Luis Suarez helps himself to a brace to sweep aside QPR at Loftus Road, whilst Frank Lampard’s brace provides a reminder of his qualities as Chelsea grab the points at Goodison. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s conclusion to Gameweek 20…

On the Up

Luis Suarez
Oozing class, Suarez tormented the QPR back four, bewildering them with off the ball running, close control and dribbling. He also took his chances with aplomb, boosting his goal tally to 13 for the season, just one behind Robin Van Persie. The Uruguayan went into the Christmas period without a goal in four league starts but, having notched late on in the demolition of Fulham, Suarez filled his boots against the hapless R’s back four. He has suffered a price drop to 10.2 in the Fantasy Premier League but we’re likely to see investment boosted again, with home encounters with Sunderland and Norwich now beckoning.

Steven Gerrard
The Liverpool skipper goes on earning profit: today’s assist for Dan Agger’s header was his eighth of the campaign and means that Gerrard has now returned in six of his last seven league matches, with three goals and four assists in that spell. At 9.4 in the FPL and with just 5% ownership, Gerrard maybe second choice to Suarez in the Liverpool lineup but he’s become a viable option.

Steven Pienaar
With Maroune Fellaini absent, Pienaar has stepped up with two goals and an assist to fill the void. On the losing side today, Piennar nonetheless caught the eye but will inevitably fade into the background somewhat now that Fellaini is clear of his ban and back in contention for the trip to Newcastle.

Juan Mata
Ever the consistent playmaker, Mata again delivered for his owners with the assist for Lampard’s winner. Incredibly, Mata has now returned either a goal or assist in eleven of his last twelve Premier League starts – his only blank being the 0-0 draw with Man City. That kind of consistency will surely tempt investment with Gareth Bale sitting out Gameweek 21 through suspension. It’s QPR at home next, with the only real concern being Mata’s pitch time.

Frank Lampard
The Chelsea stalwart has started two of the last four league games and scored three goals. With his future at the club in doubt and his start far from secure, the former Fantasy favourite will inevitably play a cameo role and is unlikely to rival Juan Mata for our attention. Even so, if he can cement a run of starts, its clear he still has plenty to offer.

David Luiz
There was no clean sheet and Luiz picked up his sixth booking of the season, however, the Brazilian was again deployed in central midfield with Rafa Benitez opting to bench Mikel. With the Nigerian off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Luiz would seem more assured of retaining his midfield role, giving him every chance of adding some attacking returns to his clean sheet count.

Going Down

Leighton Baines
The Everton left-back suffered a 20,000 transfer deficit going into this weekend and, having been denied an assist by the woodwork, he’s likely to continue to decline as the Toffees again failed to keep a shutout. David Moyes’ side have now conceded in 15 consecutive league matches.

Petr Cech
Replaced at half-time, Rafa Benitez confirmed that Cech will have scans on “a strained adductor muscle at the top of his leg” in the next 24-hours. Cech looks a doubt for profitable home clash with QPR, then, which many would back as a clean sheet opportunity for Chelsea. Ross Turnbull replaced Cech at Goodison and will present a viable short-term option for Gameweek 21 at just 4.3 in the FPL.

Jose Enrique
The Spaniard pocketed the clean sheet but twanged a hamstring midway through the second half and will now surely be a doubt for the Anfield clash with Sunderland on Wednesday.

The QPR Defence
We’d had anticipated a turnaround, or at least signs that the R’s had tightened up as a result of Harry Redknapp’s arrival. On today’s evidence, however, QPR are a world away from having a back four that can provide the foundation for survival. They have now conceded in their last six outings and with Chelsea, Tottenham and City to come in the next four, even in the budget bracket, their defenders appear to offer little temptation at present.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would love some help if anybody has a minute in this hectic schedule

Original plan had been to move Sterling and Berbs out for Ruiz and Fellaini(-4) but Enrique's injury changes the picture and I would be forced to play Nelsen away to Chels if I don't move him along.
Tevez is also a thorn in the side but not sure whether to risk him not starting again

    Some options I'm considering:

    a) Enrique to Gibbs

    b) Enrique to Gibbs and Tevez to Ba/Podolski/Giroud (-4)

    c) Enrique to Gibbs + Berbs and Sterling to Ruiz and Fellaini (-8)

    d) Play Nelsen + Berbs and Sterling to Ruiz and Fellaini (-4)

Am holding Bale and hoping Michu will play.

