Arsenal’s class proved too much for Leeds’ bluster in pulsating FA Cup replay at Elland Road. Samir Nasri’s weaved his magic to create the foundations, before Robin Van Persie ultimately ended the hopes of the Championship challengers in front of their noisy faithful…

Arsene Wenger predictably shuffled his teamsheet once again. In came Nicklas Bendtner, Chamakh, Kieran Gibbs, Denilson, Arshavin and Bacary Sagna – the latter returning from a three-match suspension. That meant that the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Eboue all dropped out.

Samir Nasri was handed the skipper’s armband on the night with Cesc Fabregas starting life on the bench. The Frenchman responded with a display typical of a season which has seen him emerge as Player of the Year candidate. Nasri’s smart finish for Arsenal’s opener was the icing on a cake crafted from seemingly endless prompting and passing. Nasri glided through a crowded Elland Road midfield to dominate matters. He remains a key component of our Fantasy squads, despite the return of Fabregas and Robin Van Persie onto the Arsenal scene.

That pairing played their part in the victory – both emerged from the bench to combine to kill the tie off. It was Fabregas’ pass that set Nicklas Bendtner scurrying down the right flank to find Van Persie with a delicious cross which he duly converted with a header for the third goal; a reminder of the Dutchman’s often forgotten qualities as a centre-forward. Van Persie he offers so much more than far post headers but, in this instance, his ruthless contribution was telling and the goal will only raise his profile further as FPL Managers contemplate their wildcard squads.

Bacary Sagna had earlier blasted Arsenal into a two goal lead – an advantage that looked unassailable given their dominance. Bradley Johnson’s incredible 30-yard effort changed the complexion but Arsenal’s class and Van Persie’s intervention was to prove too much for Simon Grayson’s side.

Wenger’s team selection for the weekend clash with Wigan will be interesting. We should of course expect starting roles for Van Persie and Fabregas. Theo Walcott would also seem set to earn a recall and his fifth consecutive league start. He will likely come in for Andrey Arshavin who dwindled several opportunities at Elland Road. The back four would seem likely to remain untouched, aside from Clichy’s recall to left-back. Johan Djourou looks set to continue then and offer clean sheet potential against Wigan for a price of 4.2.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Yeah played it.

      Went through 3 drafts already.

      Current team:

      Foster, Al-Habsi

      Vidic, Coleman, Djourou, Kelly, Baird

Fabregas, Nani, Van Der Vaart, N'Zogbia, Adam

      Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie

Are you not worried about Al Habsi possibly being replaced by Kirkland? Its happened once already this season for whatever reasons?

I like him as a handcuff to Hart , but that aspect does worry me somewhat about wildcarding him in. (I'm hoping to WC in GW27 so his status longterm may be clearer by then).

Team looks good on paper but some things to keep in mind

        1. Arsenal will have no fixture gw 28
        2. You're totally excluding Liverpool
        3. Who do u bench this week with that lot ? Tevez and vdv can score big even in a single week so they have to be played

    Aight, first rmt lads,

    Foster / al habsi
    Coleman zabaleta Huth pantsil evra
    Nzog Adam kuyt nani vdv
    Rvp berbz tevez

I am pretty satisfied with my defense , I would have to bench vdv this week though , don't think that's a good idea

Some Liverpool coverage seems necessary but toreros so expensive hence plumper for kuyt

I don't like it much. This is your last wildcard. It'll control the rest of your season.

Only Van Persie as Arsenal coverage isn't good enough. Defense is also comparatively pricy, and Huth doesn't have favorable fixtures for a while.

Huth next 2 aren't good , his fix after that are great

An expensive defense seems essential for the run in, all my defenders have attacking potential

          Djourou, Nasri and Fabregas.

Djourou will play. He's a good option. Highly recommended.

Nasri is a bit hit and miss with Fabs in the side, but you should really find space for Fabs. He'll be worth it long term. There aren't any other players that high in price really worth investing in. Fabs has the fixtures, the bonus drawing ability and the best attacking side in the league behind him.

You get what you pay for.

      Hi,
regardless of if's it is a decent question though having played my WC this week for a '3 week boost' before GW27.. this post has now worried me that 2 WC's during the window might be prevented.. The rules do say 1 WC at 'anytime' so i think it will basically just offer another one up next week when i go to transfer...

2 Keepers there who could potentially yet be replaced by the guys who started the season as the first choice keepers for those two teams.

Begovic is the best cheap keeper. Freeing up some funds for Foster (who is virtually fixture proof as he accumulates a lot of save points) would be preferable though.

