Tony Pulis will need to reshuffle his defensive options after two of Stoke’s regular back-four fell foul of the referee’s wrath against Liverpool in Boxing Day. Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron will now sit out the Potters’ home clash against Southampton after accruing their fifth cautions of the campaign in Wednesday’s 3-1 win:

The duo are two of four players who are set to serve an automatic one-match ban in Gameweek 20. Villa’s Fabian Delph and Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson are also sidelined against Wigan and Arsenal respectively.

While those four are unavailable, a quartet of new protagonists appeared on the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their fourth cautions of the campaign in midweek. Yaya Toure, Bradley Johnson, Jean Beausejour and Maynor Figueroa will all need to be on their best behaviour this upcoming weekend, as will 27 other players, including the likes of Robin Van Persie, Michu, Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Nolan; once Gameweek 20 is out the way, though, the limit is then extended to 10 yellows. So far, a quartet on players lead the race for that dubious honour – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel all have seven bookings apiece.

Both Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole are available this weekend, however. The FA have overturned three-match bans handed out to the pair in West Ham’s Gameweek 18 home clash with Everton – good news for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Cole as a possible double Gameweek punt; the 4.9 priced forward has produced two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games since deputising for the injured Andy Carroll.

Elsewhere, Cheick Tiote returns for Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal after sitting out their 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final fixture of his three-match ban as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

I haven’t really assessed the Jan WC and when I’m planning to use it. (I know, signs of being a poor manager). But when are you chaps planning to use it and the reason behind using it that particular week??

gw 24: after the dgw to get team sorted after that. allows you to perhaps have an extra punt or two before then, either for the dgw or not. also allows you to wait to see any new signings: if they are late you know about them, if they are earlier signings you can see how they do first

The DGW in GW23 is a blessing imo. I'm thinking of loading it, and then use the WC in gw24, to catch all the deadline day signings and re-assess the players situation caused by those signings.

    Repost.

Another in depth discussion i want here. 3 mistakes you have made this season which could have seen you shoot higher. I think about these constantly and being placed fairly high in the rankings, i keep thinking about where i could have been otherwise.

    1) Missing out on Cazorla’s 23 point freak haul. Lost a lot of ground there.
    2) Benching Michu for a 16 pointer vs. Arsenal. I did not play Michu because i had Mert and despite deciding to hedge the bets, i decided to roll the dice.
    Two important lessons learnt :
ALWAYS hedge your bets. Greenwindmill hand an excellent post regarding this i remember.
Bench Sterling when you have a strong option like Michu. Don’t be too swayed by fixtures.
    3) Being patient. There are two coins to this one. I lost patience with Tevez and sold him just before his 19pter. That said, Suarez scored 2 goals that same GW. I was convinced about Bale this week and did Silva -> Bale(-4). Crucial move in the context of the game.

I’d like to know about yours as well.

      1. Benching Michu vs Arsenal.
      2. Not (C)ing Bale the many times he was a viable (C) option, cause I'm nervy (C)ing a midfielder
      3. A poor Wildcard in GW 3.

I'd want to add Mata in there, I got rid of him for Fellaini before Mata's blank, and it didn't really work out that well. I got Silva in for Caz in the week that both got double digits score against Aston Villa and Spurs respectively. Most have really worked out for me though. Been a bit lucky.

      1. Transferring Suarez for Jelavic just before Luis goes on that goal-scoring run from GWs 9-12. In addition, missing out on Suarez's Norwich hat trick.

      2. Transferring Michu out for Sessegnon for a 4-game punt before Sunderland's DGW; Michu then proceeds to scores 3 goals in the next 2 games. I got Michu back in and lost value.

      3. Transferring out Mata for Silva (3 home games in 4) after Rafa's 1st game in charge where Mata came off the bench. Mata scores 2 goals in the next 2 games.

1 - The one mistake that got the ball rolling (downhill) was taking out Bale after 3 blanks… the first of many bad decisions I’ve made… I’m determined to be more patient second half of the season…

2 - WCing in GW12, again showing a lack of patience with my team and several players, who went on to score well... Bale, Ba, Cazorla, Michu, Lambert etc..

3 - Generally jumping on bandwagons and not showing enough patience with the players I have and taking too many hits... (5 this season already)...

More patience needed is the moral here..