Really tricky. Enrique should be the priority given his hamstring injury. Gibbs is a sensible replacement seeing as you have O'Brien.

I'm going to ride out Tevez's price drop tonight as I think he's almost certain to start at home to Stoke.

Sterling is looking lost at the minute. I'd consider getting Brunt in.... West Brom play Fulham, Reading and Villa in their next three.

Actually, scratch that. I can do Tevez & Benteke to Torres & Podolski for a 4pt hit. Looks great vs QPR and Southampton, respectively.

Can't really advise you to keep Tevez if I'm selling! 😉

Worth the extra in terms of the point hit (Torres is 9.8m, Suarez is 10.2m)?

Suarez is practically a one man team at the minute, but I think Liverpool are erratic and Sunderland shouldn't be a walkover. Liverpool can lack creativity. Having said that, Liverpool will welcome Norwich to Anfield after the Sunderland game, and we all know the damage Suarez did last time around...

Something niggles over the Torres pick. I'm picking him to cover my ML rivals rather than because I think he's a good pick (I'd rather have Hazard), and that's never a good sign.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Brunt instead of Sterling could be a very good call. Was set on going with big 5 mid as I think it's the way to go for now. I could always do that with wc. Have to bring in Gibbs I think. Tricky stuff but Tevez starting would be a gift right now

His price is the problem for me too, hence my desire for Sturridge to ruin him. I don't know who to go with as the 2nd striker. As much as I like Berba, Ruiz is a quality option for the 3rd striker spot and wouldn't want them both.

I'm considering Berba and Lambert and benching whoever between them and the Power Five that I think is least likely to get points that week.

My plan is to bring in a WBA or Swansea defender in for Lowton, possibly Billy Jones or Ashley Williams.

Also to sell Taarabt for a Southampton midfielder as I feel Southampton can score at least one v Arsenal. I am considering Ramirez, but can anyone confirm whether he was rested v Stoke with the Gunners game in mind, or is he carrying a knock?

Other midfielders worth considering around the 5.7mil mark? Noble, Puncheon, Nathan Dyer

Also would you chaps play Cuellar or Huth?

Had Michu since 6.5m ... worth cashing in and keeping Bale on the bench?

      GW 21 - Bale > Mata
      GW22 - Silva - Bale

...is exactly what i will be doing i think. Will only lose 0.2 on Bale and he'll drop at least once (probably twice imo) before i'll need to buy him back.

You think Mata is nailed on to start against QPR?

          Chelsea's next 4 games are:

Premier League - Chelsea V QPR Wed 2 Jan
FA Cup - Southampton V Chelsea Sat 5 Jan
League Cup - Chelsea V Swansea Wed 9 Jan
Premier League - Stoke V Chelsea Sat 12 Jan

He's surely a cert to sit out the cup game @ Southampton which makes me think he'll play on Wednesday night. I took him coming off in the 85th minute as a positive sign too 🙂

It depends on the strikers that appeal at the time. I'd like to go RVP and Ba with the Power Five, plus either Ruiz or that stinker Pog (depending on what I want in defence). The speculation around Ba makes this a problem.

Another option is RVP, Suarez and Pog upfront and let the defence suffer.

I prefer 3 strikers but sopmetimes go towards a 3-5-2 if there aren't many strikers firing/good fixtures.

At the moment, you've got a few mid-priced strikers going well/decent fixtures that can easily work as your 3rd

my plan is the latter of those 2 with someone like Pog rotting on the bench. It's the uncertainty around Ba that clouds everything as i doubt I'd be able to afford Suarez

I would likely be Fletcher for me if Ba goes unless someone else comes along in the windiw

If you get Suarez as your big 2nd striker, you could get Anichebe as your 3rd and play Suarez each week. Liverpool have tricky fixtures after this week and Suarez has a penchant for yellow cards which will land him in a 2 game ban before too long.

On the other hand, if you go with say, Berbs & Lambert as your other 2 strikers, you can always play the guy with the easier game each week. Also it gives you far more options, like allowing you to bench a mid in case of a bad fixture/injury/suspension etc.