Thats an expensive frontline that's destined to frustrate you most weekends, I'm afraid.

and i can't afford foster =X, or is it worth it to free up some funds elsewhere? was thinking of doing that 2 weeks later with 2 freebies, before his potential tgw

You're wildcarding this week so you have got to make it count. This is the last chance all season you will have to make wholesale changes without taking points hits.

Think about it. You don't want to be wasting free transfers on having to change keepers in a few weeks time, so get 2 in who will be able to serve you the rest of the way.

Plus what formation are you going to play most weeks? if its 3-4-3 (which it would really need to be with the strikers you have picked) then 3 of your defenders have to play every week.

I'd gamble on Kelly instead of Jara, and do Hangeland instead of Skrtel. Also get Morrison instead of Brunt as you will benching him most weeks anyway, if you think about it!

When Rafael comes back you can always downgrade Evra at that point to free up cash for other changes if necessary.

Not crazy, to go with those two, I'd say that you're hedging your bets there. You'd think there'll be goals for both of them this GW so why not.

Personally, I'd play safe and go for Rooney if I had the funds, as I think he'll play both games and will get assists and any pens they may get.

I'd either keep Tevez with the other or get Bent or Van Persie to spread the wealth.

do i have the right bench?
i should have Nolan on but Nani Adam Campbell Baird and Rio all have doubles, Djourou has wigan at home and im not benching VdV

    who would you bench?

    Al-Habsi
    Baird - Baines - Ferdinand - Djourou
Van der Vaart - Nani (C) - Fabregas - Adam
    Campbell - Tevez

    Bench:
    Hart

    Carroll
    Nolan

Hi Jafalad - You think it's madness to go with Rooney AND Berba this week?

Most people have Rvp, Rooney, Tevez or Rvp, rooney, Torres. Incase of later, one can do Torres -> Tevez next week. Am No for Berba, he gets lazy at times

Not necessarily madness. As Mark pointed out earlier, BLP and BIR have given up more shots on goal than any other team in the last two games. So goals look plentiful for Utd.

However, I'm no fan of doubling up on forwards as I am with defenders. Rooney's lack of form would concern me and represents poor value. Just Berba for me. He does have a 25 goal target to go for don't forget.

In fact Tevez, Berba and RVP represents a very good front 3. Fabregas or Nasri is another dilemna.

Prefer to let my team do the talking I guess 😉

I agree, I was just thinking of doubling up on Rooney/Berba for the double and then switching one of them back to Tevez.

I just don't think it's worth getting a ManU def as they prob wont keep a CS vs Blackpool.

I'd play Nolan. He does his best point scoring at home and Spurs away not looking like they'll shut out the Magpies.

I'd drop Djourou, Arsenal have kept 3 cleanies in a row, the odds of a 4th are long in my opinion as I don't think anyone has done it so far this season? Baines gives you cleanie potential and attacking points.

    Herez my team. Please RMT.

    Baines-Coleman-Ferdinand-Djourou
    Nasri-VdV-Nani-Adam
    Rooney(c)-Tevez

    Subs: Foster-Odemwingie-Barton-Kolarov

I wouldn't waste my wildcard on Foley, to be honest with you, fantasy freak.

If you want a cheapie def then Djourou or Kelly both represent better value and points potential for only £0.2m more.

Wolves have a tough slate of games still to come and concede a lot of goals so Foley does up getting penalized by losing points for it. Unless he scores he'll more often than not pick up just 1 pt most weeks.

Need a new keeper for GW24 and GW25.
    My options are:
    A) Reina (wol/FUL/STK)
    B) Stockdale (STK/liv/NEW)

To me they are about even with a slight edge to Reina. However, recent posts regarding the issue seem to favour Stockdale.

Depends if you're wildcarding or not.

If you will be using your wildcard between next week and GW27 then Stockdale is a good shout.

Otherwise you will probably have to get rid of Stocks once Schwarzer comes back in a few weeks time.

Wolves are playing Liverpool at home and just went on the road and put 3 past Citeh.

Based solely on what you've seen over the past few weeks which team do you think is more likely to keep a cleanie, Fulham or Liverpool?

The away games cancel eachother out I think (CS odds disagree and give Liverpool a better chance). Both Wolves and Liverpool will probably score.
Fulham seem to concede more goals at home than Liverpool do and while Stoke is a favourable fixture for them I'd still give the edge to Reina since Fulham does not score that much on the road.
Next week Liverpool have Stoke while Fulham have Newcastle with Carroll likely to return, I'd say Reina looks the better choice next week as well.
