Strikes from Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor are not enough as the Baggies boing back to rescue a point in midlands derby clash. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A superb turn and an exocet shot that arrowed into Ben Foster’s net, handed Benteke his seventh goal of the season. The Belgian continues to be Paul Lambert’s key player and the sole Fantasy temptation in the Villa squad. With the Newcastle failing back four up next, Benteke’s chances of scoring back-to-back goals looks enticing.

Charles N’Zogbia
A former Fantasy favourite, at times in the first half, the former Latics winger sparkled and showed glimpses of talent that once made him a serious proposition. A brace of assists will immediately re-introduce him to the radar and, having made just his fourth start of the season, N’Zogbia he could yet emerge as a mid-price prospect in a Villa midfield that’s been bereft of Fantasy options.

Chris Brunt
Rather like the Norwich midfield assets, it appears that Brunt has been on a see-saw with James Morrsion as the main source of points for the Baggies in the middle of the park. A second goal in five games promotes Brunt’s stock this time around and arguably helps to oust Morrison as the primary target in Steve Clarke’s midfield.

Going Down

The West Brom Defence
With Gareth McAuley owned by over 8% of Fantasy Premier League managers and Ben Foster claiming over 6%, the Baggies rearguard goes on disappointing. Having started the season with three shut-outs in the opening five fixtures, Clarke’s side have gone six without defensive returns, conceding more than a single goal in their last four. It’s one clean sheet in 13 league outings, although McAuley’s assist for Odemwingie’s equaliser will sweeten that pill for tonight at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I did Clark-Davies. Didn't have to think about it much. Wildcards are especially advantageous for the drunk. Might do Sturridge-Chamakh later.

That was my plan for next gameweek - Suarez > Studge.

I'm just having a little wobble here because Suarez, for all his personality defects, is still twice the player that Studge is.

I have come into possession of a program that calculates the most efficient FPL team to date. It is 100% accurate at choosing 15 players with a given team value that would have returned the most points. It is interesting to see how is distributes the value across the different areas of the pitch. As it doesn't take into account our rotation plans, i told it to pick a 1343 formation and took out the values of cheap starters (Federici, Davies, Demel, Puncheon) assuming we will use them as back-up players only. It selected this team:

    Begovic
    Evra - Ivanovic - O'Brien
    Gerrard - Michu - Fellaini - Walters
Van Persie - Suarez - Ba

However, the stats it is using is a couple of gameweeks old. Does anyone have an excel spreadsheet that has live FPL stats embedded in? I need one that updates itself. I will then use this program as a base and incorporate rotation and other external factors including fixtures, form, transfers etc until i end up with a program that will mathematically give you the most optimal team based on my 'external factor' changes.

Side note: It is interesting to see the light midfield, and the two heavy defenders. And it clearly teaches us that picking the highest scoring forwards is a priority, regardless of price.

You need the full version of the spreadsheet, which I'll upload in a bit. I've uploaded the cut down version because Google docs doesn't seem to deal with macro-spreadsheets very well.

It's a case of run the macro embedded in the spreadsheet, and it will pull data from the stats pages of the FPL website and dump it into the spreadsheet. You can change the URL it points to depending on what particular stat you are interested in (and how good your macro skills are).

The RMT tool doesn't not take into account the optimal distribution of funds across the areas of the pitch. It judges each changes individually, rather than taking into account the overall effect that using those funds can do. This would be a tool for selecting a WC team, or a start of season team mainly anyway.

5 power mids ( Mata , Bale , Walcott , Fellaini , Michu) and 2 expensive and 1 budget striker (RVP , Suarez , POG)

    OR

thanks, gunna need it! looks like it's pod, bale sagna and o'brien (2nd game) vs gibbs and 17 points or somewhere around there (maybe more if michu or demel get bps). hoping i can make it a close one! 😀

feck! would be a lot closer if i'd played nasty and/or marveaux 🙁

Don't worry about the baps. Demel and Michu shouldn't get any. It would have been very nice if suarez could have got another one. I'm worried about not having bale tbh. It'll be a close one

Look at it the other way. In the games he has played 90 minutes he has performed well enough for Mancini not to have to try and change things and take him off early.

    bego (bunn)
    Gibbs, demel, davies (nelsen, clyne)

    Rvp, aguero, sturridge

I disagree for what it's worth, three decent defenders is a fair strategy as you can play them every week and your midfield and forwards are fine.

*assuming sturridge is the real deal...

Looking for feedback on a possible WC defence:

    De Gea - Bunn
    Cole - Zabaleta - Nelsen - Clyne - Demel

It let's me have a defender from every top 3 team, the big 5 in midfield and RVP, Ba and Sturridge in attack