Here's a thought for the potential Walcott captainers (including Mrs China Mag). With williamson out, and perchinio playing centre back, we will have very little height at the back. Wenger might play Giroud to exploit that. Would that mean Walcott back to the right side? Or the bench?

Alright lads, havent posted here in a while but thought would give it a go again :

    Team:
    Bunn (Tremmel)
    Nelsen Rafael Enrique (Shorey Cuellar)
    Bale Snodgrass Silva Puncheon (Michu)
    RVP Suarez Torres

    1 FT, 0.2 in bank
    Options
    1. Boring transfer - Shorey to Baird for free. Worried about Baird possibly being dropped due to rotation, plus shorey might get recalled?
    2. Torres to berba, snodgrass to walcott for -4
    3. Torres to berba, puncheon to walcott, rafael to 4.5def
    4. Silva to Walcott for free

    any other suggestions welcome

    Torres - Defoe

    Me
    Gibbs - GJ - Demel/Shorey

    @china mag

you and your handy spreadsheet 😀

would you play him this week? or away to norwich?

the thing is the reading game is the dgw so not sure if i'd play him then.. would it be madness to bench michu (home to stoke) for him? or lambert home to everton?

OK. I'm not sure that I would play him that week either. Basically what got me thinking about him was that when I planned out my rotation between now and the WC, puncheon didn't feature in a single game. So I thought if I could, I might as well downgrade him for a 4m mid, and pocket the cash. Then I remembered my man marveaux. IF he plays then I would much prefer to have marveaux coming off my bench, than puncheon. If he doesn't play, then I would only be missing a 1-2 pointer from puncheon (based on fixtures)

Well I have outdone even myself this week. 12pt hit.

Not taking hits has got me nowhere really so far (hell even some of the hits, no, most of the hits ive done so far haven't really either).

Changed my entire front line and took monstrous punts (one more so than the other though), in Ruiz and Hernandez in for Defoe and Suarez. Got RVP BACK IN ....for the 3rd time.....for Rooney!!!

Did Puncheon to Bale with the spare dosh, and Silva to Walcott for Ars fixtures and DGW.

    begovic
    Shorey Enrique Rafael
    Mata Michu Bale Walcott
    Chicharito RVP(c, forever) Ruiz!!!

silva to walcott or cazorla?? am sure lots of people have this dilemma.

Caz - not injury prone, consistent, sure starter....but a bit like silva
walcott - gametime risk but def more explosive but with giroud available, dont think he will start upfront. If he doesnt start upfront, do you think he will start? with ox/gervinho and podolski both on the wings..

Jack. In case you haven't noticed, we haven't been playing with wide midfielders this season, so the fullbacks have to provide the width. So when santon goes to the line and whips in a cross that gets cleared, or beats a couple of men and takes a shot that the keeper just holds onto, and the ball gets booted to the other end of the pitch, and santon can't quite get back in time to put a tackle in, he isn't being "caught out of position". It should be up to the centre backs and mids to cover for him.

I think what you're saying is probably true, but hey, he's a defender, maybe the tactics are faulty, giving too much freedom for the full-backs to go up, but in any case, it's either the manager's fault, or the player's.

I would say both pardiola, and the players (but not santon). With the system we have been playing, when a santon attack breaks down, either one of the mids should cover him, or drop back into centre defence and colo cover.

He has been suspect defensively when I have watched him. I know its hard for you to swallow the fact that one of your players has been poor all season but still. I dont see how you can blame the midfielders or centre backs either, if he is going forward then that is the risk he takes. He isnt even that great offensively either.

His job is to defend. He rarely gets goals or assists if ever so his attacking isnt really producing much and he is leaving the defence is exposed. But I guess that is everyone elses fault.

Quality going forward, maybe yes, but really China Mag, you've got to understand that he needs to defend as well. He's not a good defender, whatever reason that maybe, being caught out too far ahead, but I think JOA is not wrong is saying that Walcott can run riot on the counter, and Santon won't be able to match his pace, on the counter.

I'm not arguing against that. If we play the same tactics, then I expect walcott would get lots of joy down the right. I just had an issue with him saying that santon has been "awful". His defending is ok (not great). But his attacking play has been awesome. He has been very close to goals and assists on a number of occasions, and has been our only creative outlet in a lot of games
