removed you last night for Dempsey, however that move was purely due to your upcoming tough fixture.

Could you therefore, do some shit tonight and score an unexpected 10 pts perhaps? It will be much appreciated as a good bye gift to us who put a faith on your amazing ability.

    Thanks in advance
