Arsenal’s class proved too much for Leeds’ bluster in pulsating FA Cup replay at Elland Road. Samir Nasri’s weaved his magic to create the foundations, before Robin Van Persie ultimately ended the hopes of the Championship challengers in front of their noisy faithful…

Arsene Wenger predictably shuffled his teamsheet once again. In came Nicklas Bendtner, Chamakh, Kieran Gibbs, Denilson, Arshavin and Bacary Sagna – the latter returning from a three-match suspension. That meant that the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Eboue all dropped out.

Samir Nasri was handed the skipper’s armband on the night with Cesc Fabregas starting life on the bench. The Frenchman responded with a display typical of a season which has seen him emerge as Player of the Year candidate. Nasri’s smart finish for Arsenal’s opener was the icing on a cake crafted from seemingly endless prompting and passing. Nasri glided through a crowded Elland Road midfield to dominate matters. He remains a key component of our Fantasy squads, despite the return of Fabregas and Robin Van Persie onto the Arsenal scene.

That pairing played their part in the victory – both emerged from the bench to combine to kill the tie off. It was Fabregas’ pass that set Nicklas Bendtner scurrying down the right flank to find Van Persie with a delicious cross which he duly converted with a header for the third goal; a reminder of the Dutchman’s often forgotten qualities as a centre-forward. Van Persie he offers so much more than far post headers but, in this instance, his ruthless contribution was telling and the goal will only raise his profile further as FPL Managers contemplate their wildcard squads.

Bacary Sagna had earlier blasted Arsenal into a two goal lead – an advantage that looked unassailable given their dominance. Bradley Johnson’s incredible 30-yard effort changed the complexion but Arsenal’s class and Van Persie’s intervention was to prove too much for Simon Grayson’s side.

Wenger’s team selection for the weekend clash with Wigan will be interesting. We should of course expect starting roles for Van Persie and Fabregas. Theo Walcott would also seem set to earn a recall and his fifth consecutive league start. He will likely come in for Andrey Arshavin who dwindled several opportunities at Elland Road. The back four would seem likely to remain untouched, aside from Clichy’s recall to left-back. Johan Djourou looks set to continue then and offer clean sheet potential against Wigan for a price of 4.2.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think there are a couple risks in there, I myself wouldn't have both United strikers in there, nor would I have Bale. Carroll might be a good shout but who knows whether he is still out :s Not bad otherwise though

Not a big difference, check the stats. And the difference is more than 2m, which gives you plenty options for more decent defenders...
But, hey, if you have a feeling for Fabs, disregard this

Where is all this love for fabregas coming from? Surly recent games have shown rvp, nasri and even walcott would be better choices for arsenal players in you team and fabs has not been raking up the point enough to justify his price. I actually have fabs in my current team and I’m considering getting rid in a gw27 WC team

Maybe, maybe not – there are no certainties. He is definitely not as ‘essential’ as he has been in recent seasons as there are plenty of other good mid priced midfield options this season

Because when Arsenal play well he is normally involved in everything.

He's had so many injury setbacks this season but still managed good points hauls when he's played.

Last season he was the best FPL player by far when fit.

No reason why you can't accommodate him as well as Nasri and RVP

    LEAGUE CUP CONFUSION!

Why is there any doubt over Birmingham's triple gameweek when the last of the 3 games is 4 or 5 days before the league cup final?

Unless I'm missing something, surely only the GW28 fixtures are in jeopardy?

Note: it is highly likely I am indeed missing something.

Because when the fixture was arranged it was subject to Birmingham not being in the final. Presumably if they are in the final they want a week to work towards it rather than 4 days.

The implications are quite significant. If they lose to West Ham they will have a triple gameweek in week 27 and one game in week 28 and week 29.

If they beat West Ham they have double gameweeks in 27 and 29 but no game at all in week 28.

If the final is Birmingham v Arsenal it means no Arsenal, Spurs, Birmingham and Chelsea players in week 28.

Given that most of us may well have half a dozen players from these clubs, getting a full team out could be interesting to say the least.

No problem, trying to plan two DGWs and week 28 for my wildcard is doing my head in - probably should have waited for a bit but my season has turned into a trainwreck and I have 100+ points deficits in my mini-leagues to overcome.

Seriously tough to do at the moment.

I'm happy with my plan for dealing with everything up to week 27, but 28 could be a nightmare if Brum and Arsenal both make it through - I think I'm going to limit the number of players from he risky teams in week 27 to avoid having to take a 16 point hit just to field 11 players the week after!

    --VDV--N'Zog--Fab--Nani--Adam---

    Guys RMWCT pls

    Team
    Foster Bergovic
    Huth Coleman Rafael Djorou Walker
    Nani Fab VDV Adam Brunt
    RVP Tevez Carroll

Leaving me 4.1 in the bank, enough for Chelsea double in Gw28.
Should have 10 doubles for gw27

    Planning to WC in gw26

Lol. Does he know he can do that? I did that first time around, my H2H opponent thought I was an idiot - I had the last laugh.

      Inalize, would you prefer

      Rooney+Nasri+Ferdinand

      OR

      Berbatov+Fabregas+5.3 defender?

      Thanks!

James - I would not really be able to make a choice as I like Rooney from the first three and Fab from the second 3...

Im not a Ferdinand fan and he was limping(cramp?) in last game. I can see manU conceding vs Blackpool anyway.

Rooney vs Berba dilemma is very tough for me. I might have both to be honest...but that would mean dumping tevez after his last game.Crazy I know.

Tbh Im not a Ferdinand fan either, but what other option do I have at that price? Skrtl? If Rafael only gets a 1 match ban, I will certainly be getting him in instead, otherwise will buy him the following week when he returns (for Skrtl).

Its just a question of whether Rooney can outscore Berbatov by enough to make Nasri over Cesc worthwhile. In the match against spurs I thought Rooney looked good. Its just a gut feel that he is coming to form. I watched RVP in the match against man city and on that basis bought and captained him vs WHM - it was clear he was back, despite not scoring. Berbatov gets lazy sometimes, whereas Rooney is always working hard. The goals are around the corner I feel

          Tough decisions these!

You cant dump Tevez. Not for Rooney or Berb.

I had the "rvp is back feeling" prior to last week and did nothing. Paid the price.

I agree with you on Rooney. I have the same feeling I had about him that I had about rvp....

With the way United set-up this season does it not mean:

Rooney + Form = Berbatov points

Getting the most bang for your buck with Arsenal is going to prove tricky...Fabregas, Nasri and RvP all look tempting, with Arshavin and Walcott not a million miles behind given they will be rotating heavily....

Why the hell is everyone getting rid of Tevez for Torres when Tevez is probably the form player in the league and doesn't look to be getting worse anytime soon. Crazy.
